Storm Bert delivered snow to Edinburgh on the morning of 23rd November 2024 disrupting bus services in this hilly city. At 1040 hrs, Lothian Buses announced that all services were being withdrawn and vehicles ordered back to the depots. About forty minutes later, three vehicles displaying “Not in Service” are seen on the upper part of Leith Street in the city centre. The operator began resuming some services in the early afternoon.
With a little help from my friend and yours the photo editor this has become one of my favourite shots I have taken in recent times. I am very mindful of the fact that I only have two free shots so am trying to either maximise them or replace a few of my lesser shots. This one doesn't fit either of those criteria's in the sense that this is 17s second Flickr shot as it previously appeared back in the summer of 2018, on a stormy summers afternoon.
Cramond is a fantastic place for shots as there are a couple of interesting shots and this being the terminus for the 32 means that there is slightly more time available for getting the right composition. The trees behind especially in the sunshine make for a rather glorious backdrop.
Now lets properly talk about service 32, if I am being honest I slightly forgot it existed until I captured this shot. Introduced back in July of last year this is my first shot of the route in action. It runs only through the Western proportion of the city starting here at Cramond and moves through Cammo, East Craigs, The Gyle Centre, Hermiston Gait, Heriot Watt, Currie and Balerno. So, its a rather interesting route and definitely got some potential for some fantastic photos in new locations. If I am being honest I don't know how well the route is doing passenger wise as I rarely see the route pass me by but believe there is possibly a fair few passengers. I am hopeful to try and ride the route in the coming weeks and check it out properly.
How are these buses coming up 11 years old. I remember when they joined at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the diving here in Edinburgh. They have certainly been mainstays since running service 30 for at least 7 years and now alongside the 32 it mainly runs service 36 with outings on the 38 and other Longstone routes and has been there all 11 years of service.
So, here we see Lothian buses 17 on service 32 duties as it terminates in the Cramond sun on a crisp Saturday afternoon before it heads back to Balerno.
First I had to decide which of my many addictions I was willing to share. I went with one of the less embarrassing ones. I'm addicted to lip balm. I can't go more than a few hours without putting some on. I have one of these tubes in every room and one in my purse. One of the first things I do in the morning and the last thing I do before i go to bed is...you guessed it put on the lip balm. I incorporated the flower in my composition because of the Burt's Bees association. It's the only kind I use. And I'm not kidding when I say right now I feel like I need to go put some on.
