I've had these 10 foot lengths of 4 by 12 inch redwood from a demo'd water tower stored out behind the fence above the creek, along with some cinder blocks and leftover pavers. They're still there but now we can stand on them and look out over the creek from a new angle.
I think these little iris-like flowers are commonly called day lilies, though I don't think they're lilies. They open up in the early morning and by night they're usually done and gone. At least in my mind they have a very delicate and fragile feel to them, but they are surprisingly tough; they spread like wildfire around here, so they are taking over a part of my yard. They tend to bloom in big groups, so you come out in the morning to a surprise flock of these little pretties.
The plants that CNT generously donated for our rain garden have arrived! They will be installed on Saturday!
Strawberries (pots), eggplant, peppers, "Black Aztec" corn (planted too late in too poor a soil), 3-4 kinds of potatoes, and several other things growing in the side yard. Sunlight here is somewhat iffy too.
Davey got down to business yesterday and started mowing the sideyard!! LOL!!! He had to rest a bit on the chaise lounge Pouncer likes. I didn't get a picture of that because I didn't have my camera out but next time he mows I'll have it! He has a lot of work to do!!

We have three maple trees in our yard. One has green leaves that turn bright yellow in autumn. The one shown in this photo has dark red leaves that turn this lighter red/orange colour in autumn.
The other, we believe to be a cross between the first two. We discovered it many years ago as a tiny sapling growing against the fence between our driveway and our sideyard, midway between the first two trees. We transplanted it into the backyard and its leaves are a red-tinged green turning an orange-tinged yellow in autumn.

No, this isn't a moonshine still in eastern Kentucky... it's our sideyard. But that didn't stop Joe Henry from walking up to the metal waterbucket and start giving himself a bath like it was his only chance for another seven days.
We're building a cedar gate entryway into the backyard.

I was planning to print this image from a vertical shot I made at the same time. Looking for the file, I found this horizontal shot. Which do you like better? (don't worry about the color)
A volunteer growing by the side of our house. We haven't had time to do any gardening yet, but this guy decided to pop up anyway.
