Meet Linda, photographer, student at the University of the Arts, and local resident.
After dinner, I was hanging out in our local park with my kids. I watched this woman walk into the park, look around very intently, and then take several photos of that oddly shaped building you see in the background. She is taking a photography for illustrators course at the university (that's her brand new Pentax that she bought for the course). She's a sophomore, studying illustration. She really enjoys school. Her assignment was to take photos of geometric shapes - triangles, squares, circles, etc. - I think she said she needed numerous photos of each shape, and that building presents quite a few shapes. After we got done chatting, she hurried off in search of more shapes. I could tell she was anxious to complete her assignment, and the light was beginning to fade, so she was very kind to take the time for my interruption. Thanks, Linda, for being stranger 17.
Although this park was recently renovated, the building in the background was retained. I don't think anyone has figured out what to do with it (it used to house a weight room where Rocky Balboa worked out). Neighborhood lore has it that the building's roof design represents Christopher Columbus's hat (this is Columbus Park), but I doubt it. As explained by stranger 18 - sorry, you'll have to wait 24 hours to see and read about her (but I will tell you she has an almost uncanny relationship to stranger 17) - this is the "cupcake" building.
Made by dropping food dye into a tank of water. Using photoshop then to combine 2 photos, merging the layers in Multiply.
In this photo the principle of balance is present through the shapes created by the ropes. With the right angle, The rope creates an almost symmetrical shape. Also, the principle of emphasis is present. The ropes all collect together at the center, which emphasis the shape created in the middle. Another principle created would be rhythm through the rope coming from all angels. To take this photo, I went outside to the park near my house and saw this cool play structure. I stood under it and realized the shape created through the structure. I took the photo from many angels until I was satisfied. On photoshop, I made the photo a little lighter because the day the photo was taken was very cloudy. One thing I did well was capturing the element through many principles. Another thing I did well was creating a clean photo. One thing I would change would be taking the photo on a day with better lighting to get the best results.
