Hundreds of people passed over the crossing while I was there for maybe 15 minutes, and I heard just one person comment on the sunset. 180 degrees to my back, a HUGE thunderhead was blowing up over Chicago's Loop

As the sun sets in early evening...an architectural painting by expressionist painter Stephen B Whatley of a Welsh stately home, commissioned in July 2013 - and photographed moments after the work of art was completed on location.

Architecture painted directly on location has been an abundant feature of Stephen's work; and his commissions since the early 1990s include 5 architectural paintings for BBC Heritage, 2 paintings of Buckingham Palace for The Royal Collection & London Transport Museum & several landmarks of the Tower of London, amongst the series of 30 works commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces. The Tower series is permanently reproduced throughout Tower Hill Underpass, that leads from Tower Hill Station to Her Majesty's Fortress in London.
