Happy Hump Day, my Flickr friends! Thanks so much for your comments on the silk scarves!
6735. What a lovely dappled sunlit scene a Box Brownie camera has caught of these two crew members working hard on their tans at His Majesty's Royal Australian Naval Air Station at Nowra, NSW. This is a photograph that could be hung in the National Gallery of Australia. Laundry has been done, and there are two 1950s-style bicycles and, we believe, an Austin 7 convertible in the background - although we could be corrected on that.
Kim Dunstan, ex-816 Squadron ground crew, ran 1958-67, writes in 'comments' :
...'This is RANAS Nowra as I remember it. This photo would most likely be taken outside C10 accommodation hut, the living quarters were very basic, WWII-style units, that were quite spartan. The showers were in a block some distance to the rear- a chilly walk in the winter. The bicycles were a coverted item as it was a long walk to the workshops and hangars on the airfield.'
Photo: collection of Bernie Delaney, RAN 1951-1957, it appears here with kind permission from his son, Bernie Delaney Jnr, and his 'blokes 2012' photostream, which can be found here:

We ordered 25 chicks through the mail. They arrived in a shoebox. And didn't even take up all the space.
Resuming challenges.
Please see discussions for details.
This image really is from my shoebox. Due to PC change and LR's not-so-user-friendly file mgt system, I could not find the original file and so edited a screen-copy.

A female flicker chick got a tough start to life yesterday. In the morning I found it with its wing caught in a wire fence. I managed to free it, it turned and spread its wings and screamed at me then disappeared into the blackberries & bushes. I looked for it all day, but didn't see or hear it anywhere.
Here's the traumatic part... about 4 in the afternoon I hear this loud squawking near the same spot and when i looked over the fence, a rat? or something light brown, small & furry is attacking this flicker chick and is on top of it. Well I scrambled so so fast out the garden gate and over a fence to get there! The chick was lying on the ground motionless & virtually invisible against the dirt with the blackberry canes partially over it. i could see a wound on its chest, so didn't know what to expect when I wrapped my jacket around it to pick it up.
I was so relieved when it squawked and fought back, so I completely covered it, took it inside, got a towel, loosely wrapped it and put it in a shoebox. Thankfully we have the Wildlife Rescue Association (wildliferescue.ca/) who will take good care of her. When I got there, they whisked her away and I could hear her squawking at them, so I'm sure she'll pull through.
