I was out cutting down a dead tree for firewood on my land with my snowmobile and chain-saw when I noticed this owl, once I got home with the wood I came back with my camera and found him in the same spot. He didn't mind the noise of my skidoo at all when I pulled up so I stayed for about an hour in the middle of my field sitting and waiting for it to hunt. It was an hour well spent. The great grey only captured one mouse. I think it was due to the snow being so hard packed. Photo below (hand held)

This image compresses a landing into a single visual moment, allowing motion, contact, and resistance to coexist within the same frame. Rather than freezing the act, the retained blur becomes a trace of velocity—a reminder that movement does not disappear simply because it is interrupted.
Like a staccato note in a score, the landing is brief, detached, and emphatic: a precise instant where air yields to ice, and momentum resolves into stillness.
They are quite melodious when they sing, hence their Latin name, but this on was quiet during the sequence I shot.

The Silent Valley Reservoir is located in the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel. It supplies most of the water for County Down and large parts of County Armagh Greater Belfast. It was built between 1923 and 1933 by a workforce of over 1,000 men, nine of whom died during construction. It is around 3 kilometres long.

Bull moose have a variety of vocalizations. According to various sources, they bellow, roar, moan, croak and grunt. I've heard the moans, croaks and grunts many times but, in all my years observing moose, I've never heard a bull roar or bellow...despite both of those sounds carrying long distances. Bulls bellow to call for a cow moose to mate with. The roar is used to threaten other bulls.
This bull looks like he may be roaring or bellowing...but he wasn't making a sound. We found him in Roosevelt National Forest, Colorado.

One Northern Harrier, scans the high grass and waters in the salty marshes in Oyster Creek, NJ. I was pretty lucky for an incredible and rare sight.

Sometimes the sunlight will sneak in through a canyon opening and illuminate a few large rocks here and there. Creating specs of glowing moss covered rocks, leaving others hidden in the silent shadows.
