At the VRATE Expo in Glendale, Arizona, this puppy in training patiently participated in a vendor booth featuring service animals. He is featured in the previous photo which shows how his trainer carries him in a baby sling out in public. The organization is Arizona Goldens, LLC, from their website:
"Arizona Goldens LLC is a company that raises, trains, and places highly trained service dogs with adults and children with disabilities. We specialize in training dogs for mobility, vision, hearing, as well as therapy work."
VRATE is held annually to benefit community members showcasing an expo for vision rehabilitation and technology.
Technicians at the Airbus facility in Bremen, Germany weigh the European Service Module ahead of shipment to Kennedy Space Center. The service module will depart Germany on November 5th, 2018 and will arrive in the U.S. on November 6.
For the first time, NASA will use a European-built system as a critical element to power an American spacecraft, extending the international cooperation of the International Space Station into deep space. The European Service Module is a unique collaboration across space agencies and industry including ESA’s prime contractor, Airbus, and 10 European countries. The completion of service module work in Europe and shipment to Kennedy signifies a major milestone toward NASA’s human deep space exploration missions to the Moon and beyond.

Officers and staff of Greater Manchester Police came together today, 10, November 2017, at the Force’s memorial garden in a service of remembrance for those who have died in the service of their country.
The service, held at GMP’s Sedgley Park Centre in Prestwich, consisted of prayers, hymns and readings.
The Force’s Chief Constable, Ian Hopkins, laid a wreath on behalf of the Force.
Deputy Mayor, of Greater Manchester, Baroness Beverley Hughes also laid a wreath.
The service was attended by the family members of Greater Manchester Police officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

Have seen a few joint venture vehicles on this duty (although normally a Panther) so might be a regular feature now. On return to Aberdeen the bus goes out on the M9A to Dundee.

Some Japanese service behaviours that foreigners may or may not appreciate. Of then they will but some, especially caucasian foreigners may be irritated by some Japanese attempts at service in ways that the foreigner does not expect. I have put an X against those services that I think are best avoided, and a triangle next to those that may, occasionally, result in a negative reation.

Why might Westerners not be happy with some of these instances of Japanese service? Explaining the ones against which I have put a triangle or X....
Spoke in a high pitched voice. It is common for female, and even male (e.g television shopping announcers), Japanese sales staff to speak in a falsetto voice an octave higher than they would normally. This is I think to to be more humble and less threatening (like a child or small person) and also perhaps to depersonalise the interaction so that the customer does not feel oblidged to reciprocate service received, as would be the case in normal Japanese interpersonal interaction, since the false voice connotes that the service staff is a role rather than a person.
This may be felt to be less than ideal to some Westerners since on the one hand they would not want the service staff to demean themselves to that extent, and on the other they would like to be served by a person (and demean that person!) rather than a role.
The falsity of the voice may be felt more acutely by Westerners since I believe Westerners identify more strongly with voices. To a Westerner putting on a false voice is to affect a greater trait rather than state change on the part of the sevice staff. To a Westerner, if a service staff member affects a smile then all they are doing is pretending to be pleased to see you, but if they change their voice then they are pretending to be a different person.
Research shows that Japanese are more sensitive to the information content of tone of voice (Ishii and Kitayama) presumably because Japanese express their state, their emotion, their desire, through the tone of their voice whereas Westerners feel that a vocal tone is something that is situationally unchanging, depending upon personality.
(I really don't know why however, in stage plays featuring famous television and cartoon characters, it seems essential that these characters speak in the same voice as that used on screen, so stage players in Japan mime to a recording of the voice of the voice actor, or more likely actress, that dubbs the character, suggesting a greater degree of voice-identification.
Conversely again, I am troubled by the fact that a great many preadolescent male characters, such as Crayon Shin Chan or even I think Satoshi in Pokemon, are voiced by women. I don't think I noticed that the voices are female, but once I am told, I find it troubling that for instance, Satoshi's voice is that of a woman. It makes me wonder "Who is Satoshi?" or think that "Satoshi is unreal, polysexual, a fake!")

New Vernloyd Service Station Opens Sunday
Opening of the Vernloyd Service Station and Garage on the Lincoln Highway, one-half mile west of North "L" Street, has been set for Sunday, May 7th. It has been built by Miss Dora Anderson on the C.H. Anderson ranch. It is leased to E.C. Beach. Selection of the name Vernloyd has an interesting feature, it being combined from the names of Miss Anderson's two nephews - Verner, son of Clarence Anderson of Livermore, and Lloyd, son of Chester Anderson of San Carlos.
The National Emergency Services (999) Day took place on Sunday 9 September in Manchester’s Heaton Park..
The event began at the 9th hour of the 9th day of the 9th month.
The aims of the day were to promote volunteering in the emergency services, educate the public about using the services responsibly, teach life-saving skills, and promote the work our services do on a daily basis.
Members of services from across the UK attended.
Greater Manchester Police’s volunteer cadets were out in force and members of our Road Policing Unit were also on hand to talk about motorcycle safety as part of the BikeSafe project.

Members of various New York National Guard units gathered at Ralph Wilson Stadium on November 9, 2014 in Orchard Park, NY and performed a Veteran's Day ceremony. The group unfolded a large flag across the Buffalo Bills field while aircraft from Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station did a fly-over. A group of Soldiers took this day to do a mass re-enlistment conducted by the New York State Adjutant General, Major General Patrick Murphy.
Despite existing habitat, the endangered spruce-fir moss spider had never been found on Mount Craig - the second-highest peak in the eastern United States.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Susan Cameron visited Mount Craig in July, 2019 to search for the spider. Her effort was met with success as she logged the first known occurrence of the spider on the mountain.
