The rocky pimple of Side Pike on the flank of Lingmoor Fell, we had tentatively discussed "nipping up to the the top" of it on the way up Little Langdale but by the time we got there it was too late in the day. That's our excuse for not doing it anyway.
Pinup girl sitting on top of a pirate skull. Sorry I know it looks provocative but I honestly can not take a picture of my side piece without it looking that way! lol

A Dacian settlement near SighiÅŸoara known as Sandova dates as far back as the 3rd century BC. It was the site of an Imperial Roman castrum and legion base from the 2nd century. During the 12th century, German craftsmen and merchants known as the Transylvanian Saxons were invited to Transylvania by the King of Hungary to settle and defend the frontier of his realm. The chronicler Krauss lists a Saxon settlement in the actual SighiÅŸoara by 1191. By 1280 it was known by the Latin name of Castrum Sex, and by 1298 by the Saxon name of Schespurch resp. Schaesbrich. By 1337 SighiÅŸoara had become a royal center for the kings, who awarded the settlement urban status in 1367 as the Civitas de Segusvar.
The city played an important strategic and commercial role at the edges of Central Europe for several centuries. Sighişoara became one of the most important cities of Transylvania, with artisans from throughout the Holy Roman Empire visiting the settlement. The German artisans and craftsmen dominated the urban economy, as well as building the fortifications protecting it. It is estimated that during the 16th and the 17th centuries Sighişoara had as many as 15 guilds and 20 handicraft branches. The Baroque sculptor Elias Nicolai lived in the city. The Wallachian prince Vlad Ţepeş, probably born near Sighişoara in 1431, minted coins in the city and issued the first document listing the city's Romanian name, Sighişoara.
The city was the setting for George I Rákóczi's election as Prince of Transylvania and King of Hungary in 1631. Sighişoara suffered military occupation, fires, and plagues during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Central SighiÅŸoara has preserved in an exemplary way the features of a small medieval fortified city, it was listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1999. Each year, a Medieval Festival takes place in the old citadel in July.
There wasn't much water in the stream that day so I could do with a return journey to do some more gushing pics.

More than 50 years separate the builder's date between the Amtrak Venture car on the left and the gallery car on the right. The Venture coaches were built beginning in 2017. The gallery car on the right (#758) was built by Budd for the Burlington Railroad in 1957. It is, according to www.chicagorailfan.com/rosmetcb.html owned by the West Suburban Mass Transit District. It originally had steam heat and incandescent interior lighting.
This relic is not just confined to, say, rush-hour service. It remains in daily use as evidenced that this was a Sunday train.
Kind of a crazy day today. I'm having one of those weeks where I just feel like I can't catch my breath. Tomorrow doesn't appear that it will be any different. That's good though, right? How boring would life be if I was bored, you know?
I hope you're all well and as unbored as I am.
