One of the more amazing sights in Sorrento is Vallone dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills). In a dizzyingly deep and narrow ancient volcanic gorge sit the ruins of a flour mill almost completely reclaimed by nature. Mills in this gorge stretch back over a thousand years, but the site was abandoned in the 19th century after expansion of the city of Sorrento, at the top of the gorge, cut the valley off from the sea and humidity rose dramatically. Now its own microclimate, this riot of vegetation and crumbling brickwork can be seen by leaning over the railings just off of Sorrento's Tasso Square.
It was so fun to get the chance to photograph Quixotic!! Their shows are packed full of magic and wonder.

Built in 1911 by homesteaders in the area, Peace Valley School was a typical one room prairie school house. In 1926, an addition was adjoined to the west end of the building. Finally, in 1946, Peace Valley School closed it's doors. Today, it stands as a silent and lonely reminder to educations past. Remains of playground equipment stand adjacent the school house, no longer entertaining childeren during recess. The school house sits empty, slowly starting to give way to nature.
