Marine Corps Silent Drill team, going back to barracks after performing at the Barracks Row Fall Festival
Well, it seems so, but this night was not very silent. At my 1st shooting location in the park there punks celebrating a birthday under the bridge which you see 2 shots before. Well, i marked them as "No Enemy" ;)
At the next location in front of the theatre (last shot) 3 or 4 times a police car with blue light and siren was driving around.
In the inner City i allways heared several drunken guys shouting, but here the police were steady looking around and take care.
That's our saturday nightlife nowadays! What a bad fucking generation this is today :(

SEEING THROUGH ILLUSIONS

Hi,
The principle that powers Mind Magic and what we focus on in the Sleight of Mind Set workshops, is how we influence the silent questions in the minds of others. The tricks, illusions and pieces of performance we teach you on the SMS give you the tools and techniques to answer the silent questions. For more on this and information on the workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
Every time someone sees us, silent questions are stimulated in their minds. Every time we see or meet someone else silent questions are fired off in our minds. Though the questions are many, I would say that there are three dominant questions which arise when we are getting our message across;
What is your story?
Why should I care?
Do I need to pay attention?
All magic takes place in the theatre of our mind, as do the silent questions. It is in our minds that we pull together our experiences and answer the silent questions. I understand that all of life's experiences do not take place in the mind, but it is our mind that filters, interprets and creates meaning for us.
In communications theory the saying "it's not us, its them" has great importance.
Likewise in Psychological Artistry and in our Sleight of Mind Set workshops these take on a very important role. This is why understanding the silent questions are so important. The answer to these silent questions determines whether we grab and hold people's attentions or not. For more on the workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
THEATRE OF THE MIND - Tricks on 3 Levels
On the workshop we uncover tricks, look at making a trick into an effect and making the effect into a piece that works for you. The three levels we work on are:
Effect of a trick - triggers "how did you do that?"
Analysis of a trick - triggers "why does this trick work? Why does the effect happen?"
Practicality of a trick - explores how you can use the tricks
This involves using a combination of Psychology, Neuroscience, Smart Thinking and the ideas, tools and techniques from Mind Magic. The principles and lessons are useful in understanding our belief systems, how we think and act. It is in our minds that we experience emotions, thoughts and actions. These are in turn determined by the silent questions we ask ourselves.
We use Mind Magic effects as a reflection of how the mind works. We use the 3 levels above as a lens to increase our understanding how our minds control our actions, emotions and thoughts. It is through this that our minds tell us stories that justify our actions.
For more on this, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
SILENT LANGUAGE OF BELIEFS
Throughout the workshop we work with the theme of "All is not as it appears". Please take a look here at these example, the McGurk effect and Prof. Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect", a well-known Fred Astaire clip and Rory Sutherland's Perspective Is Everything talk. You can see them by going to mindsways.com/SMS/#PsychologicalArtistry. These show very clearly the importance of understanding the fact that
"We cannot believe what we see, but we see what we believe."
This is vital in all communications but also is a cornerstone in Mind Magic. The videos illustrate both the power and the approach of Psychological Artistry. I would love to know what you think.
THE FEEDBACK - What People Say
The feedback from the workshops have been extremely positive, with people (from last weeks workshops) saying things like:
"It really was most enjoyable and enlightening"
"Fantastic day... a great eye opener!"
"Another great course, with plenty to think about and over"
The workshops have been enjoyed and shown to be beneficial to many people over the past year. The events have been attended and proved to be relevant to people from a wide range of backgrounds including entrepreneurs, business consultants, health professionals, coaches of life, performance and sports, therapists, hypnotherapists, trainers etc.
This is an unorthodox approach to understanding human behaviour, illustrating and promoting our messages, and this is where the real power lies. As Marty Neumeier says in ZAG " Be Different - NO Really Different". For more on what people say, please see mindsways.com/WPS/
WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?
There are many definitions of psychology, some people will say it's about interpreting thoughts, influencing people's behaviour or getting a better understanding of motivation. It is all of these and more, but the one that sums it up for me is "the science of how we think".
Next is the artistry part, again, there have been many definitions but I like to think that artistry is a blend of:
Creating connection, rapport and emotions
Telling stories
Gaining and holding attention
Producing insights
Displaying human nature
Cognition
Show, Not Tell
Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insights (MMI's)
Therefore, Psychological Artistry is the blending of these two to create a method for successful communication. Psychological Artistry is where science and art meet Mind Magic.
The real power of Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry lies not with just the tricks, but the effect that the delivery of the tricks have on people, tapping into the emotions of mystery combined with the personal touch and firing off the silent questions. On the workshops and in the SNT kit, we give you the tricks, however, learning to use them with what you do is where the real power lies.
By delivering these tricks, you can evoke the making of the extraordinary. By combining the tricks with the energy of your words, your message and your personality, you make yourself stand out, stimulate fascination and create interest in you. This is when the real magic happens, in the theatre of the minds.

My favorite party of the night (Friday night). They had the music level just right... great lighting and mellow atmosphere. They had a 12' long foosball table and the room was lined with arcade games. People hung out, drank, played and had a good time. It was fun!

Taken at a Silent Disco on Friday night.
I met these two lovely strangers Matthew and Gemma (I hope I have remembered their names correctly).
Matthew's hat looked great in silhouette against the stage lights.
Many thanks to both of them for putting up with my camera in their face.

A medieval strongpoint on the Bohemian-Austrian border, first mentioned in 1360. It is a part of the village Tichá, a name which literally means "silent". The fort was always sold together with the village, and served as an administrative center. The village was burned down in 1486, but the fort was not damaged, and is mentioned in 1541 as being in good shape. It was damaged by fires in later times, the last being in 1789, a brewery later stood around the tower, but all the infrastructure and houses vanished in the 20th Century, and stone was carved out of the tower. The border area became inaccesible after 1948, and the husk of the tower stood as a ruin for many decades. A local conservationist society began archeological research and restoration in 2009, in which the original floor plan was uncovered, the tower got a roof and was restored with period accurate interiors. The fort stands at a pond, which fed a moat which is still well visible, and the restoration still continues.
Silent Movies by Tina Pfeiffer. Moro, OR 7.08
This theater has been closed for some time, evidenced by their last movie poster in the window--"Once Upon a Time in America" (1984). The lights are gone from the marquee and the windows are boarded shut. The owner of the antique shop across the street told us the original screen, seats and projector are intact inside. She suggested we purchase, restore and reopen it. :)
I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend at up in the Hurulu Eco Park near Habarana in Sri Lankas north east, right in the middle of elephant territory , way out of touch with everyday urban life.
Being in such an open environment without any doors or windows, waking up to the sounds of too many bird species to count and the knowledge that any moment an elephant may come around the corner was at once both soothing and exciting.
Our lodging for the weekend sat in the middle of a big, long rock which dipped in the middle and climbed up about 30-40 feet above the land around it at either end. On the first day itself we climbed to the more distant peak and sat on the lookout for elephants in the wide open grasslands around us.
It didn't take long for one to show up. It slowly came towards the rock on which we sat, at times pausing to direct its big ears at us whenever we made a noise. After a while it turned and started to walk alongside the rock and then away from us. For an animal so big and not coloured particularly well for camouflague amongst the grass, you would really need to be looking for one to notice one, even if it was only a few meters away from you.
Apart from the noise of it occasionally thrashing some grass or a branch around, or the rare step on something loud, the elephant was near silent. Despite seeming a slow mover, a brief distraction could result in the elephant having moved quite far from you.
If you were able to look parallel to the direction that the elephant was travelling though, you would see the trampled path it's left behind, and at the end of it - if you are lucky - the elephant itself, moving on after your presence has simply bored him/her.
How can anyone not love elephants?

To see many of the creatures in the Sundarbans involves a "silent boat trip" along the rivers. There is a small but growing ecotourism industry in the Sundarbans, and these trips are part of that. Aside from the three security guards at the front of the boat, those with us are, front to back: Russell Shubbo of the Bengali Service; Chris Ancil (Azeri); myself (Word Service Future Media); Barney Rowntree (Over To You); Rob Winter (Studio Manager) and Mouna Ba (Arabic).
