Our Daily Challenge 2-8 January: Thread

Images of the new bernette Milan sewing machine series, launched in 2015 (Milan 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8).

I cleaned up last night.

I have up loaded these 2 photos of an old bike shop for a friend. George Hall was her relative. She was not sure where the shop was situated, but I am now certain that the address was 43 Old Dover Road, London, SE3, with dates 1900 – 1905.

The original photo shows more of the building. The close up highlights some period items in the window and the lovely characters posing for the photo.

Alan Smythe, Flickr member Laters, has kindly done much research in identifying the original address of the building and the it's destruction. Alan comments below are worth reading.

I photographed the window display at one of my local antique shops. They had a Sewing Machine display, showing off some very old and vintage pieces... Here is a few items I could capture through the glass.

Sophie posed so well for these shots. They ended up going on a flier for Kelly's sewing class. She's launched a new sewing company, which still does some classes, at mightyneedle.com.

... finally in work!! She´s just great with all this tiny stuff I´m sewing :)

This is she:

Pfaff 332 the German Panzer machine.. haha just kidding. :)

The result of sewing machine repair store: going up to better model! Basically same but with free-arm (the table is collapsible) which mean a lot easier to access the bobbin... And a little more lightweight! (= I can carry it home from repair store with lots of trouble. Earlier = not possible at all) And oh, hidden motor. No risk of hair getting caught in the belt....

This machine work perfectly = work as it should do as new!

I had a lot fun to test out all the "embroidery" stitches, and then tested them with twin needle as seen here with 2 different colored thread spool. Neat effect!

The only down thing with this is that this reeks of smoke. But I guess it will go away with time. And smoking was kind of more common back in time, yes? This baby is from the 50's after all.

The cables were replaced by me. The old ones functioned ok, but I needed to replace the prong to wall outlet as it is wrong shape for my room with earth-outlets. I got carried away and replaced the cables as well. The cables was yellow, sticky, and smelly. When I opened the foot control I saw how the cable bit hidden inside there was WHITE. Not yellow. O___O EW! :D

I also cleaned the machine with Mr magic clean or whatever it is called sponges. I found such sponges here - YAY! but with other name. Machine had yellow and sticky surface so I scrubbed and scrubbed. The store obviously didn't know how to do a proper cleaning and service as the machine was dusty inside aswell. lol. What about 1 cm thick ring of lint around the needle bar? But I forgive them as they let me upgrade machine without extra cost.

And dollysewing? I still sew on my trusty childhood gift Pfaff Hobbymatic 919... :D This is for embroidery stitch purposes and heavy duty sewing. But I will buy new presser feet for this though so I can sew perecision too.

EDIT: Now I have 3 sewing machines with different purposes so I use this for heavy duty sewing. (this sew everything I throw at it, even with the worst worned out needle ever.)

It is not a good idea to use the sewing machine in front of an open bedroom window, no matter how hot the evening.

The bat eventually left, after swooping round the room for a while.

Love all the little details and cute little blocks...Check out the paper pieced wooden spoon !...I said to Rachel I would love something woodenspoon inspired - i think she nailed it!! ....love it!! I also recieved a lovely bundle of gorgeous fabric, a drawstring bag which I have put to good use and am keeping a current crochet project inside!... Rachel also generously sent a book of boxes to colour in and make (for my daughter) and a bag pattern! and a sweet little key fob! Feeling SOOOO spoilt!!!

Our sewing machine, of through this my Mother earned a living, raised me and sent me for education. Not a small effort.

Nonna Esther, my maternal grandmother, was a talented seamstress. She taught my mother how to sew and my mom in return had taught her younger sisters the art of sewing as well.

It was actually thanks to her sewing skills that Nonna Esther met her husband, my grandfather, Nonno Joseph.

They got married shortly after and had gradually eleven children. My beloved mother was the fifth in line and had survived all her siblings. She passed away almost three years ago at the age of 98 years and five months. R.I.P.

and there she was, gleaming in the dark, calling to me, "come quilt, come quilt, know you want too...."
