The heads of these two bolt seat posts are a beautiful design, perhaps like something more suited to wooden furniture than bicycle engineering. It's easy enough to accentuate the curves and form of the original shape using a file and graded cloth tape.

Czech seed beads in the shape of a roller are known as PRECIOSA Bugles or rods. The production technology for PRECIOSA Bugles is similar to that used for PRECIOSA Rocailles, however the cut rods with various shaped holes (round, square or hexagonal) are not rounded, but are merely fine tumbled in order to smooth off any sharp edges and heat polished. In order to produce an increased and more effective sparkle, PRECIOSA Bugles are produced with a twisted or extra twisted hole or surface which in PRECIOSA Bugles can be round or square, straight or twisted. The variability of the PRECIOSA Bugles is therefore enormous.
The size (or length) of PRECIOSA Bugles is given in a so-called linear series from 0.5'' to 15.6'', where the bugles with the smallest size correspond to ca 1.6 mm and the largest correspond to ca 35 mm.

Weathervanes by Daniel Jenkins
Hand-beaten copper sculpture with gold-leaf detail

Daniel Jenkins was born in Kansas, USA, in 1947, and arrived in Australia in 1981. He studied extensively in Europe, and is a jeweller and silversmith by trade. The technique Jenkins employed on Weathervanes is repoussé, the metal beaten from its underside to give shape and relief to the design, and was acquired while visiting Venice on a Palladio Foundation scholarship.
Each of the four weathervanes takes the shape of an animal: a horse, pig, fish and bird. They are positioned high on tram poles to give aerial performances with each gust of wind. The vanes have been conceived to represent specific aspects of Melbourne: the bird symbolises the city's parks and gardens; the horse symbolises its culture and sport; the fish refers to its waterways; and the pig represents the city's hope and future - the latter a tongue-in-cheek reference to 'pigs can fly'. Jenkins said of the sculpture, 'I wanted each of these weathervanes to be cartoon-like and even frivolous. We take our cities for granted and with the daily pedestrian bustle it is always business as usual. It takes something very unusual to attract someone's eye. I want people to look up and smile!'
The City of Melbourne commissioned Jenkins to make this work, which took him four months to complete. Lord Mayor Councillor Des Clark unveiled Weathervanes in March 1993.

This is the nearly finished NPC 4-4-0 cab Forward locomotive. I had yet to straighten the air pump and add some details here and there. At some point I may paint the model, but, I like the brass finish too. Several years ago, I built this model of the North Pacific Coast Railroad's "Thomas Stetson" cab forward steam locomotive. The drivers and wheel-sets, along with the detail castings are Kemtron / Precision scale. The remaining is scratch built from .015" sheet brass. The motor is a double shafted Cannon coreless can type, which fits into the boiler and includes a flywheel on the shaft end toward the firebox. The opposite shaft is connected to a NWSL idler gearbox which drops down from the boiler at the rear drivers. Power is supplied through the rail to the tender and the locomotive, the same way other brass models are powered. This engine also has functioning slide valves and inside valve gear. It is made to On3 (O scale narrow gauge). The model is built to represent the engine after a major rebuild which added a sand dome to help traction on the rail. The headlight was relocated to allow for a small oval shape opening in the cab front for more air to the firebox. There were also other small detail changes on the prototype during the rebuild such as the stack and air pump.

Tanvi Kant references textile crafts drawn from her Indian Gujarati cultural heritage in the process of creating beautiful, unique jewellery from re-used textiles.
Alongside her continuing work which employs wrapping and binding techniques to form neckpieces and bracelets, for the shape of things Tanvi has developed a new body of work using sections of fabric cut, hand stitched and embellished with embroidery, knotting, precious stones or hand-formed porcelain.
Tanvi’s work references the sari and challenges traditionally worn gold jewellery. Her choice of materials refers to recycling and sustainability but they also give reference to more personal and collective histories, subverting traditional notions of material value and beauty.

Azalea, clad in her pink and fuchsia blooms, symbolizes femininity and womanhood. A tender flower, Azaleas also embody passion and love for all she encounters within her springtime livelihood.
