The Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) is a Canadian holding company of department stores, and the oldest corporation in Canada.
After incorporation by English royal charter in 1670, the company was granted a right of "sole trade and commerce" over an expansive area of land known as Rupert's Land, comprising much of the Hudson Bay drainage basin. This right effectively gave the company a commercial monopoly over that area.
The HBC functioned as the de facto government in Rupert's Land for nearly 200 years until the HBC relinquished control of the land to Canada in 1869 as part of the Deed of Surrender, authorized by the Rupert's Land Act 1868.
At its peak, the company controlled the fur trade throughout much of the English- and later British-controlled North America. By the mid-19th century, the company evolved into a mercantile business selling a wide variety of products from furs to fine homeware in a small number of sales shops (as opposed to trading posts) across Canada.
These shops were the first step towards the department stores the company owns today.
Groot enjoys one last moment outdoors before New York City goes into lock down mode as ordered by Governor Andrew Cuomo. I'm really hoping that this helps to reduce the spread of the Corona Virus. Stay safe, everyone!

Every other story on the telly is about someone who dies, O why.
This is a bit of a historical sign of the times for me and well as a prgression in camera technology - starting with my first film point-and-shoot to mirrorless DSLR camera today.
I was telling someone since we started wearing masks both GP and I have not had so much as a common cold. I said I may just keep on wearing one even if they say we don't have to - I hate being sick and if this helps me stay healthy well what the hell.
Spotted on walk yesterday I had to take the photo as part of my "proof that man was here" series I started eons ago about tossed trash. I can't understand folks that just toss their garbage especially here in rural areas where many just drive along open the window and toss it. Take your garbage home with you!
I may not always have time to thank you all for your visits and comments but rest assured, that I do read them and am very appreciative that you took the time to pop by and see what I see here "North of 7" in Rural Eastern Ontario (North Frontenac Township) or, where ever else I might be with my camera now that I am retired and loving it.
