Music was always a part of my life growing up. I learned to read it when I was maybe 7 or 8 and all through to high school I was part of the school band. After that though, I just stopped....I barely remember how to read it now. I think thats one thing I wish I had kept going.

Moved this up front since it's supposed to be 100 (again) in Roanoke today...with a lovely air pollution toxin warning thrown in just to make things even more enjoyable!
I do like winter when it snows...but I only like snow when it is pristine and still clinging to everything like in this scene. That usually doesn't last long, for after the storm the wind usually picks up and blows it into an ugly mess. Here I'm hiking up Sharp Top after the season's third heavy snow. Over a foot of new snow on top of an older deep snow. It's well past my knees here, and even deeper in some places. This hike is over a mile with a 1500 ft elevation change, it's considered "strenuous" under the best circumstances, and as steep a hike as I know anywhere. I wasn't wearing snow shoes and don't even have any, who would ever need them in VA? I opted to skip the trail or road and just walk straight up the mountain to avoid any additional effort of distance. It was the most strenuous hiking I've ever done, much worse than carrying a heavy pack. I can normally hike to the top in a 1/2 hour or so, this time was almost 2 hours it seemed. Halfway up I considered turning back, but forced myself to keep going. One of those times I call a "heart-check" experience, gonna find out if it's still working well!

Believe it or not, I used to shave with this. When I first started growing whiskers, 30 or so years ago, I got it in my head that I needed a straight razor to get into the tight places, under my nose, etc. So I bought this, along with a shaving brush and mug, and went to work butchering my face. Actually, I got pretty good with it, but it didn't take long for the novelty to wear off, and I reverted to more modern methods. Yet, every now and then, I'll run a few passes over the razor strop and give it another try, just for old times sake and generally manage to keep my face pretty much in tact.
The topic for today's Our Daily Challenge is "Sharp," which is what gave me the incentive for this photo.

Last sunday I was painfully bitten by a very small insect (about 6 mm). Because I did not recognize it, I took a picture of it so that I could determine it.
When I looked at the photo, I saw its large, sickle-shaped teeth.
It appears to be the larva of a lacewing.
He was born on or near our house and I've photographed him several times but this is my best shot to date.

Just got back from doing laundry and saw this guy in my yard so I ran to get my camera and only got a few shots. But I am happy with this one :)

Towards the end of the day, back in Nottingham, this was pretty much the last thing we spotted before calling it quits due to the fading light. Sharpes ex-Dublin Alexander bodied Volvo B7TL VJI 625 is bizarrely parked up at the side of Maid Marian Way in Nottingham city centre.

Woman in a ticket booth. It's not quite sharp on her eyes, focus is somewhere on her arm. Does it matter ? I'm not sure it does. I think if it were sharp on her eyes the foreground might be too out of focus. Ideally I'd have not shot at f2, but it was in dim light and I was using 200 asa film.
