A friend in the biology class. Eventually, after much saving from weekend jobs I bought a second-hand Cosmic-35, a plastic Soviet 35mm camera, and, with East German ORWO NP22 and NP27 daylight reloads, I had arrived!
In 1949 Ford led the pack in breaking away from the bulging fenders that had been the traditional, long standing look on most all cars of the prior years. The slab sided look, also affectionately known as the "shoebox" was a first to break away from that long lasting design style of the previous years. And it would start a trend that ultimately would be followed by all US auto manufacturers in the years that followed. It was a first for Ford, and I believe a first for all the automobile manufacturers. You might say they were the trend setter. Chevrolet, Ford's main competitor, however, was a bit of hold out and did not fully embrace the slab sided style until 1955, whereas most other car companies had already done so by that time.
In Turkey we staying in Bodrum with its crusader castle dominating the harbour. It was a quiet little backwater then, not the major resort I gather it is today.
My father, Jack. We met infrequently during these years, though we corresponded regularly. However, later we became close and explored outlooks and interests, which became useful towards his end, as, with a few words, we knew exactly what the other was thinking. Words sometimes shared over a prohibited glass of whisky. I know I have a negative of Jack taken with the Box Brownie from this era, but I can find it nowhere. Here we ate salt cod and drank many carafes of white wine in a cheap backstreet eatery in Rome in 1972. jacketmagazine.com/26/beech-l-w.html
After being 37 hauled all week, the Eastleigh based Test train ran this week. The usual "0Z37" ran, to remove them off, I knew it would be back to the usual 73/9s again. Here 73964 tnt 962 pass through Tudeley, working the 1Q56, Tonbridge West yard - Woking
There are stories saying that the design originally intended to be the 1949 Ford was deemed too large and became the now classic 1949 Mercury. The car that was to become the 1949 Ford was then fast-tracked with the help of an outside team who had their roots at Studebaker’s design studio.

It appears to be a 1950 model of the Ford with some customization. It was the second year of the ponton-styled post WW2 Ford.

1949 Ford. Called a ‘shoebox’ because the fenders were integrated into the body causing smooth sides and elimination of any semblance of running boards.
The hood is probably from a 1950 model based on the emblem drilling at the leading edge.

A northbound NJ Transit train winds around the s-curve at Elizabeth at 11:12 AM on 22 August 2003 with ALP-44 No. 4424 pulling. The 32 unit fleet of AEM-7 clones were successors to the vintage GG-1 and E60 models and enabled NJT to increase the number of locomotive hauled consists over the NEC and other electrified lines. Hard to believe they too are now retired.
Still haven't figured how to work those light poles out of the picture.
My mother, Amy, at her desk. From as far back as I can remember I always called my parents by their first names.
