We had just gone tubing down the Apple River in western Wisconsin. Suddenly a torrential rain came out of nowhere and we couldn't do anything but sit there and get wet.
For my lagging (again) 365 project AND my triumphant return to FGR for "Tune Flickr" day!!!!
Trying to catch up here...
So Saturday was the March of Dimes March for Babies. Always one of my favorite charity events.
And in order to qualify for FGR today, I found a great song to go with it...
Ella Fitzgerald sings for the March of Dimes
Now, as for the March for Babies, I put this on my alt shot for today, so I figured I'd put it here too...
Usually I go through a lot of effort to get pledges for it and like to raise lots of money and all that jazz. But this year, I just didn't do anything. And now I feel guilty for it. I still did the walk, but raised only $10. :-( I'm so blessed to have a daughter that is happy and healthy and basically has been her whole life. But when I think that I couldn't raise more than ten freakin dollars to help those that aren't so fortunate, it kind of annoys me. It's my own fault.
So consider this the commercial part of this post: It's not to late to sponsor my walk, even though it's already done. You can go to my March of Dimes page RIGHT HERE ( or at www.marchforbabies.com/bp6316 ) and sponsor me online. You can donate any amount you'd like. The premature babies aren't picky. :-) Or as my friend Greg likes to say, you don't hate sick babies do you? Huh? Do you? If you don't give money, you probably do. ;-)
"The Souvenir Effect. Travel fetishes, beyond the clichés" Highly recommendable exhibition at the Barcelona DHUB. Up to 13/12/09
All this year I've been waiting for that day when I could take the photos I wanted to on campus without the fuss of people seeing me. On a sunny Sunday in June, I finally made it happen (for the most part, it's balls hot outside so I'm gonna do more later.)
My friend, Jeremy, was giving me a present covered in duct tape in this pic. Took quite awhile to open.
Here I am, outside Taiwan's biggest waterfall, laughing at what was a terrible shot I took a few seconds earlier. It's dark, cold, rainy, and my friend (who is shy) and I had an entire tourist attraction to ourselves. There were very few workers and just the two of us wandering around, but there was loud music playing tacky Taiwanese songs blasting throughout the waterfall area.
The "shit weather" tag will come in handy again for today's pictures.
Rural Taiwan is fascinating, and it has interesting sights, sounds and smells. Everyone needs to take a trip.
Tomorrow, I am packing for Thailand and heading out to Bangkok and Chiang Mai with one of my good friends from Seattle. It will be nice to have long talks with one of my favorite conversationalists. Plus, it should be warmer.
Now, if only it wasn't raining so I could dry my laundry. :-/
After Pingxi, we wandered around Taiwan's Storyland, which is very odd. Lots of fun, however. Updates on that one very soon.
I have Ashlee Simpson's single stuck in my head. (Ay Ya Ya!) Tried to make this as eighties as possible, but my wardrobe in this one just wasn't working it for me. Instead I think I made it more American Apparel. That's still okay I guess.
Hope everyone's having a great weekend.

It's a shame that I felt no freedom when I spent my first 18 years of my life here. There is no way I would have been able to go out here without my dad asking why I was out there and what I was doing and what for. Just thinking about it makes me anxious. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore, and that he's been able to fix his problems, at least on the outside.
