A bloom on the wild thistle from last Spring, one of many that
never were posted.... as last year there was a bumper crop
of Texas wildflowers... who doesn't love a reminder of Spring!!!
Ten species of thistles are found in Texas. One of the more common species, Texas thistle (C. texanum), Asteraceae (Sunflower Family), is a prickly, tap-rooted annual that reaches 3 to 5 feet tall. Each plant begins growth as a rosette, or a circular cluster of leaves, during the winter and sends up a flowering stalk in the spring. The leaves are extremely spiny and located alternately along the stems. In some species, the leaf bottom may be woolly with small hairs. Showy purple flowers occur in late spring and summer and mature into a white plume. The seeds scatter profusely in the wind. Although the forage value of thistles is poor for livestock and wildlife, seed-eating birds feed on the seeds of many thistles. Thistles are common in dry or moist soils throughout Texas. They thrive in disturbed or overgrazed areas, in abandoned fields and along roadsides.

I made this card with a stamp set I got from Jennifer for my last HM. I used one of my home made ribbon flowers. I was very excited when I had the idea to make them even though that's nothing special. I'll blog this as well as a tutorial for flowers tomorrow. TFL!

The British Deputy High Commission Kolkata organised a Send-Off Match with Team India North in Kolkata, Tuesday 23 April 2019. The match was organised in association with Save the Children India and The Hope Foundation UK. Rukmini Maitra, Manoj Tiwary and Jhulan Goswami attended the event to cheer the Team India North as they embarked on their journey to play Street Child Cricket World Cup at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.

The bears are part of “Operation Gratitude” and give the children something to hold on to while their parent is on the yearlong deployment. About 30 members of the North Dakota National Guard will serve on the mission to Guantanamo. They were honored during a send-off at the Fargo Armed Forces Reserve Center. (Photo by Pfc.
