MÁV Zrt. Széchenyi-hegy Gyermekvasút: One of the railway traditions of the countries of the former Soviet bloc was the construction of "pioneer railways", small narrow gauge lines that were operated by children, who were part of the "Pioneer Movement" youth organizations related to the Communist Party.

The one in Budapest has a track gauge of 760 mm and a length of 11.2 km between the stations of Széchenyihegy (link with the rack-railway line 60) and Hűvösvölgy (link with several tram and bus lines). The line was put into service in three stages between July 31, 1948 and August 20, 1950.

Following the Hungarian transition from the communist single-party system to a parliamentary democracy, in 1990 the railway was transferred from the Pioneer Movement to the state-owned railway company MÁV.

Currently, the railway is operational between spring and autumn, with between seven and 13 trains per day in each direction. Occasionally a steam train and other heritage vehicles run. After a training program, all railway functions are carried out by girls and boys between 10 and 14 years, supervised by adults, except for driving the locomotives, carried out exclusively by adult railway personnel.

For regular service there are six diesel-hydraulic locomotives of the Mk45 type (numbers 2001 to 2006), built in Romania by the Augusztus 23. Művek factory in 1973. The fleet of passenger cars is made up of eight cars of the Bpu type (built in 1950), and eight open cars of the Cpu type (built in 1963), in addition to another 14 vehicles of several types.

Train 254, from Széchenyihegy to Hűvösvölgy, arrive at the Szépjuhászné station. It consists of the Mk45-2005 diesel locomotive, the salon car H-MÁV 55 55 24-50 203-9 Bu, a standard Bpu car and the 55 55 24-50 202-1 Bpu car.

Not very clear !! but it was late at night :)) just loved the petals as they started to curl up and looked so beautiful at night, compared to day, some flowers do I think...

Seen on a wet afternoon from under the cherry blossom, Lothian 9 was setting down/picking up passengers outside the former Debenhams store on Princes Street. The hybrid bus (new in 2013) was working route 1 from Clermiston to Seafield, which still incorporates sections of Edinburgh Corporation Tramways’ first regular post war motor bus service in 1920. The department store (at 109-112 Princes Street) closed in 2021 after forty years and most of the building is due to be converted to hotel use.

we must admit that our lives are all

that really belong to us...

For residents of Taquile island, off the coast of Puno in Peru, spinning, weaving and knitting yarn is extremely commonplace. In fact, it dates back thousands of years and it’s as important to everyday life as farming and cooking. The knitting is traditionally done by men, so everywhere you go on the island, you will see men knitting.

Their knitting is very intricate and detailed, and the clothing they produce tells a lot about whom a person is. Men knit themselves red hats if they are married and half red & half white hats if they are single. If a husband’s wife dies, he will wear a completely white hat. If a man was once the leader of the island, there will be a special pattern on his hat.

When a young couple is ready to get married, the man will knit the traditional red cap and will present it to the prospective father-in-law. The in-laws test the young man’s skill by filling the toque with water, and if the fluid drips through it he fails and must start again. If the threads are tight enough to contain the liquid, he gets the tick of approval and can marry the girl. The women, on the other hand, will weave a belt for men to wear, and offer it to them when they marry. They make it very colourful, with lots of patterns, and will also weave in a lock of hair inside the belt in order to stay close to their husbands, and remind them of their “matrimonial duties”. Each year the woman makes her husband a new belt, and each year it has a different symbol added to it. They do that to tell the family history, births, deaths, good harvests etc.

October saw the launch of Lothian new Electric fleet across Edinburgh. So far 6 vehicles have started with Lothian and are primarily for service 1 but can be seen on a range of Central single decker routes. Most days 3 to 4 of the vehicles can be seen operating together.

"Tricolored Heron with Moon at Dusk" by Patti Deters. A Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor) is seen perched in a tree at dusk framed by a full moon. The evening sky is a little cloudy and this coastal bird is settling in for the night. These wading birds are sometimes confused with Great Blue Herons or even cranes as they share similar body shape with the long legs, elongated necks, blue gray feathers, and general stork-like appearance. This single bird was found in Big Cypress National Preserve, near the Florida Everglades National Park, though many times you can see them in the coastal areas of the tropics. A close-up shot of Mary, an Asian elephant, at the San Diego Zoo in California.

Asian elephants can be differentiated from African elephants by their smaller ears and single-finger trunk ends. The San Diego Zoo houses a pair of both Asian and African elephants, and works with different organizations to protect them from being hunted for their tusks.
