Who needs to eat brains when you can eat delicious chocolate!

Photograph taken at 14:30pm, at an altitude of One hundred and four metres, at the top of the steep hill beside the refreshment building, on Sunday February 2nd 2014 off Shooter's Hill A207 and Kenilworth Gardens in the grounds of Oxleas Woods.

Oxleas Woods are one of the few remaining areas of ancient deciduous forest in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, in southeast London. Some parts date back over 8,000 years to the last Ice Age., and for me there are childhood memories and good times spent here over the past forty five years.

Silent Movies by Tina Pfeiffer. Moro, OR 7.08

This theater has been closed for some time, evidenced by their last movie poster in the window--"Once Upon a Time in America" (1984). The lights are gone from the marquee and the windows are boarded shut. The owner of the antique shop across the street told us the original screen, seats and projector are intact inside. She suggested we purchase, restore and reopen it. :)

This is a "blind ballot box" that was used by Hose Co. No. 3 for silent votes taken of the membership. Black and white marbles were kept in the open end. Dropping a white marble into the hole signified a supporting vote, while a black one signified a “no” vote.

Because in some cases a single black ball could determine a vote, having been voted down by a single dissenting vote came to be known as bring "blackballed." In many instances (including this specimen), the black marbles were replaced with black cubes so that a dirty white marble could not have been mistaken for a black one.

My favorite party of the night (Friday night). They had the music level just right... great lighting and mellow atmosphere. They had a 12' long foosball table and the room was lined with arcade games. People hung out, drank, played and had a good time. It was fun!

We stalked some silent deer on the first of January this year in a coastal forest called 'Oranjezon' near Oostkapelle, Holland. It was so exciting to be able to zoom in on these magnificent creatures. Red deer (Elk, Cervus elaphus, Edelhert) mother and a year old calf, sizing me up and then vanishing without a sound. In the fall we witnessed the bugling of the bulls, but this day we got closer than ever before. A big treat it was!

We are trespassing big time for this part of the forest is closed tot the public. Foske is on a tight leash and trembling while she sniffs them out. Not a sound though. Nico and I communicate with hand signals while stalking and moving upwind of the wildlife. If caught by a ranger, I gladly pay the fine explaining that this beats a day at a gamepark anytime. Most of the times they comprehend very well. Most of the the times that is.

This isn't really photography work, just a picture of myself in my Halloween costume. I love Silent Hill. Give me some ideas on what to do this Halloween!

I have been documenting the changing face of this neighborhood since 2005 to the present day. I never imagined that going to a photo meetup here would provide me with enough content and inspiration to continue to photograph the dynamic changes taking place as the neighborhood transformed from a dead retail strip on Dundas with derelict and shuttered industry to the hot hipster neighborhood it’s become. The Junction was not always known as such, it was rather West Toronto neighborhood, which for a large part was more often referred to the Stockyards. Meat processing is the only original industry that is still present today, to the dismay of residents. Industry was centralized here as the area had lower land prices and taxes and the creation of an official port of entry. Also Canadian Pacific developed a large rail yard which extends from Keele to Scarlet road. This led to massive industrial and commercial development which stayed for the most part until closures started with these companies in 2005.

Canada packers, CCM, Campbell Milling and Heinzman piano company were the most notable companies, which all have been converted respectfully to a large mall, another mall complex and a high rise condo. Other buildings such as the Symes waste transfer station and Sherwin Williams and Houghton plant were recently converted into a brewery, a failed condo development now waiting to be sold, and a studio complex with a gym and printing facilities. The first spot I photographed was the old Sherwin Williams plant in late 2005 on a cold Christmas weekend and it peaked my curiosity about industry in the city. Another notable location I visited multiple times was the old GE plant, which as of today (2018) is completely redeveloped. The old Bunge complex, which was located on St.Clair west of Keele was my personal favorite spot to visit while it was intact. I must have been 8 times and got to know the entire complex quite well. It was knocked over very quickly and the large stockyards mall took it’s place.

The story of my junction documentary project is quite extensive and the best way to discover more is to look at the captions on the images. I enjoyed exploring an area with so much industrial diversity so close to home and find myself wishing I still had something like this in my backyard.

Photos featured are from late 2005 to present, both film (in various formats, 35mm, 120,) and digital. Images are noted by their previous name, what they have been converted to, as well as approximate location.

Um...while it may seem odd to see two of of the characters from the gruesome horror-survival game "Silent HIll" posing as the "Bachelor" in the "Dating Game", it wasn't a surprise to the audience at the "Cosplay Dating Game." The pyramid head dude answered for the mummified guy, until the end, when Mummy Dude pointed out that Pyramid Head was asking all the questions HE wanted rather than translating Mummy Dude's groans and murmurings. You had to be there.

NRI had two locations which were demolished by 2009 in the Junction. This building off symington was a good size and had offices, a lab, storage area and manufacturing area too. One more NRI still exists, near Keele and Junction road. Probably visited three times and apart from one time we ran into someone, it was interesting, quiet and easy to see.

To explore this issue, the Berliner Gazette organizes in November 2020 an exhibition with accompanying program such as artist talks, a three-day conference with workshops and talks, and a text series published on berlinergazette.de and our international media partners. On January 31st the Berliner Gazette organized a kick off event at the transmediale with presentations by media artist and filmmaker Benjamin Heisenberg and philosopher Janina Loh. The images above were taken at that kick-off event.
