The Silent Valley Reservoir is a reservoir located in the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel, County Down in Northern Ireland. It supplies most of the water for County Down, surrounding counties and most of Belfast
A medieval strongpoint on the Bohemian-Austrian border, first mentioned in 1360. It is a part of the village Tichá, a name which literally means "silent". The fort was always sold together with the village, and served as an administrative center. The village was burned down in 1486, but the fort was not damaged, and is mentioned in 1541 as being in good shape. It was damaged by fires in later times, the last being in 1789, a brewery later stood around the tower, but all the infrastructure and houses vanished in the 20th Century, and stone was carved out of the tower. The border area became inaccesible after 1948, and the husk of the tower stood as a ruin for many decades. A local conservationist society began archeological research and restoration in 2009, in which the original floor plan was uncovered, the tower got a roof and was restored with period accurate interiors. The fort stands at a pond, which fed a moat which is still well visible, and the restoration still continues.
Aprovechando la niebla que había anoche pude tirar esta foto antes de quedarme sin baterías.

I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend at up in the Hurulu Eco Park near Habarana in Sri Lankas north east, right in the middle of elephant territory , way out of touch with everyday urban life.
Being in such an open environment without any doors or windows, waking up to the sounds of too many bird species to count and the knowledge that any moment an elephant may come around the corner was at once both soothing and exciting.
Our lodging for the weekend sat in the middle of a big, long rock which dipped in the middle and climbed up about 30-40 feet above the land around it at either end. On the first day itself we climbed to the more distant peak and sat on the lookout for elephants in the wide open grasslands around us.
It didn't take long for one to show up. It slowly came towards the rock on which we sat, at times pausing to direct its big ears at us whenever we made a noise. After a while it turned and started to walk alongside the rock and then away from us. For an animal so big and not coloured particularly well for camouflague amongst the grass, you would really need to be looking for one to notice one, even if it was only a few meters away from you.
Apart from the noise of it occasionally thrashing some grass or a branch around, or the rare step on something loud, the elephant was near silent. Despite seeming a slow mover, a brief distraction could result in the elephant having moved quite far from you.
If you were able to look parallel to the direction that the elephant was travelling though, you would see the trampled path it's left behind, and at the end of it - if you are lucky - the elephant itself, moving on after your presence has simply bored him/her.
How can anyone not love elephants?

We stalked some silent deer on the first of January this year in a coastal forest called 'Oranjezon' near Oostkapelle, Holland. It was so exciting to be able to zoom in on these magnificent creatures. Red deer (Elk, Cervus elaphus, Edelhert) mother and a year old calf, sizing me up and then vanishing without a sound. In the fall we witnessed the bugling of the bulls, but this day we got closer than ever before. A big treat it was!
We are trespassing big time for this part of the forest is closed tot the public. Foske is on a tight leash and trembling while she sniffs them out. Not a sound though. Nico and I communicate with hand signals while stalking and moving upwind of the wildlife. If caught by a ranger, I gladly pay the fine explaining that this beats a day at a gamepark anytime. Most of the times they comprehend very well. Most of the the times that is.

This isn't really photography work, just a picture of myself in my Halloween costume. I love Silent Hill. Give me some ideas on what to do this Halloween!
A Silent Lunch took place in the cafeteria where everyone couldn't speak and they were all provided ear plugs so they couldn't hear as well.

A bit from the website
"Once a smugglers haunt, legend has it that an "unusual" Landlady (one who talked too much, heaven forbid!) gave away the smugglers' secrets in Wareham market place. Fearful of capture by the ever-present Excise Men, the smugglers silenced her by cutting out her tongue, thus creating that unique phenomenon "The Silent Woman". We aim to continue some of the traditions started by our predecesors, generations ago, albeit with a 21st Century twist!!"

I have been documenting the changing face of this neighborhood since 2005 to the present day. I never imagined that going to a photo meetup here would provide me with enough content and inspiration to continue to photograph the dynamic changes taking place as the neighborhood transformed from a dead retail strip on Dundas with derelict and shuttered industry to the hot hipster neighborhood it’s become. The Junction was not always known as such, it was rather West Toronto neighborhood, which for a large part was more often referred to the Stockyards. Meat processing is the only original industry that is still present today, to the dismay of residents. Industry was centralized here as the area had lower land prices and taxes and the creation of an official port of entry. Also Canadian Pacific developed a large rail yard which extends from Keele to Scarlet road. This led to massive industrial and commercial development which stayed for the most part until closures started with these companies in 2005.
Canada packers, CCM, Campbell Milling and Heinzman piano company were the most notable companies, which all have been converted respectfully to a large mall, another mall complex and a high rise condo. Other buildings such as the Symes waste transfer station and Sherwin Williams and Houghton plant were recently converted into a brewery, a failed condo development now waiting to be sold, and a studio complex with a gym and printing facilities. The first spot I photographed was the old Sherwin Williams plant in late 2005 on a cold Christmas weekend and it peaked my curiosity about industry in the city. Another notable location I visited multiple times was the old GE plant, which as of today (2018) is completely redeveloped. The old Bunge complex, which was located on St.Clair west of Keele was my personal favorite spot to visit while it was intact. I must have been 8 times and got to know the entire complex quite well. It was knocked over very quickly and the large stockyards mall took it’s place.
The story of my junction documentary project is quite extensive and the best way to discover more is to look at the captions on the images. I enjoyed exploring an area with so much industrial diversity so close to home and find myself wishing I still had something like this in my backyard.
Photos featured are from late 2005 to present, both film (in various formats, 35mm, 120,) and digital. Images are noted by their previous name, what they have been converted to, as well as approximate location.
33rd & Keswick. From the event description:
"Curfew protests in Penn North are being responded to by arrests and a militarized police force. We expect that in Hampden - a predominantly and historically white neighborhood - the response will be very different. This action aims to highlight the difference in how the city chooses to respond to the violation of curfew in a predominantly white neighborhood compared to the neighborhood of Penn North - primarily a community of color. The differing response will highlight anti-Black racism, an institutionalized practice of the police force and government.
This is a SILENT protest so that we can point people to the voices of those most devastated by white supremacy in Baltimore. Fliers will be available to pass out to passersby and media to explain. We'll be silent to the media, but engaging with those in the neighborhood. The idea here is not be the voice heard in the media, but point the story back to those most affected."
