The Opened Sight
"I now send you, to open their eyes…that they may receive forgiveness of sins…"
[Acts 26:17-18]
This verse is the greatest example of the true essence of the message of a disciple of Jesus Christ in all of the New Testament. God’s first sovereign work of grace is summed up in the words, “…that they may receive forgiveness of sins….” When a person fails in his personal Christian life, it is usually because he has never received anything. The only sign that a person is saved is that he has received something from Jesus Christ. Our job as workers for God is to open people’s eyes so that they may turn themselves from darkness to light. But that is not salvation; it is conversion—only the effort of an awakened human being. I do not think it is too broad a statement to say that the majority of so-called Christians are like this. Their eyes are open, but they have received nothing. Conversion is not regeneration. This is a neglected fact in our preaching today. When a person is born again, he knows that it is because he has received something as a gift from Almighty God and not because of his own decision. People may make vows and promises, and may be determined to follow through, but none of this is salvation. Salvation means that we are brought to the place where we are able to receive something from God on the authority of Jesus Christ, namely, forgiveness of sins. This is followed by God’s second mighty work of grace: “…an inheritance among those who are sanctified….” In sanctification, the one who has been born again deliberately gives up his right to himself to Jesus Christ, and identifies himself entirely with God’s ministry to others. Hallelujah God bless
26 by 26 Challenge #26:
I want you to make an inspired and beautiful contribution to the culture that you are a part of. Document the process with an image.

Having helped run a photography group for visually impaired photographers I would like to raise awareness of problems with vision. I hope it may inspire other members of the online community to consider the difficulties and pleasures of photography for those who have limited sight, and even run a similar activity. I have just been diagnosed with cataracts and will find out first hand what "visual impairment" means, albeit on a temporary basis.
As a parting shot, thanks everyone for a great 26 by 26 year!

Technical Notes: Minolta XD7. The film emulsion was probably Rossmann's house brand of a ASA400 film, made in Japan, likely relabeled Fuji film sold under the Rossmann brand. This film does not exist anymore. Scanned on a PrimeFilm XAs in RAW with VueScan Pro, then processed in Lightroom with Negative Lab Pro.

Ramses has spotted a pigeon at the birdfeeder in my garden. So far he hasn't caught any birds yet, because usually he acts so clumsily that all the birds in the area know that he is there, unless they are deaf and blind. :)
One more capture in the comments !
We watched an event where the hatched baby spiders climbed up a web filament from the garden to the top of a metal pole. The mother spider was waiting there and would attach a line to each one of them. Each would be released and drift off on the breeze. Waterloo Township, Michigan. Can anyone tell me what this spider is?
Ellen Kooi, one of our favorite Dutch photographers is having an exhibition devoted to her work starting Wednesday, November 17th as a part of Month of Photography at the Dutch Institute, Paris. Images will be on display for a month.
For those who won't be able to participate in person we have another good news. Ellen's new book Out of Sight will be released within a week. Check the video to see it printed.
The large-scale panoramic photographs by Ellen Kooi challenge us to view the world as a dramatic narrative. She wants us to seek the border between fantasy and reality. At first glance, the people that inhabit these panoramas of (mostly Dutch) landscapes seem to be at the mercy of their surroundings. But if we look at these pictures more carefully we see a more complex relationship, as the landscape almost responses to its inhabitants. The displays of nature we see are a symbolic reflection of the inner turmoils, or indeed of the happiness of these people. In a way comparable tot nineteenth century psychological portraits, kooi tries to tell us about myths, chance encounters and our relationship with the outside world. But keeping this in mind, her works are as much concerned with the landscape as they are with the person. By forming close connections between themes set in our visual memory of history but never choosing a main focus, Kooi's works are suspensefull and hard to identify.
Using her experience in photographing both theatre and dance, Kooi creates scenes that feel familiar but look magical. Her refined techniques allow her to photograph landscapes in a way that we fail too see them. While some seem to focus on the fairytale qualities of her work, there also is a grimmer side to them. Children who at first seem to be frolicking may actually be running away scared or even petrified. A gorgeous woman doesn't gaze at the beautiful landscape, she sees the oncoming industry behind it. Like the solitary figures in the works of Caspar David Friedrich, the inhabitants of the world of Ellen Kooi are always both in awe and in distress. The contrast between a personal world of fantasy and surrounding elements that are both real and symbolic form the richness of Koois work.

These hands decorated with red rhinestones to complement the nail polish indicate a lavish person. The hands creating a triangle centered on the eye show a focus on an unknown sight, typically a goal. The off centered and slanted person indicates that although the person is focused on a goal, there are struggles and obsticles to overcome.
Sadly finding dead swans on the Levels isn't a rare occurrence...more often than not, it is the foxes that are to blame. They sneak up on them at night when the birds are sleeping in the meadows. This is the first time I've seen one in the water.....a very sad sight indeed.
The gun is inspired and some what based off of Brickmania's. Got the ideas for the sight from Florida Shooter. I recommend checking his account out.
