One of Santa's secret stores? Staff at the west London branch of a self-storage company overlooking the elevated section of the M4 at Brentford - one of the busiest roads in Britain - are raising a festive smile for thousands of motorists this Christmas. The "S" in their "Self Storage" signs has been switched off to carry a special seasonal message at the building on the A4 Great West Road near the Chiswick Roundabout. And if you've been good all year and not upset the speed cameras, you might even spot Father Christmas himself checking on his presents' store.

And the story is.....
After seeing and photographing this riding lawn mower on-a-pole - I wondered what the story was. There was the Cygnus ministries International on one side, and Sugar Grove Self-Storage on the other. I phoned the self storage place - to get what the story was...
Seems that originally there had been a power equipment place at this location. Also seems that local ordinances required a costly permit to put up a sign - but not a riding lawn mower... thus, they put up the riding lawn mower. As this is (was?) somewhat out in an isolated area, it makes sense that directions would be - continue on route 30 until you see the riding lawn mower on a pole on your {left/right]. When the establishment closed/moved - the pole stayed, and nobody was interested in taking it down.

Galvanised mild steel wire mesh covers the top of every self-storage unit where there is a significant gap between tops of units and ceilings/roof over.
Chocolate Milk and his usual eye for the out of the ordinary caught sight of this sign, it just had to be done!
Since it was the end of the night and I had so much Redbull in my system, it would have been impossible to hold the camera straight, so, out of laziness in not wanting to take out my tripod, I decided to goof around with the shot.
This is just a long exposure and zooming during the exposure..
Now we finally know that this "storage facility" is just a ruse for Santas complex international distribution systems... probobly full of IBM servers.. haha!

The building is said to have been erected circa 1930.

Back in the 1930s this industrial building was a major meat processing plant. Today, it is home to various tenants (self-storage, educational, etc). The building space was greatly enhanced when the west side was expanded.

This show was done by some curatorial students at CCA. They rented a space at a huge storage facility and had artists send in boxes, boxes full of other boxes and rcpts and real and deisgned ephemra.. Each box was part archive and part finished work and it made me reealzie that this is what I DO, maybe even more so than writing. Date samps, card catalogues, colored-coded index cards that relayed text in sets....all based on Buckminster Fuller who documented his life in 15 min intervals. It sounds solipsistic, but I see it as an obsession with the real time loops every self has to function in. if we can clearly see catch ourselves in our own loops, we get a window into everyone else.
