European Political Community Summit Simulation for Moldovan Youth, 2023
On 26-27 May, 50 young people from various regions of Moldova took part in a simulation of the European Political Community Summit, organised by the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from Moldova. The event took place at the Moldovan Parliament in Chisinau.
The simulation took place on the eve of the summit of the European political community held near Chisinau on 1 June at the initiative of the EU. Forty-seven heads of state and government, as well as the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament were invited to the summit.
The simulation provided young participants with the opportunity to take on the role of European leaders representing their countries or institutions. Participants discussed a variety of topics, including peace, democracy, climate, energy, security and misinformation, and offered their vision of how to strengthen security and stability on the European continent.

First quarter. Visible high in the southern sky in early evening.
This marks the first time that accurate shadows at this level of detail are possible in such a computer simulation. The shadows are based on the global elevation map being developed from measurements by the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). LOLA has already taken more than 10 times as many elevation measurements as all previous missions combined.
The Moon always keeps the same face to us, but not exactly the same face. Because of the tilt and shape of its orbit, we see the Moon from slightly different angles over the course of a month. When a month is compressed into 12 seconds, as it is in this animation, our changing view of the Moon makes it look like it's wobbling. This wobble is called libration.
The word comes from the Latin for "balance scale" (as does the name of the zodiac constellation Libra) and refers to the way such a scale tips up and down on alternating sides. The sub-Earth point gives the amount of libration in longitude and latitude. The sub-Earth point is also the apparent center of the Moon's disk and the location on the Moon where the Earth is directly overhead.
The Moon is subject to other motions as well. It appears to roll back and forth around the sub-Earth point. The roll angle is given by the position angle of the axis, which is the angle of the Moon's north pole relative to celestial north. The Moon also approaches and recedes from us, appearing to grow and shrink. The two extremes, called perigee (near) and apogee (far), differ by more than 10%.
The most noticed monthly variation in the Moon's appearance is the cycle of phases, caused by the changing angle of the Sun as the Moon orbits the Earth. The cycle begins with the waxing (growing) crescent Moon visible in the west just after sunset. By first quarter, the Moon is high in the sky at sunset and sets around midnight. The full Moon rises at sunset and is high in the sky at midnight. The third quarter Moon is often surprisingly conspicuous in the daylit western sky long after sunrise.
Celestial north is up in these images, corresponding to the view from the northern hemisphere. The descriptions of the print resolution stills also assume a northern hemisphere orientation. To adjust for southern hemisphere views, rotate the images 180 degrees, and substitute "north" for "south" in the descriptions.

That really is me, by the way, (not a simulation!!!) discussing something with the gifted teacher of the wood craft group.(b.t.w. I'm the one in long trousers! )
NOTE: the painting which we appear to be discussing, (Papuan Dancers) wasn't actually there!
Having now a reasonably good photo of the space we will be using next March for the exhibition, I couldn't resist 'hanging' a few of the images we will be using in the Show, using the amazing VISUALISATION tools we have at our disposal these days. In particular Photoshop Elements combined with a digital camera.
Problem is, I've 'clean forgot' about breakfast, shower, tablets and the general discomfort of being 'perched' on my swivel chair - being so totally focused on this absorbing task for the past couple of hours!
But now, 'job done' I've suddenly realised how hungry I'm feeling.
My soul echoes the "I'M GLAD I DID ART!" exclamation of Tom Hudson our Director of Studies - in a moment of creative ecstasy while working on a public art commission using new Acrylic Resin processes in a collaboration with Terry Setch at Leicester College of Art & Design in 1963.
I was there in the room with them (it was a Saturday morning), and I think I learned much from that spontaneous, existential MOMENT. I trust I have been able to pass on something of that same unfeigned enthusiasm - I certainly still continue to experience it as strongly as I ever did as a younger person.

Heifer Virtual Village: Nepal is browser-based real-time 3D simulation where the player's character must navigate a virtual Nepalese environment, interact with other characters in the village, and correctly complete tasks associated with the game's goal. In this Serious Game For Change you find yourself in a the simulated village where a few are prosperous, but most struggle with hunger and poverty. The player is Esha, a young girl from a poor family. Your mother's dearest wish is to somehow acquire a goat. A goat would provide your family with milk and the means of making money, which would allow Esha to go to school. Acquiring micro-loans and building animal pens are some of the activities the player engages in while playing the game. By demonstrating some of these activities in an online virtual world, Heifer hopes that the spirit of goodwill that ripples through communities as animals are passed on, will also be spread to some degree digitally.
Bundestag Simulation, Kiev, Ukraine
Germany is the largest economy in the European Union and is often referred to as the engine of the EU, and therefore decisions made at the Bundestag level have a great impact on EU policy.
On the 5th of December, 2023 YEAs in Ukraine organised a simulation of the German Bundestag for students of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University.
Understanding the functioning of the Bundestag will help them to realise the importance of democracy at the parliamentary level of one country for EU policy.
