I still have work to do on the side yard, but am thinking I am going to wait til the neighbor and I finish putting in the vinyl fencing between our lots. Chain link is so...ugly.

Rectangular cut slate used as step pads up the slope, cut into the grade, with Dymondia margaratae ground cover used to hold the dirt from washing onto the pads once it has filled in. The purple foliaged new trees are a newer selection of the Australian Agonis flexuosa 'After Dark' that has become quite popular here in California. These trees are replacements for some Purple leafed Plums that just grew too big, required constant thinning, blocked views of the bay for the upslope neighbors, and to be honest. I just don't much like them, kind of old fashioned and trite.

Found in a little strip of dirt along the side of my house. I know nothing about fungi so I have no idea what this is - mushroom or toadstool. If any of you know for sure what this is, please let me know! I'll post a few more views of it. It looks kind of spongy on the top and has no ring on the stem/stipe. And I should probably mention that I found it in my yard in Ventura, CA.

Thankfully he was in the sideyard under one of the trashcans on the otherside of the fence from the dogs.
