I’ve taken many pictures of this fresh water post, in Swanage bay, but I thought I’d try something a little different this time. I’ve seen many great minimalist images, usually taking advantage of snow or fog to create scenes that have cut out all the details, leaving the scene with just the basics, which are very effective. Without the aid of these conditions I’ve used a long exposure to smooth the water and sky, and darkened the sand in photoshop/silver efex. I’m not sure if I’ve achieved the simplicity I had in mind but it’s something I haven’t tried before-so I’m counting it as a win!

...this year we are keeping it simple around here for Christmas....
On Monday I brought the box (with boxes) of Christmas decorations up from the cellar and I have slowly begun to decorate...I only put 5 pieces so far:
~ the 3 dimensional plywood tree/ candle holder (from Habitat)
~ the handmade reindeer from salted dough (decorated with little details made with golden ink) I made last year during one of my Art&Crafts in English sessions with mighty, little students
~ two ...gigantic woolen socks, tied to the stairs up (not seen here - picture to come)
~ the pair of wooden ice skates which is hanging on one of the window handles seen here
~ and the two handmade angels from Munieca, purchased last year via Etsy (seen in comments)
This year I've decided to be decorating little by little, adding something every now and then until I feel that the outcome is ready. And while last year I created a winter Wonderland as among a few lovely others, wonderful Kirsten from Simply Grove had blogged about it , this year I have a need ofr basics, keeping it simple and an attitude for less is more.
This tiger was in pride of place at Zoo Miami. Such a beautiful animal.

How simple is simple enough?

My life is a simple one. It’s the life of an ordinary person.
This picture is a simple one. It’s just the picture of a lamp hanging from the ceiling.
The idea of taking this picture was simple. Use a camcorder as a camera. It would be almost like taking the pictures with a low resolution, small picture file, and inexpensive camera. Just like the way most of the photographers take their pictures.
And yet, simple can be beautiful – I believe.
That's exactly what the advert said and that's just how easy it was to take a picture of this, near enough static Meerkat.

There are many flashy, bright strobing holiday displays all over the Cape. They get bigger and flashier every year. Giant inflatable critters rock back and forth as the cold winter winds blow through Cape Cod towns. However, there's something to be said for the simple. Whether it be a single string of lights above a porch, or a lone tree anchored in the middle of a pond like this one in Sandwich. Sure, you can dazzle folks with your illumination extravaganza but the display that catches this night photographer's eye is what paints the picture of a simple New England holiday. At the end of a cold and windy shoot last week, I started my trip home and spotted this. I knew I had to shoot it so I found another place to park, geared back up, and made the icy walk down to the best spot I could find. I shot there for an hour as the clouds broke and a half moon started peeping though the back end of a retreating snow storm.
I am looking into stock photography so I am getting some practice in shooting different products. I didn't realise just how sculptural cutlery was until I started playing around with it in different light
I recently found 1000s of slides from circa 1962-1985. This snapshot makes me realize how much I miss and mourn the disappearance of Kodachrome. This is my firstborn Nathaniel with his cousins at the Skansen open-air museum and park in Stockholm, summer 1984. Shot with a simple Nikon EM with Nikon E-series 50mm/1.8 on Kodachrome 64. Through a slide projector or viewer, properly exposed, Kodachrome comes the closest to 3D as anything I've ever seen out of a 2D camera.
This is the first shot I've posted in a while that has very little post processing. I wanted to try and convey how great this area of the building looks during sunrise, but it really must be seen firsthand. The warm orange glow on the pillars mixed with the cool blue windowpanes is truly a great site to see. What can I say, I'm a simple man and I enjoy simple things.
