photography assignment #8--imagination

When my photography teacher looked at this photo, she said she wasn't sure it showed imagination very well, since it's just some pieces of paper lying on a table. I had thought it did show imagination, because these were shapes my sister and I were cutting out of pretty paper to use as decorations for a spring party we had last April...so I had thought it showed imagination because we were being creative while we cut these out, and that requires imagination. But I saw what my teacher meant when she said that it didn't show imagination, because to someone other than my sister or me, it probably doesn't. I still like it, though. :)

Played around with the cylinder street shot, after lot of overlay effects, I stopped with this. I know this is gaudy, but it was an experiment.

Have a great Saturday!!

Female design

Design created using custom shapes from graphicxtras.com (c) 2010 Andrew Buckle

The assignment this week was to use shape to improve our photos. To take this picture, I asked my brother, Wyatt, to be my subject. We went into the basement, and I made him jump for about forty pictures. This was the one I thought was most effective because he looks the most graceful. I believe I achieved this week's goal because his body position is an interesting shape.

In editing this photo, I cropped it very tightly. I blacked out the background, to isolate the subject. I also lightened Wyatt's body, turned down the saturation, and clarified the photo which all emphasized the subject. I wish the carpet were darker so it would be easier to darken and thus make the subject even more emphasized. I also wish I could remove the part of the rocking horse on the right side of the picture without making it look very unnatural.
