not sure if cropping is an improvement

I took a little road trip to Shell Beach which is appx 25 miles

south east of New Orleans proper. A hard hit fishing community.

There is a Hurricane Katrina memorial at the end of Yscloskey Hwy....

both on shore and in the water. It's also an area where fishermen take

their boats out to the giant Lake Borgne, it is along the Mississippi River

-Gulf Outlet (MRGO) which is an inlet the leads to the Gulf Of Mexico.

from a small sea cave near Pismo Beach.

A dish shot... the swell was too chancy to take out the nice camera inside the cave, but now that I know what I'm looking for, I'll go back for an in situ photo when the conditions are better.

These are tiny little chitons... this one is around 5-7mm long, if I am remembering correctly. I forgot to measure, but certainly it's one of the smallest chitons I've photographed.

NOV 2011 ~ The Pelicans and Sea Gulls were all hunkered down against the wind with their faces to the sun. It wasn't exactly 'sun-bathing' but they were infusing themselves with light.

Makes you wonder why we wear sunglasses? And why doctors advise us against getting too much sun exposure? I know 'their' reasons, but I think most animals instinctively are wiser.

Wish I could have taken many more photos. The birds were very nervous, especially the pelicans. I attempted to be respectful and used my longest lens to keep a proper distance. The pelicans flew away a few minutes later.

I love the beautiful bark of the madrona trees. Canadians call them arbutus trees. Arbutus, menziesii

Somewhere deep down we saw sharks. Shark Bay, Australia.

During the week of storms, Scott had the good idea to go out to the beach and shoot the (expected) gigantic waves. Well the waves weren't that big, but we were there, with our cameras, what were we supposed to do? I had just borrowed Joel's 35mm f1.8, so I got to have some fun keeping the ISO low in the waning light.
