Finished my night shift (late again!) Couple hours sleep and headed over to get my Covid-19 vaccine jab! Cappichino as a reward on the way home, couple more hours sleep and now see if I get any side effects!!

Exploring the world around us truly is a global urge. What we chose to see and experience vary depending to what people are interested in, how much time and money they have and so on but the basic desire seems to be shared by everyone. Most often you start out by going to places near by which means something.

This can be the same places that other travel vast distances and dream about for ages. Visiting sites that attract local and global visitors usually creates an interesting mix.

Like these Buddhist monks that are visiting the main temple in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. The really look like they belong at the site but nevertheless they are also tourists visiting, experiencing and learning more about their own heritage.

During my visit I had many fun moments when friendly monks came up to me and asked if I could take photos of them with their cameras so they could remember their visit at Angkor. As a somewhat more strange and more sad sideeffect of them being there was that more fanatic fellow photographers could literally chase monks to get the "perfect" Angkor-shot.

You should watch this Large On Black since that brings out a lot more details. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background and a lot of the finer details are lost in this small format.

Gosh did I feel bad yesterday.

I woke up at about 2 in the morning, not feeling well, but tried to get back to sleep. By the morning I felt worse and carried on getting worse until about midday, when I thought I'd read the blurb they gave me at the vaccination centre. And yep, pretty much everything I was feeling was listed.

By tea time I was feeling better and managed a cup of tea and toasted bagel, which stayed down, so I was on the mend :)

Despite not feeling well, I would still have the covid vaccine, only next time I might ask for something other than Comirnaty.

Today, Friday morning, I feel fine, just a bit weak, but breakfast and a walk round the block will sort that :)

On the good side, the arm pain I felt a couple hours after the jab, has gone :)

So I started Chemo on Thursday. So far I've been feeling pretty ok, a little bit nauseated, but the various meds have been keeping it pretty much under control.

I have been feeling suddenly tired on and off, and one unlisted side-effect is frequent uncontrollable hiccups. Any of the normal methods that typically make hiccups go away don't seem to work. Not that I haven't been trying, which means I've been drinking tons of water, which I'm supposed to be doing anyway. My pee is very clear.

I haven't been eating all that much, but I noticed this morning that my weight is up a bit. Then I realized that 3 of the 5 pills I'm currently on are constipators, so I'm carrying around about 2 days worth of poop.

Double payment

[Oct. 2003] - Prescription drugs are the largest single health-care expense for most Americans, especially seniors. And drug prices are rising at a whopping 17 percent a year, more than four times faster than inflation. Pharmaceutical prices are higher in the United States than in any other country in the world. That's why increasing numbers of Americans are filling their prescriptions in Canada.

It's also why politicians of all stripes are eager to put their names on legislation providing prescription-drug benefits. Whatever emerges from this Congress is likely to be a complex and pricey scheme that will cost American taxpayers upwards of $400 billion over the next decade.

Drug companies say all this money is necessary because research and development on new drugs is hugely expensive. Bringing a new drug to market costs between $500 and $800 million. And we all benefit from what these new drugs can do.

But pharmaceutical companies don't own up to the fact that you and I are already paying twice for new drugs. Not only do we pay high and rapidly-escalating purchase prices for them, we also pay through our taxes. You see, a portion of federal tax revenues goes to support drug research.

For example, eight of the 10 most popular drugs produced by one of America's largest pharmaceutical companies were developed at the National Institutes of Health, which is a huge taxpayer-funded research complex. Most of today's anti-cancer drugs also have come courtesy of the National Institutes of Health.

Drug companies do research and development, of course. But they devote only 12-and-a-half percent of their incomes to it, on average. They spend more than twice that on advertising and marketing. Much of the rest is profit. And drug companies are very, very profitable. During the recent downturn, the nation's top 10 pharmaceutical companies reported a 33 percent increase in profits.

I've got a proposal that won't add a penny to the federal budget, will hold down a lot of drug prices, and won't harm research and development on new drugs. Here's the deal: Any drug company that wants its research subsidized by American taxpayers has to limit the price of its new drugs to the direct cost of producing them -- that is, materials, factory production, and distribution -- plus a fair return of, say, 15 percent.

No drug company has to take this deal, of course, because it doesn't have to turn to government to finance its research. But if it wants you and me to pay for its research with our tax dollars, it can't expect us to subsidize it once again by paying through the nose for its new drugs. Got it? One bite at the apple. Either tax-payer supported research or consumer-supported research.

It's their choice. But it's our wallets.

I am supposed to be in the hospital today, recovering from a procedure. But the Dr's office called yesterday, said I was too infected to come in. Can I stay on the new antibiotics a bit longer and they will try for next Mon. or Wed?
