Sharp Memorial Hospital first opened it doors in 1955 with the vision of offering the best that clinical knowledge and technology had to offer. Today, the new Sharp Memorial Hospital, which opened in January 2009, continues to be at the forefront of medical technology and patient satisfaction.
Crews brought in compost and dozens of new plants to put in the ground in the middle of the SR 20 Sharpes Corner and SR 20 Miller Gibralter roads roundabouts as well as add to the sides of the road and along the multimodal trail. This landscaping is one of the final steps of work on this Connecting Washington corridor improvement project.

I visited a new park (to me) here in Vancouver, BC yesterday. Queen Elizabeth Park is the highest point within the city limits of Vancouver and has so many incredibly beautiful trees that are booming with fall color right now. I was exploring the park for the first time and was looking for birds, specifically owls because I had heard barred owls like to hang out in the large trees here. I had no luck spotting owls in the forest so I moved along just walking the paths taking in all of the beautiful fall colors and song birds singing. I walked up a hill to check out a new area but it did not seem too promising when I got up to the top. So i turned around but had three options to choose from. Either the way I had come, or two new paths. I thought I would go back the way I had come in order to better access a different portion of the park. Man that was a good decision! I must have just walked past this Sharp Shinned Hawk in the forest on the way up. It was my first time coming across one of these guys, they are quite small and mainly prey on smaller song birds. It let me get fairly close and did not seem spooked at all. Eventually it got bored of me and took off right at me and flew over my head to land in a tree behind me where it started to try and find some dinner.

Had so much fun Jeeping around Death Valley for a few days, from the Mesquite Dunes, to Badwater, to the Devil's Golf Course, to Dante's View, to Rhiolite, to the famous Death Valley Racetrack Playa with the sailing rocks!
Been busy traveling and shooting landscapes and working on my books The Golden Hero's Odyssey about the golden rectangle and divine proportion I use in a lot of my compositions! Also working on my physics book on Dynamic Dimensions Theory! The equation dx4/dt=ic is on a lot of the 45surf swimsuit and shirts and all! :)

I'm working on an anthology of classic, epic poetry, which begins with selections from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey! :) I've replaced the Roman names with the Greek names: "RAGE, Sing, O goddess, the rage of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Greeks. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Zeus fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another."

Fujifilm XE-1 with 18-55mm zoom in downtown DC. I can't get enough of these old houses in the District. The fuji 18-55mm zoom is as sharp, contrasty and free of distortion as any Leica, Voigtlander or Zeiss prime lens that I've ever used and the X-Trans sensor in this camera is magic. I kept the Velvia jpegs for most of these shots but found the raw files more useful in extreme situations. Once again, 80% or so of the jpegs were good enough and it wasn't worth fiddling with the RAW files unless I needed to pull detail from extreme high contrast shadow areas.

My newest acquisition for 2011. This set exceeded my expectations in terms of overall performance. It has a 2SK3737 FET RF amp after its front end coils which accounts for its very high sensitivity on shortwave. Main IC is a TA2003, audio is a TDA2822M. Operates on AC or 3 "D" size batteries; in-built voltage regulator minimizes frequency drift on power supply fluctuations. The built-in speaker delivers very balanced sound with a bit of bass. This is one great, very well-engineered receiver.

Good day for the hawk ... bad day for the grosbeak. A harsh reality that plays out every day in the life of a wild creature. Out of nowhere this guy struck like lightning and I was lucky to manage one quick shot before it was off into the timber with its prey. My best guess is sharp-shinned but I'm no expert on these guys
