Classic first bend speedway action from The Shay, Halifax, in the early 1980s. Halifax Dukes pair, Australian Steve Baker (red helmet) and Mancunian Craig Pendlebury, hit the front after making the gate. By this time, the third - and final, it would seem - boom period in speedway's history was beginning to end. Halifax's last season at The Shay was 1985 after which the team moved to Bradford. Note the classic red and blue Dukes racejacket, featuring the club's unique Indian elephant logo. Nickname and logo were borrowed from the now defunct Duke of Wellington's Regiment, which had a strong connection with Halifax. The addition to the racejacket of the Pennine Radio name reveals an early successful attempt at team sponsorship. Courtesy of speedwayondisc.blogspot.co.uk

I set out today to give a test ride to a new camera device, the GigaPan, a computer controlled camera mount designed to make large detailed images of landscapes and such.

However, it;s a long story, but I am without my spare battery and charger for my Cabon Powershot (left it in some hotel on the east coast), so I did not have juice for a panorama.

This spot is on the edge of the Mogollon Rim looking south over the town of Pine, Arizona.

I will return when I have juice!

This is all a matter of being there at the right moment, to capture the fireworks just in time. After awhile I came inside, it's a hot 4th of July night. I missed some real good photos, because I didn't click the camera in time...But I am pleased to have captured this.
