went to the bijenkorf yesterday and found this lovely dish on sale for €3.50! and i just loved the orange color
I'm opening a new online shop. I'll be updating my profile in a few weeks to reflect the additional link.
Meanwhile, I've got some things from my folks' attic and some fun things of my own that I'm willing to part with that are too good to smash for mosaics but not really something I want to hang onto. So, it is time to open a vintage shop! Yay!
This beauty was made in Italy. The wooden stand is all one piece, cut into 3 pieces of wood shaped like birds. The dish is damaged, unfortunately. Has chips around the edges and a nice chunk out of the top flower. I'm guessing it's about as old as I am, give or take a year or two. And we all know I've had my own chips and chunks taken out of me in my soon to be 58 years.
I'm excited about the newest venture and have tons of cool things to photograph and share!
SCE_5459 Waddesdon Manor, Oxfordshire.
Visit to Waddesdon Manor (HP18 0JH) in September 2015. Usual National Trust stately home but with some problems for the photographer. Inside light very low (to protect furnishings etc.) and often very yellow. Lot of work to get some reasonable shots to put here.
Nice grounds and worth a visit. Exotic bird aviary, modern sculptures and older statutes to look at. Good cafe and restaurant but can get very crowded.
Shooting photographs through black wire mesh is never easy.
Would recommend.

Typographic serving dish.
The text reads "different men have different opinions, some like apples and some like onions."
Lettering by Tyler Johnson, dish modulated by Flavia Sanches, with ceramic production by Silvia Sanches.
An interesting piece - it is clearly an advertising gimmick for the distillery - James Watson & Co Ltd, Distillers, Dundee.
I bought it because of the subject - St Michael's Mount in Cornwall. There was another plate on sale - of a Scottish rock formation. It was only when I got it home that I realised I should have bought the other, too. It's a pun - "Scotch on the rocks" - prominent rocks around the British Isles being featured on each of these trays.
Perhaps others have seen further examples in the series.
From what I've seen through Google, under the hand-made label below the image the name of one of Watsons' whiskys is printed. A past owner would rather not be seen to be endorsing intoxicating liquor in their home - so has blanked out that reference - and also the name of the distillery printed on the back of the plate.
No manufacturere's name is given on the plate, but a letter 'H' is visible, and the number 11 surmounting 09 is stamped onto the reverse.
Crisp fried fillet of pike-perch with swabian lentills, Potato mouseline, brown butter and ased vinegar.
Ased vinegar. ;)

Does anyone recognize these? They are beautiful leaf dishes but I haven't seen them anywhere else. They have a loop almost like they'd be for hanging.
