These tissue paper flowers are made from red tissue paper and repurposed sewing patterns. Each flower is about 4" across and the black pipe cleaner stem is about 8" long with a button threaded on for fun. Each flower is unique and the set of 4 will be randomly chosen from those I have on hand. Make great gift toppers!
Note that the sleeve cuffs here are about an inch wider than the original SYL cuffs. I decided to cut them back to the original width, then finished the dress. All changes explained in the Flickr photos.
spring sewing project #1 = done! this is megan nielsen’s darling ranges dress in anna maria horner’s loulouthi voile (yes, two wonderful and inspiring women combined in one dress!!). i just love everything about this the dress – the waistline, the buttons, the pockets…!! oh, and i love the way the voile flows! and the little pattern booklet is so cute! i just shortened the length of the sleeves and skipped the elastic. wearing this dress certainly puts me in a very very happy mood!!
Here is my sewn sample of the real life size version. Voting ends Wednesday April 4, so if you think it's a winner then get your vote in if you haven't yet. Thanks!
Pictorial Review Pattern Catalog, July 1928. RARE!!!
Pictorial Review magazine started producing their own sewing patterns around the turn of the century (1900). Simplicity bought Pictorial's pattern business in 1936, and the magazine merged with The Delineator (associated with the Butterick pattern company) in 1937. Delineator magazine folded in 1939.
Pictorial Patterns are rare to find today. If you find one, you can bet it is from before 1936, though some unverified evidence suggests Simplicity continued using the "Pictorial" name in Australia for a time (until 1950s?)
