This egret had landed recently, and looked perfectly smooth until it did this shake, which fully displaced so many feathers!
This egret just missed its catch, and created a pattern of drops in shaking dry. I like that this shot shows both eyes from below!

Yes, this is the same bird as yesterday's photo! While drying himself off, the Ruby-crowned Kinglet really showed me where he gets his name. I've never seen this much red on one before, and it's frankly amazing to me how thoroughly he keeps it hidden. Glendale, Missouri

This one had found a quiet spot in Skeleton Creek to have a bath. I love how they shake their feathers to dry off.
Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae)
This one had just come off nesting duties, both parents incubate the eggs, and had a bath, preen and shake.
