I love my savings, but lately with all the crisis and crazy fluctuation of the market it fells that my “economic nest” is getting smaller everyday…

For those who were curious, here's a reference picture of the acetone shrunk (shrunken?) Barbie head, center, next to a head of the same sculpt in the original size and a stock Obitsu head for reference.

With the temperatures soaring high in the northern part of India, touching the levels of 46-47 degree centigrade, everybody is eagerly waiting for rains to arrive.

With Carstairs closed for remodeling, and the dreaded rail replacement ("After wondering to myself whether or not it should actually be called a train replacement service" - HMHB) bus in operation, the elegant option was to head south on the ECML with this.

Okay I'll admit this looks a bit creepy. Would not invite anyone into your home while one of these jars is on your mantelpiece, it will probably scare the hell out of none dollie lovers :D!

I read a lot on the subject of vinyl head shrinking before I even attempted this.

One of you suggested www.dirili.com

Sorry don't know how to put a direct link in here and I also can't remember who suggested it, probably because it was almost a year ago.

I chose the slow shrinking method as I certainly did not want to risk the head ripping. I was already anxious enough as it was to try it out.

I didn't follow dirili's directions exactly, so here is what I did...

Before you read further every head is different so you are taking a risk you won't know for sure the size it will turn out to be and be prepared to make it into a trial and error project.

And please visit www.dirili.com who is an expert on the subject and has a lot of experience with shrinking heads. There is also a youtube channel.

Now I actually did it three times, because the first time it didn't work out. Which caused a problem because in my country you can only buy two small jars of aceton at a time. Some stupid law because apparently you can use aceton for creepy things other than shrinking doll heads. So no buying large jars for me, but several trips to several drug stores to get the amount I needed :S

I did the 30% water and the 70% pure aceton mix and left the head in the mixture for two days.

It shrunk a bit but it was almost not noticible to the naked eye.

So the second time I did a 10% water and 90% aceton mix and left the head in for four days.

And yeah it shrunk. It went from 4,5 cm to 3,9 cm.

I waited two days and then the head was already as hard as a golf ball, no joking here.

On the internet it said it could take one to two or maybe even four weeks before it would be that hard, depending on the head you used.

Maybe it was because the Hasbro head is already quite sturdy when you take it out of the box. At least mine was.

I wanted the head a bit smaller still so I dunked her in the same mixture and I left her in it for three days.

At first the head expanded again and eventually it shrunk to 3,8 cm so the last time I only gained 1mm but I decided it was enough.

The next head I'll try this with I believe I will leave into the mixture the first time for seven days and see how much it will shrink then.

The head got hard again in no time, which was a bit of a problem at first when I began to reroot her.

Rooting the first row of hair was really tough and I immediately thought the next time I will root the head first but gradually it became better.

I used two needles one to jam into the head to make the hole big and then the second easily went into it and out with the hair.

In the end it made the rerooting a lot easier.

No getting stuck into knots of previous plugs.

No holes ripping, not even the thatchline which is usually a real challenge for me.

Also when you still believe it wont work out for you put the head in some warm water and it will soften the way you are used to.

For me it turned out to work out a lot eassier a golf ball head and I look forward to the next try. I didn't even break the needle ;)

If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer, but I really suggest you go to www.dirili.com as well!

The head ON the doll is the one I shrunk. The makeup changed a bit but not to a point where it's weird or gross, and the head's a little bit smaller. I expect the head to get even smaller in the next few weeks. Maybe if I took it out after 26 hours the makeup wouldn't have changed. I left it in for about 49 hours! I'm pretty happy so far with the results.

Global warming is significantly impacting the habitats of diverse animal species around the world, including those of polar bears. These iconic Arctic animals rely heavily on sea ice for hunting seals, their primary food source, as well as for breeding and traveling. As global temperatures rise, the extent and thickness of sea ice are drastically decreasing, leading to a loss of crucial hunting platforms and forcing polar bears to swim longer distances, expending vital energy and sometimes drowning. This shrinking ice also reduces the availability of suitable denning sites for females, threatening the survival of cubs and ultimately leading to population declines.

Penguins, particularly those in colder regions like Antarctica, are also facing habitat loss due to the effects of global warming. Many penguin species depend on sea ice for breeding and access to their primary food sources, such as krill and fish. Warmer temperatures are causing the ice to melt earlier and form later, reducing the duration of suitable breeding periods and impacting the availability of food. Changes in ocean currents and temperatures, also linked to global warming, can further disrupt the marine food web, affecting the abundance and distribution of prey for penguins. Some penguin species in warmer climates are also vulnerable to rising sea levels and increased frequency of extreme weather events that can destroy their nesting sites.

While alligators are cold-blooded reptiles found in warmer, subtropical environments, their habitats are also being affected by the consequences of global warming. Rising sea levels are inundating coastal wetlands, which are vital habitats for alligators. Increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and floods, can destroy alligator nests and alter freshwater ecosystems they depend on. Changes in temperature and rainfall patterns can also impact the availability of prey and the overall suitability of their habitats. Therefore, even species adapted to warmer climates are experiencing habitat shrinkage and disruption due to the widespread impacts of global warming.
