Another photo of High Point, Bradford, West Yorkshire. Built in 1972 for the Yorkshire Building Society. This brutalist building, which dominates the West Gate, Bradford skyline, stood empty for many years. It has now been redeveloped into apartments, as you can see from a plant in one of the windows.
Original architects: John Brunton Partnership.
A detail shot of the new V & A East Museum building in Stratford, East London.
I think that these three shots would work well as a triptych.
Architects: O'Donnell and Tuomey

"Throughout the ages, it has been the simple buildings that solve a problem that become the representative buildings of their time."
- William "Bill" Robb
This is the Fort Collins Savings and Loan Building, built in 1970. It is an example of one of Bill Robb’s “simple buildings” in Fort Collins, Colorado. I chose it for the We’re Here! theme today – Black and White Architecture.
It is also fitting topic 5/123, "Angles” for 123 pictures in 2023
I found an article about Bill Robb and learned he was the only architect in town when he set up shop in 1953, and it stayed that way for some years. Fort Collins was an agricultural town and quite conservative. The area never broadly embraced Googie, New Formalist, or Brutalist design, but its offices, residences, and churches reflect some profound local examples of Modern architecture. The key, defining examples of the movement for Fort Collins, largely Contemporary or Usonian in inspiration, in many cases, sprang from the desk of William Robb.

This is the Blue Fin Building. Completed 2007.

After sifting through and editing 600-odd images from Saturday night I'm all photo-ed out today!
For some reason Toby finds the name of this plant hilarious ;)
It was simplicity that was the goal of this shot. A rock, a cloud, and the ocean. "Less is more", they say when it comes to life. Until it was discovered that a very wealthy individual coined the phrase, attempting to convince the less fortunate to accept their lot in life.
However, this simple phrase is true in photography. eliminating clutter does remove distractions. This is what the phrase is meant to illustrate. These are the simple goals that any photographer desires.
Thanks for your visit and have a wonderful week my friends!

Detail shot of Pavilion House, Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
This handsome 1970s building replaced the much loved Pavilion Hotel, demolished in 1973.
I get the impression that Pavilion House has never been popular. It has been voted by the people of Scarborough as the town's ugliest building.
Plans have been put forward to remove the concrete facade and replace it with full height windows.
I understand that the building was designed by Robert Matthew, Johnson Marshall.

It isn't every day that my wife and I get to collaborate on a project. When my sister in Indiana and her (now) husband asked if we could help to arrange a simple beach wedding for them, we were all too happy to accommodate.
I sourced and built the archway and Dina came up with the idea for the flameless candles to fashion an approach to the archway.
I build things and Dina made them look pretty. :)
With only four of us, a friend handling photography and a wedding officiant, the bride and groom were happy with their simple sunset ceremony on the Gulf.
A square version of my previous photo.
Detail of the Torre Glòries residential building in the Poblenou district of Barcelona. It was originally known as Torre Agbar and it was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel in association with the Spanish firm 'b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos'. The builders were Dragados.

One of the things I most love about the Master Gardener organization is their focus on community education and support through the volunteer efforts of the member gardeners. In Northampton the MGs have three plots at the community gardens. All the vegetables we grow & harvest there are donated to the local Survival Center - which distributes the food to individuals and families in need.
Not massive amounts of food from just our three little plots, but it's all fresh, organic and tended with joy & love. So far we've harvested strawberries and lots of lettuce. And there's squash, peas, beans, onions and more lettuce are growing quickly!
Simple acts and gifts which are part of the "art" of being in a community and contributing to its well being. :)
