One of the strangest innovations from the 1890s. The chain and the drive system required was designed by Willian Spiers Simpson in 1895. The peaks of what appear to be triangular reinforcements served a specific purpose as described and shown in the illustrated insert at the left. The claim was that "his chain provided more power through greater leverage".

I loved trying these on but alas, when I returned to the store to purchase, they were gone. Too popular, I guess. (My Guess wedge heels in the background.)

Today we went to Ludwigsburg, a town not far away with the car, with a lovely castle and a wonderful garden and park. There is a pumpkin exhibition at the moment.
Heute sind wir nach Ludwigsburg gefahren, zum "BlüBa" = Blühenden Barock, so heissen die Garten-und Parkanlagen ums Schloss herum. Zur Zeit ist dort auch eine sehr schöne Kürbisausstellung.

So I certainly enjoyed the set, but there's two issues. First, it wasn't quite built right - there's another bedroom area right over the garage (and the garage in the set wasn't built well either, I'm afraid). Secondly, it was a little too big for my plan. I had 48 x 32 allotted for the house (and Flanders' house too) and the set house is exactly that wide, leaving no room for yard or anything else.

Simpsons Gap/Rungutjirpa is a water gap near Alice Springs in Tjoritja/West MacDonnell Ranges National Park, Northern Territory, Australia. Central Australia features hundreds of water gaps, geological features where a river cuts through a ridge or mountain range, and indicate catastrophic drainage of large volumes of water in ancient times.

To commemorate 11th November, here’s a photograph I took in Melbourne, Australia, of ‘The Man with the Donkey’ – a statue of a stretcher bearer with his donkey carrying a wounded comrade, to epitomise the courage and compassion of the Australian soldier.
In the First World War, many Anzac soldiers wounded at Gallipoli owed their life to the stretcher bearers, who braved enemy fire to rescue men from the front line and carry them to dressing stations on the beach.
The best known of the bearers was John Simpson Kirkpatrick, featured here, who commandeered a donkey to aid him as casualties grew and manpower was stretched to its limits. Simpson, as he was known, landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and was killed less than a month later.
The statue, designed by Wallace Anderson, is near the Shrine of Remembrance in the King’s Domain in Melbourne. Lest we forget.
