Genesis for the Rolls Royce brand, their first ever car to be built for the roads was the pioneering Rolls Royce 10hp.

The year is 1904, and only three years after the end of the Victorian era which derived its name from the reigning monarch of that period, the Rolls Royce marque entered the foundling new world of motorcar travel in the form of the Rolls Royce 10hp. This truly was genesis, a humdrum runabout of which only 16 were constructed between 1904 and 1906 in their Manchester works at Trafford Park. However, as you can probably tell the 10hp was lacking in some of the frills and privileges that its younger brothers entailed.

Today there are 4 frames still in existence, three of which are in museums and one owned privately.

The example presented was offered in 1956 to LL.AA.SS. by the traders of the Principality, as a wedding gift. This car remained in service at the Palace for a long time for official ceremonies.

Designed by J. P. Blatchley the Silver Cloud, was a major change from the pre-war models and the highly derivative Silver Dawn. As part of a range rationalisation the Bentley S1 is very similar, apart from its radiator grille.

The chassis was a simple steel box section, welded together and very rigid. Construction retained the traditional split between chassis and body, allowing the facility for specialised body builders though the overwhelmiing majhority came with the standard body by Pressed Steel employing light weight aluminium based alloy for the doors, bonnet and boot.

The engine was a 155 hp / 4000 rpm 4.9 L six-cylinder unit with inlet over exhaust valves: twin SU carburettors were added in September 1957. The standard transmission was a four-speed automatic. Brakes were hydraulic and assisted by the Rolls-Royce mechanical servo with 11 in drums and suspension was independent coils at the front and semi-elliptic springs at the rear. Twin brake master cylinders were incorporated from April 1956.

This Convertible was originally a left hand drive, Stainless Steel Saloon converted by Classic Restorations (Scotland) to a replica of the H J Mulliner design Drop Head Coupe. Mulliner converted around 200 DHC from 1957-64. In addition to the coachwork conversion, the upholstery of the car has been redesigned to provide space for the powered hood operating system and for the hood to rest in its lowered position. The front seats are altered to allow for them to be tilted forward for access to the rear and the interior woodwork is altered to fit the extended door and rear quarter panels.

Anyone know the make, model, year?

Historic Vehicle Meeting, Dorchester, Dorset. Sunday 19 December 2021.

Car Meet, Port Solent, Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, 2021/012/26.

In addition to purchasing the conventional Silver Cloud III, a selection of differing body types could be built to order by way of coachbuilders as this was the last Rolls Royce car for the mass-market to be produced with a separate chassis. One of the most notable ones was by Mulliner Park Ward of London, who gave us this very interesting variant known (back in the days before racial sensitivities) as the 'Chinese Eye' design, with slanted headlights to make it look a bit more lairy. To widen production in a diminishing market, this adaptation was made available for the Bentley S3 Continental as well as for the Silver Cloud III so, of the 328 coach-built Silver Cloud III, about 100 were of this style.

Silver Cloud in the river Thames

January 23, 2020 - After our morning landing in Orne Harbour we set sail for Dallmann Bay and the Melchior Islands for our last Zodiac Wildlife Cruise in Antarctica before sailing back to Ushuaia, Argentina. A huge storm was brewing and our captain wanted to get a head start in crossing the Drake Passage to beat out the storm.

In addition to purchasing the conventional Silver Cloud III, a selection of differing body types could be built to order by way of coachbuilders as this was the last Rolls Royce car for the mass-market to be produced with a separate chassis. Rai Pawpad bings his hands up between Conor's swinging his wrists in a classic sweep. He's grinning now, beaming actually. "No. " He dances back three steps."And I don't need grown-ups to hide behind."

Jaina Lefevre slows when she sees the other kids, then grins hugely and runs over. "CONOR! Where you been? I missed you!" She grins at him and looks over to Rai. "You ain't fightin, are ya? Hi Puddin."

Puddin steps back and nods to Rai just watching but if Conor got dirty or did anything to hurt Rai bad she'd be there to help."

Conor Nitely would spin slightly as his arms were deflected by Rai's sweep, ignoring both girls as he too, stepped backwards a few steps. Back to the boy now, he'd jut out his elbow in an attempt to hit the kid in the stomach, a somewhat maniacal gleam in his eyes now as he danced with him. "Then why you backin' up? Pussy."

Rai Pawpad woofs out a breath as Conor hits him in the stomach. He leans over, trying to get his air back , but oddly pleased, Now he can hit the kid. He looks up at Conor, meeting his eyes, then slams forward , his shoulder aimed at Conor's stomach.

Jaina Lefevre sighs as she sees what's going on. "Stop it. Youse is supposed to be friends! Kids help kids, 'member?" She tries to get in between them, pushing at them both to try and break it up.

Puddin looks at Jaina and sighs, "Conor's was mean says Rai prince of trash..."

Conor Nitely takes the shoulder, full force in the stomach. There's an audible grunt on impact as his face goes red for a moment. A couple beats as he catches his breath, quickly sidestepping around Jaina to get a better shot at Rai. He ignores her pleas for them to stop, an ugly smirk twisting the corners of his mouth up as he begins to laugh. Almost as if he were begining to enjoy the pain for some reason. He's no pugilist, this kid, even as his fist shoots out to try to smack Rai in the mouth he forgets to cover himself, leaving his own face exposed.

Rai Pawpad: The fist that connects with his jaw makes him blink, he tastes blood, and that's fine, he's feeling really good now. He grabs the other kids' shirt with his left hand, and aims a fist at his face.

Muggles walks to the group suspious of Conor being there," Hey!" Muggles scrambles for his slingshot

Jaina Lefevre tries to get in between them again, grabbing at shirts if she possibly manages it. She's getting pissed. "I SAID STOP IT!" she shouts. "STOP IT!" Her face is getting red and she hisses. "Is THIS how you ask him t'join up?"

Conor Nitely is caught off guard as Rai grabs his shirt, the surge of adrenalin as his fist made contact leaving him too excited to remember to defend himself for a brief moment. He's pulled forward easily, not the heaviest of kids to begin with. The maniacal look in his eyes is temporarily replaced with a bit of shock as Rai's fist slams into his eye. He's all but blinded now, stars in one eye, unruly hair covering the other. Despite the searing pain splicing through his brain he continues to laugh, licking his lips slightly as he vaults forward in an attempt to sidestep Jaina again and headbutt Rai.

Muggles gets closer discarding his slingshot by his side and grabs for Conor, also trying to break up the fight. " I new we should have softened him up a bit" he says thru clenced teeth dodging wild throws and grabs from the circle," Stooooooop"

Rai Pawpad hears and feels the satisfactoy crrunch of his fist hitting home. That's usually it. He's taken completely off guard when the little maniac slams his head into Rai's skull. Rai falls back, staggering a little, his claws out , he swipes drunkenly in Conor's eneral direction.

Muggles Yanks at Conor's shirt more," Rai.. stop if he doesn't join up we can BOTH beat on him!! Conor!! We got business to talk about!" Muggles dodges a wild swing from Rai

Jaina Lefevre is jerked off balance between Conor's headbutt and Muggles' tug on Conor and her arm flails out, grabbing towards Rai when he swipes. She screams, one of the claws raking her arm just barely enough to draw blood. "OWWW!" she screeches and drops to the ground, hugging her arm.

Portia Kass couldn't help but notice the horrible commotion going on between the kids in the distance and quickly hurried over. As she neared, she noticed a few familiar faces and she quickly paired the scream with Jaina who had seemed to go down somewhere in the middle. Her face was a mixture of concern and anger, her cheeks flushed bright red as she ran right over, dropping her purse to the grass so as to have both hands free. One hand would grab for Conor's shoulder, the other for the little black-haired boy and she would attempt to push the two apart, away from the fallen Jaina while shouting, "HEY, HEY, HEY! THAT"S ENOUGH!" in a loud, threatening tone that none of the kids had likely ever heard her use.

River Grau walks over, hearing Muggles. His ears perk while eyes narrow on the boy. "Get away from Conor.' he hisses out. Eyes then flick to Jaina and then to Rai, he would try to squeeze between them after the girl falls to the ground. “Your group is stupid. I don't wanna be in your stupid group no more and stop beatin' on Conor, you snot faces. I'll hurt you again!” He had no idea what was going on and was just trying to get in the way of it all in hopes it stopped.

Conor Nitely is pulled back from Rai by four things now, Muggles' hand on his shirt, the sound of Portia's shout, Jaina's scream and River coming to his defense. It's the last one that gives him pause, almost distracting him enough to stop. Almost. His mind takes a few seconds to work through Muggles' words, eerie laugh ending abruptly as he interalizes them. He's try to wheel around then, grabbing widly for Muggles in a half scratch half-slapping motion. "DON'T SAY MY NAME!"

Rai Pawpad scrabbles out from under Conor, and the big woman pulling at him. He's heard Jaina scream, and he crawls around to grab her under her arms, pulling her up the hiill and away. "Stupid! got to stay away from this stuff, Princess."

Muggles distracted by River's appearance doesn't notice the adult gard his coller form the back and pull, he steps back almost off his feet and yells," Im trying ta break it up lady!!! " Yelling toward the fight desperatly ," River you better not get in it or Im gonna make you SOOOOOO sorry" Muggles is almost lifted from the fightby Portia in the air kicking and screaming

Jaina Lefevre is dragged up the hill a few feet and keeps hugging her arm close - squeezing it so it bleeds a little bit more than the simple scratch would have on it's own. Yeah...use whatever you've got to make them stop. Guess some girls learn early. She looks up at Rai and then at the others and sniffs. "You fighted with him. Whyyy? Supposed to ask him to join, not fight!"

Portia Kass was exerting most of her upper body strength to try and keep Conor from launching himself at the boy in the hat. Everyone else seemed to have stopped for the moment. Of course, the boy had said Conor's name... that was a HUGE no-no, and of course.. Conor was insensed. Portia's hand let go of that boy's collar, hopefully pushing him back and away from Conor at the same time. She would then turn to try and hold Conor off with both of her hands on the boy's shoulders.

River Grau 's expression turns dark. He was not in the mood at all. “Try it, and I'll cut yah. You really wanna threaten me? You ain't think I can mess yah up?” He swiveled his neck, using his head to motion towards Rai to remind Muggles what he could do. Ears flattening against his head, he glared as he heard Rai and watched Jaina. Looking back to Conor, he tried to ignore them. The only two of the group he cared about were safe and that was all that mattered.

Conor Nitely continued to try to launch himself at the boy while he shouted. "YOU LEAVE RIVER ALONE. MY FRIEND. NOT YOURS. GARBAGE KID. GARBAGE PRINCE AND HIS GARBAGE FRIENDS." Fists swung wildly for a moment until Portia turned to face him, sense seeming to snap back into his slightly glazed over eyes. He stilled then. Stopped fighting. Stopped moving completely. Eerily quiet now as he said nothing.

Rai Pawpad turns to Jaina, his expression grim. "He's not one of us. He's a footsucker. See? He's got one to come rescue him right away. He's one of them."

Muggles stops swingin now that he's released and watches the lady try to stop and rabid Conor scrambling to Rai side and hears River," Im not afraid of you ... Why don't ya have that mask on .. Its ur face thats the scariest anyway!" He meets Rivers eyes and smiles speaking very slowly and loudly," CO-NOR!!!'

Jaina Lefevre was actually a little scared of Conor's explosion and she hisses. "He's MY friend unless he don't wanna be no more. Miss Portia is my friend too. She helpeded me when I was sick." She looks up at Rai and then at the others and slowly gets to her feet. Blood smears up her arm and all over her other hand as she holds it out, palm first. "See this? This is 'cause you fight. You all says you my friends, but you is mean to each others and I got hurted. Bloody hurted. Tha's not what we talked about." She looks over to Conor. "You is like my big brother friend and you was fightin with peoples I care about. I want you in our group with River'n me and Rai and Kimi and I wanna ask Caty and Phoebe but I ain't seen them. We gotta stick together. But not like this. You works it out, all of youse. I'm not talkin' to any of you until you do."

Kimani Silvercloud looks around seeing wh else is around and she spots Jae on the roof she waves if he is looking and moves closer to him not wanting to be in the drama

Portia Kass kept her hands on Conor's shoulders just in case he decided he wasn't finished. She was more than a little jarred at the way he just stopped moving and stopped talking after the huge blow up he'd just had. She looked carefully at the boy's face, noting where his eye was bright red and specks of purple had already begun to blossom there. Her hands gripped onto his shoulders again as she heard the boy shouting Conor's name and she would attempt to keep him from launching himself at the boy anew, trying to make eye contact and give him a steady, calming look, as though trying to reassure him silently that it would all be all right. She glanced over at Jaina then, watching the girl as she made her way over. She listened as the girl spoke, eyeing the wound carefully. She would say nothing in regards to what Jaina had said, she didn't need to know why the fight started, she needed to get the injured ones - Conor and Jaina as far as she could see - taken care of. She'd hold one hand out to Jaina, "We need to...

Portia Kass ...go get you cleaned up." Her voice was calm but with the weight of how important it was evident. She looked back to Conor and added, "You too."

Angel Damone makes a face seeing the kindergarden class has let out late tonight. She wrinkles up her nose a bit and steps back. They're more scary than monsters.

River Grau 's eyes widened in surprise at Conor's words. He even smiled slightly before hearing the words to his right. Visibly upset, he tried to ignore them. Ignore everything and not fight.. But then the boy in front of him had to open his stupid mouth. Eyes narrowing, he calmed slightly when hearing Jaina's words. “You don't believe me, that the group is turnin' bad 'cause of them.” He motioned to Rai and Muggles. “They stay, I leave. Stupid Grabage kids. Make more fighting. Groups 'bout to STOP fights. They keep doin' it. And I'm bein' good and *not* fighting. Being good and getting in trouble, they being bad and not. Stupid group. I hate it.” He frowned a tthe blood on Jaia's hand and would try to gently grab her wrist. If so, he would try tug it to whipe it off using the bottom of his shirt.

Jaerik Draken returned the wave towards Kimani and tilted his head, pointing to the ledge and urging her to come up if she wanted.

Rai Pawpad wipes the back of his hand over his mouth and glances at it, the bloody trail.on the back of his fingers, "Yeah, Princess. Okay. We're okay with anyone we're takin care of." He scowls. "Even River. Conor's not in the group. And he's been an assb...creep since I met him."

Muggles sets his jaw looking at Rai seeing how hurt he was he snaps his head around yelling," I was tryignto stop the fight you duMMY!! aND YOU CALL ME A GARBAGE KID AGAIN AND i SWEAR YOU'LL BE SOOOOOOO SORRY!! Jaina right we shouLd not fight but ...but... Rai my friend and nobody's gonna beat on him NOBODY!!"

Conor Nitely didn't launch himself at Muggles again, either not hearing the boy call his name or choosing to ignore it for now. He continued to stay stock still, dull gaze meeting but not focusing on the pair of blue eyes in front of him. He seemed to pale slightly as Jaina spoke. Not so much because he was chatised, but something else she'd mentioned putting a bit of fear in his otherwise lifeless eyes. He didn't move for a long time, only a couple blinks as he stood frozen. River's words made him nod just slightly, voice flat as he finally replied to Portia. "Time to get cleaned up. River comes too." The taunts of the other boys were ignored as he turned towards the taxi station, skinny legs pulling up in a ess than enthusiatic march.

Angel Damone turns and skips off, anything but kids! She skips off, happily oblivious and heavily set on her patch to keep that from ever happening to her. She shudders. "ain't they supposed to be in bed, like.. sleeping and shit?"

Jaina Lefevre jerks her hand away from River, glaring at him, then turning to glare at Rai. "Not talking. You both swore an oaf. Fix it." She takes a step closer to Portia. "I can wash up at home, Miss Portia, but thank youse."

Rai Pawpad crosses his arms on his chest. "What's to fix? He doen't want to sociate with Garbage kids. I think that's clear enough."

Jaerik Draken slipped the visor up and looked over towards Kimani, his bright eyes flashing as he murmered a small hello.

Kimani Silvercloud would say the same word back guessin it meant hi, or hello, but she messes up the proununciation a bit "Vindwee"

Clyde Gemini sees Conor *ignore* him and almost yels his name again but stops .. He had plenty of time to torture that snot , River too. He looks to his friend Rai and asks<" You ok Rai... You wanna go get that looked at?" Motions to his wounds.

River Grau frowned, “We help all kids, not fight. If fight, if not take care of all, I leave. Stupid group. Stupid kids that think you are all better. Not -my- friends. Try and do something 'cause I ain't part of the group no more. Try it.” He shot a glare to Muggles, stating apathetically. “Garbage boy.” As Jaina jerked her arm away, he clenched his fist. “You're just as bad as them. Garbage girl. You stay with them, I go with my friend. You try and sound sweet, but yah just try and get people to do what you want. You cry and scream when they don't.” He moved to leave with Conor.

Jaerik Draken let out a soft laugh, shuffling over to the side and making more room for her as he peered down below curiously at the crowd of children, paying attention to one in particular, the one that was following Portia. Looking off to the side a moment in thought.

Portia Kass shot the little boy who swore the dirtiest of looks. Not only did he seem to be the one instigating... but he just didn't know when to quit. She noticed that the boy's lip was bleeding but the renewed shouting of his counterpart made Portia ignore the pair altogether. She'd seen them once before and they had seemed like horrible little troublemakers then, and this only cemented that idea in her mind. Her hand slipped from Conor's shoulder as he started off and she sighed with relief that at least he was big enough to let it go for the moment. Her attention turned to Jaina next and she nodded at the little girl. "Go home and get cleaned up then, ok? Go straight home," she instructed. Her words were firm but they weren't without concern for her. She'd then bend down to scoop her discarded purse back up and turn after Conor's retreating back, long legs catching up with his shorter ones in a few strides. "River..." she began but the boy was already caught up to the both of them. She sighed a little at his words but she wouldn't address it now. Wounds first. Damage control later.

Jaina Lefevre watches River, her eyes going dark. If he had hit her, it would've hurt less. She just looks down and starts to walk home, not letting anyone see the tears if she can help it.

Rai Pawpad rubs his head, the worst thing being the point where Conor's hit him. "Nah, I'm okay. Bang on the head's all."

Artika Muliaina pauses, her eyes following Jaina for a moment, and then walks on, into the city.

Muggles loads his slingshot and takes aim at River .... Again decides that he should probably get rai alone and plan from there. Loos to Jaina," So you with us or them Jaina?"

Kimani Silvercloud scoots closer to Jae "they're all my friends, but I don' like fights, an' I don' wanna get more hurt" she says also watching them wanting to explain for their behavior somehow

Jaerik Draken discreetly points down towards the Jaina girl, looking towards Kima and chirping.

Jaerik Draken: Vel'uss zhah il?

Jaina Lefevre doesn't hear Mugs over the roaring in her ears. Stupid boys and their stupid fights and their mean words. She looks at the blood on her hand and wipes it on her jeans, walking on.

Conor Nitely continued to march towards the taxi stand, one blackened eyes squinting as he stomped loudly. He didn't check to make sure River and Portia were following, not even bothering now as he soldiered on. There was one last gesture though, aimed in the general direction of the two boys in the park. A skinny arm raised, hand curled into a fist save for one lone, raised middle finger.

Kimani Silvercloud "yeah she's my firend, I know her" she says hoping to be guessing what he said

River Grau didn't look back. Hands still in little fists clenched at his sides, he grumbled incoherently to himself in anger. He moved towards the Taxi Station with Conor, matching his speed as he did so.

Jaerik Draken perked slightly turning on his knee towards Kima and leaning in close, whispering as if he wanted to know more. He needed to figure out why that girl was in a cell at Ashagi Labs not two days previous.

Facing increasing competition from faster rivals and with development of its ageing six-cylinder engine nearing its end, Rolls-Royce turned to V8 power as the 1960s approached. Introduced in the autumn of 1959, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II and Bentley S2 appeared externally unchanged from their 'Cloud and S-Type predecessors, though the duo's performance was considerably enhanced by the new 6,230cc aluminium-alloy V8 engine. Although wider and shorter than the 'six' it replaced, the new power unit fitted relatively easily within the engine bay, relocation of the steering box from inside to outside of the chassis frame being the most obvious alteration to the previous arrangements. Externally the new models appeared virtually unchanged, while beneath the skin Rolls-Royce's own four-speed automatic transmission was now the only one on offer and power steering was standardised. Immensely successful both at home and abroad, the Silver Cloud II and Bentley S2 remained in production until the autumn of 1962.

As well as the factory-bodied cars, bespoke creations from coachbuilders James Young and the now merged firm of H J Mulliner, Park Ward Ltd (now Rolls-Royce-owned) continued to be available on the 'Cloud II chassis for those discerning enthusiasts wealthy enough to afford them. Indeed, as the factory did not offer a convertible or drophead coupé, a coachbuilt car was the only option if one's preference was Rolls-Royce-style fresh air motoring. Available in both Rolls-Royce and Bentley forms, H J Mulliner's two-door drophead coupé (Design No. 7504) was by far the most popular. Hand crafted style such as this attracted a hefty premium though, H J Mulliner's convertible being priced some 30% above the standard Silver Cloud II four-door saloon, which was already one of the world's most expensive cars. Out of a total of 2,417 Silver Cloud IIs built from September 1959 until August 1962, only 107 had the stylish and desirable drophead coupé body built by H J Mulliner, of which 74 were left-hand drive cars like this example.

Dating from the final year of production, this H J Mulliner-bodied Silver Cloud II drophead, chassis number 'LSAE89', was built to North American specification for Mr George L Jyurovat of Peninsula, Ohio, reputedly a NASA engineer. Special features specified included Sundym glass, electric windows, electric aerial, and a split bench front seat, while mirrors to both front wings were fitted in the USA by Rolls-Royce Inc. Mr Jyurovat kept the Rolls-Royce until his death. In June 1989 the car was sold from his estate, passing to Richard Gorman of Vantage Motorworks in North Miami, Florida.

When auctioneer Thomas Barrett bought the Rolls-Royce from Richard Gorman soon afterwards, it had covered only 20,982 miles from new. Although accompanying paperwork records the sale from Gorman to Barrett, a letter on file dated 15th June 1989 suggests that Gorman sold the car to Mr Charles Crail of Carpenteria, CA. Subsequently the Rolls-Royce passed to the late Don Williams, the highly respected American dealer/collector, Pebble Beach exhibitor and co-founder of the world renowned Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California where the car remained until 2011. It was then purchased by Maastricht-based Bugatti collector Jack Braam Ruben, who sold it on to a Belgian collector. Little used throughout its life, this remarkable Silver Cloud II has covered only 22,430 miles from new over the course of the last 60-plus years.

Offered fresh from extensive recommissioning by Automobile Saey of Beauvechain, this rare and exclusive coachbuilt Rolls-Royce drophead comes with their invoice for €10,408; copies of original factory paperwork; old bills of sale; assorted correspondence; Belgian registration papers; and a current technical inspection.
