I feel like this is a common picture. I'm sure theres millions of people who took a shot at something like this. Well, I was just bored. And it was fun.
A fave at this time of year at Jawbone. The Sharp-tailed Sandpipers can be seen in the shallows of the Jawbone Marine Reserve.
Happy Wing Wednesday!
Maybe a stencil design soon. The eyes will be a bit tricky though.

I finally got a clean look at a Sharp-shinned Hawk. I've seen a few Cooper's Hawks up close, but never a Sharpie. This one was hunting sparrows through the thicket, but he wasn't successful while I was there. He finally left this perch to chase an Immature Cooper's Hawk.

normally i only use fine (read: regular ball point) pen on my hands, but i've found that it works well on my arms too-- at least forearms. sharpie is probably better for upper still.
I keep all the "reject" paintings hanging around in the studio. I like to go back and look at them with fresh eyes to see if I can save them. Sometimes all it takes is a sharpie!
While washing dishes, I saw this immature Sharp-shinned hawk land on the roof across the street. I turned off the water, dried my hands and grabbed the camera and took a few shots through the window, but the light was dying and my camera doesn’t like that, so I took it outside and walked to my mailbox and used it as a support to get some closer shots. None was terrific. This is the best one, but it still leaves much to be desired. I still think it’s neat to live where hawks hang out.

Found this hawk at Bartel Grassland. Not sure if it's a coopers hawk or sharp shinned hawk.

I was outside the kitchen door, on the deck, watching a downy woodpecker skip around from branch to branch when suddenly this guy, our local Sharp-shinned hawk, dove at it.
The woodpecker got away and Sharpie took to a tree in the next yard to scan around. I was taking his picture at that distance when he lightly lifted off and flew directly towards me, landing on one of the posts of the deck.
I got a couple of pictures of him before he realised I wasn't part of the architecture, and he took off.
I love pens. One could say I am a pen hoarder. I inherited that from my mother. She loved pens and heaven help you if you used her fountain pen. I still use a fountain pen. She gave me my waterman pen went I was Commissioned in the CAF as we always signed everything with a fountain pen.
I appreciate each and every visit, comment and fave here on my little corner of the world as seen through my lens.
I’m [was] pretty sure this is a young Sharp-shinned rather than Cooper's Hawk. Please correct me if I'm wrong, Internet. Anyway, late this afternoon, this majestic bird chased after the lone White-Breasted Nuthatch that frequents my backyard feeding station. I hope all worked out well for the nuthatch in this instance because I've grown quite fond of him and his habits. [Now I'm somewhat confident it was a Cooper's. This bird seemed quite small, and at first I thought the streaking on the chest was more extensive and deeper than normal for a Cooper's, but since then I've seen examples of unmistakable Cooper's with similar markings.]
