Specialist Mike Bowen, a combat engineer with the 368th Engineer Battalion out of Londonderry, N.H. shares a story with fellow Soldiers during the 94th Military Police Company's training exercise at the New Hampshire National Guard Training Center in Strafford N.H Saturday, April 20th. Bowen was one of several volunteers who came to the training center to assist the 94th with its training by playing an opposing force, or OPFOR, character.
Thursday morning volunteers packed this Share the Love box. They marked it with heart stickers and messages of hope.
PITTSBURGH, Pa - Residents from the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home (PSSH) in Erie, the Southwestern Veterans’ Center in Pittsburgh and the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home in Hollidaysburg participated in the annual Sharing and Caring Boat Ride on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The event included a catered lunch and entertainment during a mid-day cruise on the Gateway Clipper exploring the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. PSSH Commandant Barb Raymond served as this year’s honorary Captain which included the laying of a ceremonial wreath and a salute from the Pittsburgh Fire Department.
Sharing & Caring, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of hospitalized veterans. The organization is composed of an all-volunteer staff that represents 16 different veterans groups, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League and Korean War Veterans, etc. (Department of Military and Veterans Affairs photo/Released)

Each year, DDB Canada's offices showcases their culture of creativity by hosting Share DDB, a unique fundraising event where staff members contribute items to the silent auction. Items range from photography, paintings and handmade jewelry to rock-climbing lessons, sailing adventures, catered gourmet dinners and more. Anything that can be imagined (and made) can be submitted for staff, their significant others, clients, suppliers and invited guests to bid on.
The proceeds are split between two deserving charities selected by staff. Share DDB 2012 in Vancouver raised $18,100 for two very deserving charities, the James Lee Foundation and Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
I think this is bad because people leave their trash lying around expecting someone to pick up after them.
When they were little, Harry and Lily used to sleep together all the time. They have shared a room since Lily went from her bassinet to her cot when she was a newborn, and as they grew older and their small age gap closed, almost every daytime sleep was together. It was not something I encouraged at all, nor was it something I discouraged. It just happened! I actually quietly loved that they were becoming so close. As soon as Lily was old enough to climb out of her cot, it was a regular occurrence to find her snuggled up to her brother in his bed when I went in to check on them before I myself went off to sleep. Almost every morning, I could hear them nattering away to each other like an old married couple, sharing secrets and giggling together.
I can’t quite say when it stopped happening. There wasn’t a specific time frame I can remember looking back on and can say it was around then. It just happened, I guess. As Harry gets older, he is more and more prone to fight his day time sleep, (although he still really needs one most days!!!) And they both just got a bit old and cool for snuggle time. They still shared a room until about 5 months ago, when Darcy made the transition into her big girls room. We all sat down and had a talk about what we might do. Should they stay together and Darcy has her own room? Should the girls share and Harry gets a room all to himself? Or should the play room be sacrificed and everyone gets to have their own special room. To my surprise, and secret sadness, the decision was easy peasy. They would go their separate ways. I thought it would be so hard for them, but in actual fact, it was me who found it hard.
Every so often though, they remind me that it doesn’t really matter that it doesn’t happen all the time. A day time nap with your best mate every once in a while is still awesome.

We painted some Pringles cans to use as banks. The lesson on saving and sharing with others was lost as he sorted all the quarters and dimes and most of the pennies into the "spend" can.
