You may or may not have heard of the Philips Hue, we've just got them at work and they're awesome.
They're a set of three LED bulbs and you control them from your iPhone, and can pick a colour/brightness. Might even make for an interesting lighting setup!

Long Valley Caldera is a depression in eastern California that is adjacent to Mammoth Mountain. The valley is one of the earth's largest calderas, measuring about 20 mi (32 km) long (east-west) and 11 mi (18 km) wide (north-south). The elevation of the floor of the caldera is 6,500 ft (2,000 m) in the east and 8,500 ft (2,600 m) in the west. The elevation of the caldera walls reach 9,800–11,500 ft (3,000–3,500 m), except in the east, where the wall rises only 500 ft (150 m) to an elevation of 7,550 ft (2,300 m).
Long Valley was formed 760,000 years ago when a huge volcanic eruption released very hot ash that later cooled to form the Bishop tuff that is common to the area. The eruption was so colossal that the magma chamber under the now destroyed volcano was emptied to the point of collapse. The collapse itself caused an even larger secondary eruption of pyroclastic ash that burned and buried thousands of square miles. Ash from this eruption blanketed much of the western part of what is now the United States.
Near the center of the caldera there is a mound called the "resurgent dome" that was formed by magmatic uplift. Though the area is still volcanically active, the caldera itself is extinct: seismic mapping has shown the magma body deep underground is mostly crystallized and not molten anymore. There is a hydrothermal power plant near the resurgent dome. The Bishop tuff is the oldest normally magnetized tuff (that is, it was formed when the Earth's magnetic north was near the north pole – as it is today). In the geologic past, water gathered in the Long Valley caldera and overtopped its rim, forming the Owens River Gorge.
Mammoth Mountain (11,050 ft (3,370 m)), is a composite volcano made up of about 12 rhyodacite and quartz latite domes extruded along the southwest rim of Long Valley Caldera from 200,000 to 50,000 years ago. Mammoth Mountain is one of the eruptive centers that developed late in the evolutionary cycle of the Long Valley Caldera complex.

Sarek National Park (Swedish: Sareks nationalpark) is a national park in Jokkmokk Municipality, Lapland in the north of Sweden. Established in 1909–1910, the park is one of the oldest national parks in Europe. The shape of the Sarek park is roughly circular with an average diameter of about 50 km (31.07 mi). The park has about 200 peaks over 1,800 m (5,900 ft), 82 of which have names. There are approximately 100 glaciers in the Sarek National Park.
Sarek is a popular area for experienced hikers and mountaineers. There are no marked trails or accommodations and only two bridges aside from those in the vicinity of its borders. The area is among those that receives the heaviest rainfall in Sweden, making hiking dependent on weather conditions. It is also intersected by turbulent streams that are hazardous to cross without proper training. The delta of the Rapa River is considered one of Europe‘s most noted views and the summit of mount Skierfe offers an overlook of that ice-covered, glacial, trough valley.

In 2015, 2016 and 2018, we pursued three 10+ days long autumn hikes across the unspoiled wilderness of Sarek national park, Lapland, Sweden - definitely one the most beautiful and remote regions in Europe and a true incarnation of the "deep north" expression.
It's difficult to describe Sarek and what it may mean for anyone who hasn't been there yet. It's a special place. A hidden gem. A delight. It's a place where adventure is not only ensured; it's an unavoidable and essential part of the trip. Remote areas, mighty peaks, glaciers one may see only from hills and not from valleys. Unmarked trails, cold glacial rivers, birch woods, reindeer, moose, and other animals.
Some call it the last European wilderness. I don't give a nickname; it would be incomplete and not fitting. Sarek is unique.

Babs Shape
Babs may have been hit twice with the ugly stick but let me tell you, she hit that ugly stick back with some major attitude! Always a trendsetter amongst her peers she lives to be cynical. If irritation were a gender choice on a form, she would check mark it with red pen because Babs cannot be defined by any box on any form - she just IS. And you better get over it.
What can you do with the Babs shape?

nrhp # 70000655- Also known as Criel Mound- The mound was originally conical in shape. Residents of the area leveled the top in 1840 to erect a judges' stand, as they ran horse races around the base of the mound at the time.
The Criel Mound was excavated in 1883–84 under the auspices of the US Bureau of Ethnology and the supervision of Col. P.W. Norris. The excavation was performed by Professor Cyrus Thomas of the Smithsonian Institution. Inside the mound, Professor Thomas found thirteen skeletons: two near the top of the mound, and eleven at the base. The skeletons at the base consisted of a single very large but badly decayed skeleton at the center, a "once most powerful man" which according to A.R. Sines who assisted Col. Norris in the excavation, measured "Six feet, 8 3–4 inches" (205 cm) from head to heel with broad shoulders, massive teeth and a very thick low and flat skull encased in a large copper headband.[2][3] This skeleton was surrounded by ten other skeletons arranged in a spoke-like pattern, with their feet pointing toward the central skeleton. The skeletons at the base had been wrapped in elm bark and were lying on a floor of white ash and bark. Several artifacts were found buried with the skeletons, including arrowheads, lanceheads, and shell and pottery fragments. The central skeleton was accompanied by a fish-dart, a lance-head, and a sheet of hammered native copper near the head. Holes found at the base of the mound suggest that the bodies at the base had been enclosed in a wooden vault.[4]
The Criel Mound is part of the second-largest known concentration of Adena mounds and circular enclosures. This area extends for eight miles (13 km) along the upper terraces of the Kanawha River floodplain, in the vicinity of present-day Charleston. In 1894, Cyrus Thomas reported 50 mounds in this area, ranging from 3’ to 35’ in height and from 35’ to 200’ in diameter. He also reported finding eight to ten circular earthworks, enclosing from 1 to 30 acres (120,000 m2). Stone mounds dotted the bluffs above the floodplain.
While many of the original Adena mounds were destroyed during later development of the area, a few remain. The Wilson Mound is in a private cemetery in South Charleston. The Shawnee Reservation Mound still exists in Institute, West Virginia.
Today, the Criel Mound is the centerpiece of Staunton Park, a small municipal park maintained by the city of South Charleston. It is a gathering place for community activities, such as arts and crafts fairs, revivals, memorial services, sunrise services, and town carnivals.

W: 30" L: 17" 180 PPI Digital Photography
1/4000 | ƒ/2.2 | ISO 100 | 50 mm
For this shot, I already had previous experience but wanted to take it again in hope for a better photo. The one change I made was putting the tee on an area with shorter grass, in this case the putting green. I went to Arizona Country club for this photo, and set it up, took a few shots, and this is what came out. I love the slight focus in the grass. I also love the detail in the ball. I used the tungsten white balance feature on my camera to create a blue shadow on the ball. For editing, I really didn't do much, slight crop, and slight levels. I am really happy with the way this picture turned out.
To answer the question for this week, How can you emphasize basic shapes and space to create a visually appealing photograph?, I took a very basic shape, a circle or in this case a golf ball and took a picture of it. The shape of the ball, then the shape of the indents on the ball itself bring out the basic shapes. To create a visually appealing photograph, I involved bokeh and a colorful blur int he background.
