Looking across to Hart Fell from Erie Hill in the Scottish Borders. The light put on a bit of show for me up here...it was the classic scottish grey skies until Mr.Sunshine barged through. The two of them had a bit of a tussle. It was beautiful sight, Mr.Dull won the day eventually.
1961 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud
History of the 1959-1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud
The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II was introduced in October 1959, and was the first Rolls-Royce model to exceed Bentley in production numbers, with 2,716 built between 1959 and 1962; 299 of these rode the long wheelbase chassis. The car was also the first to utilize Rolls-Royce’s aluminum, 6.2-liter, 230-hp V-8 engine which had been in the planning stages since 1947. The introduction was so significant that the engine itself was displayed with the new Rolls-Royces at the London Motor Show.
The Motor published an extensive road test of the new Silver Cloud II, with the subhead, “Effortless speed and extreme quietness with a new V-8 engine.” In September 1960, Road & Track reported, “it is a pleasure to report that there is still a company in business dedicated to the task of producing the best car in the world, regardless of cost.”
The Silver Cloud’s new V-8 engine replaced the venerable straight-six, which was originally introduced in 1907 and fitted to the Silver Ghost. The new V-8 provided about 30 percent more horsepower and cruising speed was increased by raising the rear axle ratio. Fuel consumption dropped from 16 mpg on the six-cylinder cars, to about 10 mpg on the new V-8. Chassis lubrication intervals were increased to 10,000 miles as the former one-shot “Bijur” pedal pump system was replaced by 21 grease gun fittings.
The Silver Cloud III series was the last of the popular Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud series. The Silver Cloud I and II (and Bentley S1 and S2) from 1955 to 1961, shared the same standard body, but when the SCIII was introduced in 1962, contemporary trends modified the design. Most obvious were four headlights, a lower hood and radiator shell, and smaller bumpers. The interior was less pre-WWII in design, with a new padded rail above the dash, separate front seats (which was formerly a single bench seat) and more leg room front and back.
The V-8 continued in the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III launch, with a higher 9:1 compression ratio, and two-inch carburetors. This resulted in 246 hp, a 0-60 time of 10.8 seconds, and a top speed of 115 mph. Mainly courtesy of these performance enhancements and the more spacious interior, the Silver Cloud III is often regarded as the finest model of the series.
Rolls-Royce produced 2,044 SCIIIs, plus 253 with the long wheelbase chassis. By 1965 Rolls-Royce could still build the Cloud chassis and engine, but could no longer obtain the standard steel bodies, as the Silver Shadow was taking over the production lines. When early Shadow production was delayed, Rolls-Royce created a new series of coachbuilt cars on Cloud chassis.
By 1966, Rolls-Royce had merged its two coachbuilding acquisitions, Park Ward and HJ Mulliner, into one. The successful mid-1950s Mulliner Park Ward fixed head coupe was re-designed into a drophead coupe, and became an instant hit. Production continued with this new car until March 1966, well after the Cloud series officially ceased production in 1965.
The Silver Cloud models signaled the end of the coachbuilt period, as Rolls-Royce found it could sell 10 times as many cars with “standard steel bodies.” Custom Rolls-Royces were occasionally built after 1970, but by then the company had predominantly taken the path it is following today. These coachbuilt Silver Clouds are extremely desirable today as a result.
Rolls-Royce records are remarkably complete and any purchase should have full history and service records on file. Also make sure to have qualified mechanic lined up to maintain any Rolls-Royce purchase. Once everything is in order, a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud rewards the owner with the height of luxury from its era. It also stands up as a competent and capable car by today’s standards, only it does so with an elegance that is unique to its day.

This a particularly notable version of the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III fixed head coupe, the so-called "Chinese Eyes". The car was built in 1964.
I took this capture at the "Retro Classics Meets Barock", a classic car show at Ludwigsburg.
tempestual Parkin dips into a slight bow "yes, the pink one is the only one i needed....the other, the other will be of use to us i think, but she will eb dumped. Thank you Dr Nightfire for your assistance. Mr Wylder, i would require one more favour from you if you please. In a while.....the unneccessary captive will need to be dumped. But, perhaps we can use her to our advantage. Make herself and others think she is this pink one....*checks the pda she'd taken* this 'bailey'." A playful grin, such contrast to her usual professional manner is flashed at alex, showing the item in her hands "hmmmm.......much experience with hair dye alex?"
Kia Silvers (Kimani Silvercloud) seeing no one upstairs she deduces that all the action was bellow. she would head down to see if there was anything she could help with, or fetch or just generally do, since that's what she was here for
Lithia Nightfire glances back again to the cells before nodding to Temp. Seeing as things were going well, she headed for the elevator, saying little more to change out of her armor.
Alejandro Wylder colects the items and places them into plastic bags, each labled. Looking up toward Temp he could see she was in 'that' mood again. That creepy I am going to really have fun with this mood. "I am suprised you didn't notice on my resume that I had hairstylist experience in my time with the UAC." he wuld say with a joking girn, looking back down toward the bags he places them to the side to be used when the soon to be dazzyed up Bailey is released. "But yes, I suppose I can do what you are thinking. Maybe the lab assisstant can help." he says with a smirk toward Kia. She would most likely know more about hair dye then him at least.
Snuffy (Jesara Blackheart) was growling at all the fuss outside her cell, flaring her spines repeatedly.
Kia Silvers (Kimani Silvercloud) smirks "what's this about hair dye?" she would ask calmly looking at her streaked green locks then back at Alex "what gives you the idea that I would know what I was doing" It couldnt be the hair.. nah.. maybe he was a stalker... she grins again at her own joke taking a step forward "who, what and how much hair are we talking about?" she hadn't done her own in a while, but was acctually had been thinking about changing her own do' since well a change of pace is always fun
tempestual Parkin grins, indeed she was in that mood....usually entailed a lot of teasing directed alex's way too. ""yes, but well its been so many years since you styled hair....do you still have 'it'. And if you could , i would be very grateful. Dump the gal with the pink one's personal things, dose her on the potent hallucinogen so she has no idea who she is, let alone who we are, and you have one replacement. Until, at least, we release the real one back out. Memories should start to come back to the subject within about three days, but highly unlikely she will remember anything jsut ebfore being dosed. I have to prepare the chamicals for gene isolation....its that pink skin tone that interests me.....its unnatural, which means there needs to be an explanation.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud is a luxury automobile produced by Rolls-Royce Limited from April 1955 to March 1966 replacing the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn in the Rolls Royce line up.. It was the core model of the Rolls-Royce range during that period. Designed by J. P. Blatchley the design represented a major change over the Silver Dawn, with the rationalisation of the Rolls - Bentley models its Bentley sister car was the Bentley S1. The first Silver Clouds were powered by a 4.9 litre (300 cu in)S6 engine mated to a 4 speed GM Hydramatic automatic transmission.
The Silver Cloud was updated as the Silver Cloud IIin 1959. Externally the cars are very similar but were now powered by a 6230cc (380 cu in) V8 engine, a first for Rolls Royce, which pushed the weight to 2.11 tonnes. Performance was greatly improved and top speed was raised to 115mph. The basic architecture of the Silver Cloud II did not change between 1959 and 1963, but rolling on going improvements included changes to the vetilation system A remodelled rear light assembly was introduced in May 1962 and a change to single sealed-beam headlamps was made in August 1962
The Silver Cloud II was superceeded by a Silver Cloud III for model years 1963-66
