A very pretty church, which contains a secret, although there are hints outside with the ornate south chancel chapel. Most of the church (tower, nave, porch and south aisle) are the work of R Creed 1900. He confusingly placed the tower at the west end of the aisle rather than the nave. Unusual font, a little like a bird bath. However the remains in the south chapel of the Babington Chantry, one of the most splendid tombs and canopy in England, makes a visit here a must. The more you look at this confection of sculpture, the more you see. Medieval puns abound with Babies and Barrels, i.e babe and tuns. The tomb chest itself has gone but panels with exquisite carving survive on the wall to the west. I could have stayed here much longer than I was allowed. Not all of my pictures are as sharp as I would have liked but still give the impression of this wonderful chantry.
