This was a Winnie & Walter and Simon Says Stamp collaboration project. The SSSFlickrChallenge is all about love, and what says love like a good hug? W&W is having a month-long Birthday bash, and one of their challenges was to use inlaid diecutting technique. I used their hugs die, but then needed something to complete the sentiment. I pulled out the fabulous "Sending and Wishing" stamp set by SSS to finish it off. I also used an assortment the best grays in the world - SSS Slate, Fog and Smoke cardstock.

Jill Corey (born Norma Jean Speranza, September 30, 1935) is an American popular standards singer.
Corey was born in Avonmore, Pennsylvania, a coal mining community about forty miles east of Pittsburgh. Her father, Bernard Speranza, was a coal miner, and she was the youngest of five children. She is a 1953 graduate of Bell-Avon High School.
Corey began singing as an imitator of Carmen Miranda at family gatherings and on amateur shows in grade school (never winning any prizes, usually finishing last).
At the age of 13, she began to develop her own style. She won first prize at a talent contest sponsored by the Lions Club, which entitled her to sing a song on WAVL in Apollo, Pennsylvania. This got her an offer to have her own program. By the age of 14 she was working seven nights a week, earning $5 a night,[citation needed] with a local orchestra led by Johnny Murphy. By the age of 17 she was a local celebrity talent.
It was suggested she make a tape recording to demonstrate her singing skills to the outside show business world.[by whom?] She made the recording at the home of the only owner of a tape recorder in town, with trains going by in the background and no accompaniment. But the tape came to the attention of Mitch Miller, who headed the artists & repertory section at Columbia Records. He normally received over 100 record demos a week, and this one, with a 17-year-old girl and its train background, would not have been likely to gain his attention.[citation needed]
He telephoned her in Avonmore, and the next morning she flew to New York to be heard by Miller in a more normal studio setting. Miller had Life Magazine send over reporters and photographers, and had her audition with Arthur Godfrey and Dave Garroway. The Life photographers reenacted her signing a contract with Columbia, and all this happened in a single day, with her headed back to Avonmore that night.
Both Garroway and Godfrey called her, and it was her choice to pick one; she picked Garroway, who took the name Jill Corey out of a telephone book. Within six weeks the Life article, with a cover picture and seven pages, came out. Jill Corey became the youngest star ever at the Copacabana nightclub, and had numerous hit records.
Corey was a regular on the television variety programs Robert Q's Matinee (1950-1956]:900, The Dave Garroway Show (1953-1954), and the 1958-1959 version of Your Hit Parade.:1209 She was co-host of Music on Ice, a variety program on NBC (1960)
She also worked on television with Ed Sullivan. In 1956 she became a regular on Johnny Carson's CBS-network comedy-variety show from California. In addition, she had her own syndicated radio and television shows.[citation needed] In 1959 she starred in a feature-length musical film for Columbia Pictures, Senior Prom (co-produced by Moe Howard of The Three Stooges).

Original version of - Gonna send you back to Walker - is done also in 1964, but earlier, by TIMMY SHAW. But his original line was "Gonna send you back to Georgia" ! But - yes, these guys on the record sleeve are of course not the ANIMALS !!! This is THE SWINGING BLUE JEANS !!! I held this single nealry 35 years in my hands, but I never checked that there is no Eric Burdon on the pic.
STAND WITH COMMUNITIES, NOT CORPORATIONS
September 13, 2018 - As the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) begins, Indigenous and frontline communities continue to send Governor Brown and those attending the summit the message - stand with communities, not the climate profiteers and the fossil fuel industry.
From the organizers:
"Jerry Brown’s promotion of continued fossil fuel production, carbon trading markets and other incentives to oil, gas and other polluting corporations, perpetuates climate change and decimates Indigenous communities and Native nations, communities of color and other working class peoples throughout California and around the world.
Such perverse subsidies for “climate capitalism” will turn frontline communities into sacrifice zones for decades to come."
Today's action began at Jessie Park with a march to Moscone Center, the site of the summit. In a return appearance, 1000 Grandmothers Bay Area blocked intersections to create a safe space for the protesters outside the summit.
This weeks actions have been organized by Idle No More SF Bay, Diablo Rising Tide, the Ruckus Society, It Takes Roots, Indigenous Environmental Network, the Sunflower Alliance and Brown's Last Chance.

My dear Canon
Thank you so much for your letter, telling me about your sister. You have all been much in my thoughts and I hope that you and Mrs. Evans have been helped through the long sad strain of this summer. You know how closely I have been with you in spirit - and I doubt if a day passes without my thoughts turning towards you as memories of my happy 8 1/2 years in Warwickshire rise before me. In one sense, you are visibly before me, daily, in that long catalogue of persons and places in the "George Eliot" Dictionary which I am steadily revising, at the compilers' request. I have nearly finished my share in the work, but there are a few points about which I should be most grateful for your help, if you can spare time to give it. For your convenience, I will write out the questions in columns, leaving spaces for whatever you can most kindly send, in the way of answers. I am thankful that this Dictionary is forthcoming- George Eliot as you know, has been my favourite novelist and beloved companion for nearly, (will you believe it?) 40 years, ever since I was given a copy of Middlemarch in 1884 - so I am one who rejoices at the study which her writings attract.
I have been asked to hold the Higher Education classes in English Literature under the County Council for Malvern, for this coming term, and the next, till Easter - and have chqsen my subject,a detailed examination of each of George Eliot's novels and poems, up till Christmas:- and afterwards, the longer poems of Wordsworth (i.e. "Prelude" and "Excursion", with perhaps a few others).
And, as I know you take a very kind, almost Fatherly interest in me, I will tell you what not many know, that I have been asked to preach in Westminster Abbey - though it will indeed be an ordeal!
However, I hope to be helped in this and all else - for what can we do, alone?
With our kindest remembrances and love to you both, and hoping that you are keeping up well, and that you and Mrs. Evans may get some little restful change, away together, somewhere, before Winter sets in,

Have you seen all Miss Mudge's notes on the G.E. characters & places? She ought to submit something to you, before it goes to the press. There are various family statements.

Each year since 1994 the Youth in Arts Program of Marin County has hosted an Italian Street Painting Festival in San Rafael, California. It is a lively event in which 200 chalk artists – modern day madonnari – create large, ephemeral street paintings.
My son Charlie (barleybenton on Flickr) did a fine job photographing the festival in 2008 and 2009 using a camera mounted on a painter’s pole. This year he invited me to come along. This year Charlie is using a Canon SD800is mounted in a new servo-controlled cradle and lofted atop an 11-meter carp pole. The camera is controlled using an Arduino-based system of his own design that allows him to aim the camera with a joystick while watching a video feed. It is a nifty rig that can also make automatic panoramic sweeps with a single command.
Charlie’s approach has been to shoot relatively close views of the chalk art under diffuse light. To do this he waits for the late afternoon hours when neighboring buildings shade the street. In the absence of sharp shadows Charlie’s photographic compositions are nice and clean and thus it is easier to read the chalk works
I decided to work a different thread by shooting from a higher vantage point, often with Panasonic's 18-mm equivalent wide-angle adapter, and doing so when the sun created strong shadows. So this set addresses the general context of the festival and tries to juxtapose the two-dimensional paintings with the three-dimensional crowd.
I have posted an unusually large set of images from the Italian Street Painting Festival in response to queries from passerby and artists who promised to look for them on Flickr.
