Quote borrowed from John Grogan's beautiful book, "Marley and Me." If your family has a dog and you haven't seen the movie yet, SEE IT. I read the book first, but the movie was excellent too. Not just for it's portrayal of what a dog gives to a family, but for it's wonderfully realistic depiction of a marriage, a family and what it's like to raise children with your soul mate. I cry every time I see it, more than once, and I'm no movie cry-er.

[see tags, flickr friends admins, for the why]

lately, i have been thinking about life. my life. others lives. what i want to do with my future. i have visions in my head - how i want to live and i just wonder if i can ever make it happen.

i am thankful for everything i have. my family. the love. the loss. with the loss of one person or thing - i feel i have gained something i could have never had without it. my friends. wealth. health.

i want to do photography - obviously. but maybe something more like photo journalism. i want a job that will allow me to travel and see the world. sometimes i feel so stuck though. like i don't have the means to go to college again. i can't get approved for students loans & no money to pay for it myself.

i want to marry someone with a big heart. someone who wants to travel with me and see the world and learn. i want to have kids and teach them to be selfless and do good in this crazy world. i want my husband and i to join the peace corp and do something to help others - more good than we could probably imagine that we are doing. i want my kids to see other countries - rich & poor. i want them to learn languages. i want them to be exposed to cultures. i want to share these experiences with someone, not alone.

i am so scared i will always be alone. i am scared i won't find that guy to love me and share these things with me. i feel like i've found him but he is miles away and i am too scared to leave this stupid town alone. maybe he isn't as special as i think and i don't know him really well but my heart is telling me something is there. how am i supposed to ignore that?

We are very much like these puppets, our strings are in the

hands of Almighty...

As i look at puppets i see how happily they surrender to

the wish of their master..and play their role on the stage &

yet come out happily !!

Yet they leave smile on everyones face....:)

Question to ourselves here ... are we ready to surrender our

lives to our master..the Almighty ?? and believe everything to

be His wish and come out with smile on our faces..of

contentment..feeling of Divine selfless love and care be it

in rewarding or testing times...???

Love makes it possible to answer all bitter questions and

logic plays of our mind. We become like puppets, change

our habits and moods for person whom we love deeply.

So as a gradual shift before loving Almighty, are we even

committed to love? It is love only which makes one reach God.

True Love is best bliss and then bliss of surrendership is

enhanced..as one leaves total control to Him. Can we control

deep sleep, dreams? Then why not leave control on one who

sees our best?

Loving God...is like loving Air..we know air's impotance yet cannot

feel love for air. To love someone we need that someone in person

live in front of us, and not just abstract concepts. Flower leaves its

fragrance so does God in Human form does it. Have we

smelled it ever???

If yes, then one will love God immediately and His wish will

be our wish as its love now which matters.

My selfless love is Prasangam with living heart:

True love matters....nothing else matters.

Does anything in our life exceed than true love?? If yes

then we (the puppets of time) are also puppets of our

own mind!!!! Think carefully:)

So...Get Beyond Time and Mind; Feel Divinity..seek Divinity.

This mask in particular caught my eye as being a very healing one. Very different and its owner if anything selfless as he wore it.

The elusive Medway container trains escape me time and again. It's not that I haven't even smelt the locomotive in the FUTURO livery yet, I wish that were my problem!!!. To find a photo of one of these trains in my archives I have to resort to this image that I got almost two years ago, on a day when I had the happy idea of following the train to Subijana to photograph it for the second time. That day I had just arrived home after working the night shift and jumped out of bed when I was told that this train was running. The truth is that every day that passes I appreciate more the effort I made that day because otherwise this would be an impossible train for this selfless photographer, who remembers that day with a smile every time he sees the effusive greeting that the driver gave him.

I hope it’s noticeable in my work that, on the whole, I tend to avoid human made objects where ever possible. Lighthouses, however, are my single exception. I struggle to think of a better manifestation of the good in people: they are the concrete embodiment of selflessness, of camaraderie, of solidarity. It’s because of this that, to my mind, they taken on a personality of their own. They remain no matter the weather, doing all possible to warn and potentially save the lives of others.

I’ve seen this place in the best of conditions as well as the worst, but the light here, to my eye at least, somehow hinted at the dangers of the sea and how lighthouses nevertheless stand in the face of it.

76 Years ago today, D-Day, American, British, and Canadian forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. Facing down death, their selfless service helped push back the threat of Fascism, and crushing the Third Reich. Their sacrifices on this pivotal day in history must never be forgotten, and a big thanks goes out to Canadian Pacific for dedicating the 6644 to ensure we will never forget.

Oh my goodness. Squamish is a town full of dogs! Big dogs. Little dogs. Purebreds and breed-unknown dogs.

While it's not common to meet someone actually born here in Squamish you could say the same about our dogs. We have dogs arriving from breeders all over North America and many others rescued predominantly from California, Mexico and South Korea.

The Dutch are a unique mix of selfish and social people. Minor money theft can equal murder in court sanctions. But, on the flip side, private property is not conspicuously fenced off, remarkable examples of individual selflessness are not rare, denunciation is less than in some nearby countries, tolerance is still a big deal, and neither last nor least: rich people are not boastful about their possessions and status. They too of course like wealth and status a lot; but, unlike in NA or Asia, their consciousness seems to moderate the urge to show off, as is often seen elsewhere. Wealth is a private thing and common decency is the ruling standard; the society ethics are strong and broadly participated. They take precedence in most interactions and sympathy for those that are out of the boat is a norm.

God is not something out there, the slum priest had admonished me many times, and all the way to the end of my visits he would continue to do so, gesturing toward the sky or downtown's crazed congestion, repeating it long after I no longer needed convincing.

God is in our selfless action, in the acts of doing and giving and caring, in the smiles and in the laughter and in the kneeling, eye-level comfort. He/She is in the thoughts and words and movements of our everyday, in our friendships, in our families and in our friendships that feel like family.

And God is always found in the soprano voices and free thoughts of small children. He/She is there. We only have to listen.

My ER Nurse wife is here making masks on a Saturday night.

- have seen this postcard was a 1908 postmark...features a cheerful greeting from Santa Claus, accompanied by a charming collection of toys. The number "1166" at the bottom right might be a series number related to their collections.

This is a vintage Christmas postcard featuring Father Christmas. The card depicts Father Christmas in traditional red robes, carrying a horse-on-wheels and other toys in his side pocket. The text at the bottom simply reads "A MERRY CHRISTMAS."

Theme: The card depicts an old-world Father Christmas figure in a long red robe and hat adorned with holly. He carries a toy horse on wheels and has dolls tucked into his pocket, illustrating the traditional benevolent gift-bringer role.

"Old World Father Christmas" refers to the diverse traditional European depictions of the gift-giver that existed before the standardized, jolly, portly American Santa Claus popularized by Coca-Cola advertising in the 1930s. The image in the postcard above is a good example of this older style. Key characteristics of Old World Santa imagery include: Varied Appearance: Unlike the single modern image, Old World Santas varied widely in appearance depending on the region and period. They were depicted as everything from a "tall gaunt man" to an "elflike figure" or a pious, strict figure. Diverse Attire: Robes and clothing colors were not always the now-standard red fur-trimmed suit. They might wear bishop's robes (reflecting the original St. Nicholas), fur-lined robes in green, blue, or brown, and different hats, often a tall mitre or hooded hat instead of a soft cap. The Santa in the image above is wearing a hooded red robe, not a full suit. Accessories: They were often depicted with a walking stick or staff, and sometimes a simple rope or cord belt instead of a modern leather belt. Origin in St. Nicholas: These figures are generally based on the historical Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century Greek bishop known for his generosity and gift-giving to the poor, who is the original inspiration for the legend. Focus on Tradition: The term is now used commercially to describe decorations and art that evoke this vintage, Victorian or European style, emphasizing historical or regional traditions and a sense of nostalgia.

Wearing holly in his cap or as a crown was a very common element of traditional "Old World" Father Christmas depictions, especially in England.

Here is more detail on the tradition: Pagan Origins: The tradition has roots in pre-Christian Celtic and Roman winter solstice festivals, where people (including priests and chieftains) wore holly wreaths or crowns to symbolize eternal life, ward off evil spirits, and celebrate the return of spring. The "Holly King" in Celtic legend, a precursor to Santa, was depicted wearing a crown of holly.

Traditional English Father Christmas: In medieval and early modern England, Father Christmas embodied the spirit of midwinter merriment and nature. He was frequently illustrated with a green hooded cloak and a wreath or sprigs of holly, ivy, or mistletoe on his head, linking him to the evergreen nature of the season.

Christian Symbolism: As Christianity merged with older traditions, the holly's sharp leaves came to symbolize Christ's crown of thorns, and the red berries his blood, making it a prominent religious symbol.

Transition to Modern Santa: Even as the American-influenced Santa Claus image grew in popularity during the Victorian era and early 20th century, many depictions of Father Christmas still included holly, though the full crown became less common and was often replaced with a simple sprig or hood, as seen in your postcard. This incorporation of holly made it a classic visual identifier for the traditional European gift-giver and festive figure.

Symbolism of the Toy Horse - Childhood Joy and Play: The primary symbolism is that of childhood innocence, happiness, and the simple pleasure of receiving a gift at Christmas. The toy horse was a classic children's item across centuries.

Aspiration and Imagination: Horses have long been symbols of strength, freedom, nobility, and adventure. For a child, a toy horse was a means to engage in imaginative play, allowing them to envision themselves on journeys, emulating adults, and exploring their own bravery.

Family Status and Affluence: During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a well-crafted wooden rocking horse or pull-toy, often with detailed carvings, real horsehair tails, and leather saddles, was considered a luxury item. Its presence in the image suggests a family of means that valued traditional, quality toys, reflecting the family's prosperity and good taste.

The Act of Giving: In the context of Santa Claus holding it, the toy horse represents Santa as the benevolent gift-giver, carrying the dreams and material wishes of children, and ensuring that children have the opportunity for play and recreation.

In essence, the toy horse in this vintage image is more than just a toy; it is a powerful nostalgic symbol of an idealized childhood and the enduring values of hope and connection during the holiday season.

Symbolism Explained:

Sack of Toys: The sack (or basket) is a universal symbol of the gift-giver's generosity. In older, European traditions (such as those involving figures like Krampus or Belsnickel), the sack sometimes served a dual purpose: carrying toys for good children, but also threatening to carry off or punish the naughty ones, embodying a "carrot-and-stick" approach to child discipline.

Doll: Dolls were a very popular and desirable Christmas gift for girls in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed to teach them about motherhood and domesticity, reflecting the societal values of the time. Its presence signifies a gift for a good girl and highlights the innocence of childhood.

Horn (Trumpet): The toy horn, or trumpet, was another common and simple toy that was popular with children of that era. It represents simple joy, play, and often announced the arrival of Santa or the general festivity of the season.

Thick Rope Belt (Cincture): The rope belt, often called a cincture, has significant religious symbolism, linking the secular Santa figure back to his origins as the historical Saint Nicholas. It is directly inspired by the simple rope belts worn by Catholic religious orders, particularly the Franciscans. This choice of simple attire over a fine leather belt was a symbol of the vow of poverty and humility taken by these holy figures, a clear example of their precepts. It grounds the magical figure in a tradition of pious giving and selflessness. These elements work together to paint a picture of a traditional, humble, and generous figure rooted deeply in both Christian and folk traditions, before the modern standardized image took hold.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Postcard publisher: The postcard publisher in 1908 was primarily known as Robbins Brothers (or Robbins Bros. or The Robbins Bros. Co.), based in Boston, Massachusetts. Some sources also mention the name as H.I. Robbins or M.I. Robbins, suggesting a potential individual name behind the business or different branches/divisions.

Key details about the publisher: Location: Boston, Massachusetts. Active Period: The company was active during the "Divided Back" era of postcards (c. 1907–1915), with many postcards postmarked or published around 1907-1908.

Printing Location: Many of their postcards, particularly the view cards, were "Printed in Germany," which was common for high-quality lithograph postcards of that time.

Products: They published a wide variety of postcards, including:

US State & Town views.

Holiday greetings (e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter).

Embossed and gilt postcards.

Artistic and romantic themed cards.

Notable Works: They are known for their "Quality Line" postcards and published numerous view cards of towns, cities, and specific landmarks, such as railroad depots and local streets. Many of their postcards were manufactured in Germany, a common practice at the time for high-quality printing.

To be manly is not to hold on tightly, but to hold on firmly... ♥

" In the past, I thought that love meant giving up, sacrificing our dreams and goals to be with you and to make 'us' work.

But as we've grown together, I've learned that true love is supporting each other's aspirations and passions. I don't want to just love 'us' anymore, I want to love 'you' better for everything that makes you uniquely you. Your dreams, your goals, and your interests became just as important to me as my own, because when you're happy, I'm happy. And that's what 'I love you' is all about.

So let's keep building each other up and chasing our dreams together, because with you by my side, anything is possible. I love you more than words could ever express, my sweet Hansen "

Poem: Space makes us closer

Your love is like a gentle breeze

That brings me strength and eases

All my worries and my fears

And dries away my tears

In the past, I thought we needed

To be close, always unheeded

Were our dreams and aspirations

As we focused on our relations

But now, we've learned to be strong

To support each other all along

We give each other space and time

And our love has reached its prime

Your love brings me strength to carry on,

And conquer all that life may spawn.

Even when we are apart,

Our love remains strong, a beating heart.

For when we give without hesitation or demand,

Our love grows stronger, hand in hand.

As we embrace this selfless way,

Our love blossoms more with each passing day.

So let's keep pursuing our dreams,

And lifting each other up, it seems,

Our love will only grow more profound,

As we learn to give each other space, unbound.

In the early 1980s, His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji began His divine saga to inspire the masses and motivate them to render selfless service to the society. With His benign grace, He bestowed Brahm Gyan–the Eternal Knowledge to people. This Knowledge awakens the spiritual self within an individual. In effect, it paves way to re-establish human values in the society. He has brought together millions of people, and guided them how to infuse moral values in the society. In 1991, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan was registered as a non-governmental charitable society for the promotion of social welfare and development of benevolent society.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting up with Tracy & Jason from www.73in73.com who are two very amazing individuals who are visiting 73 unique locations in the Peak District in 73 consecutive days raising money for some amazing people and charities.

I can’t even begin to tell you what an amazing couple they are. Strong willed, determined and so so selfless. I’m truly honoured and humbled to have met them.

Please head on over to their website, social media pages and follow them as they are currently 50% through the locations and they need all the motivation & support they can get!

We meet up down at the car park and headed up on top of Dovestone Rocks which look out over the reservoir, we had both been up to the Trinnacle before but not over to the rocks as it’s on the opersite side of the valley, I was looking forward to visiting somewhere new! The landscape up here is something else, rugged and wild you can’t help but like it. We arrived in plenty of time and had a chat and admired the views, and then after the sun had set walked down in the dark.

And I’ll leave you with those addresses so you can go check out their progress:

The Battle of Britain Memorial, Capel-Le-Ferne, Kent, England

The National Memorial to the Few

Dedicated to the heroic and selfless deeds of the men who won the Battle of Britain, 10 July to 31 October, 1940.

"On top of the world" makes me think celestial. I always loved space. Loved visits to the Griffith Park Observatory as a child. So I am reminded of the recent UFO sighting in Texas that has zero explanation. Some call me crazy here, but I think it's crazy to think we're alone in this vast universe. Sure, the laws of physics apply to us all, Earthling or whatever. So getting here would be rather advanced and fairly mighty--way more mighty than us guys are capable of who thought we were being overtaken by communists when a poor dog got shot to the moon not that long ago.

But if you listen to the news for about five minutes: senseless war, senseless hatred, senseless cruelty, senseless desire for power and money (or hey, just listen to our President for five minutes!) it becomes obvious that, although human kind has made some pretty amazing advances over time and figured out some complicated stuff (hundreds of year ago even) and have created some breathtaking art and committed acts of beauty and humility and selflessness, we're just not there. We just don't have the stuff yet. Hey, women in other countries are still covered head to toe by men who are afraid of their power. Today is MLK day and it reminds me of how racism rears its ugly head so easily. Once again, all because we're afraid of others. Afraid of what we don't know and what power others may have over us.

Yeah sure. Large multi-eyed aliens come here with big lasers or phasers or whatever and take us over in seconds and eat our heads. Sure, could be that scenario. But perhaps not. Perhaps they're just like us, only from a graduating class a few millennia earlier. You know, class of 10,000--except we call that 250 BC. And maybe they figured it out and checking out their galaxial neighbors to see what's up over in our end.

So, outside on this beautiful, sunny and still chilly Seattle day went me and the camera, in search of. I didn't even see a plane today (flight paths), but I did convene with a bunch of chicadees. That tree over my head is full of them, chirping loudly, chatting. Hmmmm. Maybe...maybe. Something to consider.

" Her admiration grows for only him, who safeguards her freedom, allowing her to chase her dreams without woes, drama, or strife, in their journey together as one team...💕 "

Poem: With him, there's no need for fear

He catches her with gentle ease,

Like a soft sand that cushions her knees,

With every learning fall she takes,

His love supports her, never shakes.

With him, there's no need for fear,

For his support is always near.

No concrete path to hurt her soul,

His love and strength make her whole.

He stands by her, a steady guide,

Her falls never cause her to hide,

With him, there's no concrete ground,

To cause her pain when she falls down.

Through every challenge and test,

He guides her with his loving best.

In his arms, she finds her rest,

A love that stands the toughest test.

His love, a shelter in the storm,

A safe haven to keep her warm,

With him, she can conquer all,

For his love is the soft sand to catch her fall.

Poem: A strong man's love

A strong man's love is more than flesh,

He holds her dreams with gentle caress.

Her happiness and freedom he cherishes too,

For his love for her is deep and true.

With his strength, her heart finds peace,

His love for her, a love that won't cease.

Status and labels, he leaves them behind,

For his love for her, pure and kind.

He said, "Ring and collar are for the insecure one,

Not for a strong-minded man, like me, hon."

His love is secure, deeper than any label or tag,

For he knows their bond is stronger than any rag.

He won't mark her spirit, for he loves her freedom,

He knows that possessing her will only lead to boredom.

His love is pure, and his heart is true,

For his love for her is endless, and forever new.

He knows her spirit is wild and free,

A force that cannot be tamed or owned,

He loves her for who she truly is,

And won't let a label bring her down.

He sees her as his equal partner,

Not someone to possess or control,

His love for her is pure and strong,

A bond that cannot be bought or sold.

Poem: The man who stands taller

In wisdom's tower, he finds his might,

And stands taller, with love as his light.

With a heart full of kindness and grace,

He lifts others up, to a better place.

He stands tall, a man of strength and might,

Not because he holds her body tight,

But because he values her freedom and soul,

And with his secure mind, he makes her whole.

He sees beyond the shallow labels and rings,

And into the depth of what true love brings.

His love is pure, selfless, and true,

With him, she feels safe, loved, and free to pursue.

He stands strong in his love, secure and wise,

No need for possession or marking ties.

He cherishes her for who she is,

And with his love, he fills her with bliss.

He stands taller because he knows,

That true love is not about possession or control.

It's about freeing her spirit to soar,

And being by her side forevermore.

Oh goodness, where to even begin! The last month has literally been the most jam-packed, yet life changing month of my life. I have seen all my friends put their talents together for an amazing cause, which is going to surface in February- an amazing opportunity for me to use my art for the good of others. I have finally been reunited with my friends from all over the world at the L.A. Flickr Gathering, hosted by the inspiring and selfless David Talley (to see images from everyone at the gathering, check out this group: LAFG 2013. I have seen so many places I have always wanted to see and met so many incredibly talented individuals. I am now at a place of reflection for the next few days where I literally feel like a shipwrecked lover. So much has happened in such a short time that I've been left spinning, clinging to those around me with a heavy heart, wondering how so much good could happen to me, while so much tragedy exists in the world. I truly feel blessed beyond my years, and cannot wait to see where the next year takes me and all of my friends.

Modeling here with me, is my good friend Sarah Loreth. Please be sure to give her page a look, as well as the people who helped make this photo possible below:

Voices trapped in yearning

Memories trapped in time

In the Garden of the Goddess

The blazing eye of Dawn is all to fools:

those who see the joy

in Light expressed as Light,

but brightness also graces Night.

Her veil parted, the black curtain

giving way to shades of blue and gold,

Her rapturous embrace inspiring eyes beholden.

Planted in Her garden, neighboring eaves

rustling in their trembling eagerness to share their leaves!

For in Her realm eternal, flawless

clay of earth and blade of grass

stretch forth to feel the loving light

of their supernal Goddess!

Her joy ran rampant through my boughs,

my swaying branches spreading wide

to grasp the rays of her horizon --

With love untainted as a child's, so boundless

as my selfless roots cried out to sing her praises soundless!

No dalliance ever felt before complete

until this blessed revelation -

this, Her holy emanation, warmed my heart,

annulled my restless reason:

She was every mother: deepest love

in understanding all that came of Her,

enclosing us within the circular.

*She beckoned but a moment by Her brilliance; best,

lest I uprooted trunk and earth to shade Her manifest.

I went to go to the wild side of the Ardnamurchan peninsula and noticed these five, small feathers stuck to the car door. There was something in the composition I liked so I grabbed the shot. I had no idea how they came to be stuck to the car door like this. Later I was chuntering over 'five feathers' convinced I had read some war story, involving spies, called the Five Feathers. Googling it I found there is a book of that name, but this is how it is described:

Five Feathers is a delightfully illustrated book about a selfless little bird who generously gives away his five magical tail feathers to help those in need: a frigid bunny, a frightened doe, an injured beaver, a saddened little girl, and an alarmed mother possum, and in the end he himself receives a marvelous transformation. It is a tale of open hearted generosity. In a time when we are being asked to step up ever more frequently to help those in need, it is a good lesson for children and adults alike. Parents, grandparents, and anyone who loves children will want to give this as a gift, and read it often.

I'm waiting on the empty docks

Watching the ships come in

I'm waiting for the agony to stop

Oh, let the happiness in

I'm watching as the gulls all settle down

Upon the empty vessels

The faded whites of their wedding gowns

The songs of hopeless selflessness

The cold December Sun

A cold that blisters

The hands of a working man

Wasted

I'm waiting on the empty docks

Watching the ships roll in

I'm waiting for the agony to stop

Oh, let the happiness in

Oh, let the happiness in

Oh, let the happiness in

Listen to the waves against the rocks

I don't know where they've been

I'm waiting for the sky to open up

And let the happiness in

Oh, let the happiness in

Oh, let the happiness in

'Cause it's coming

Coming home

Let the happiness in

Oh, let the happiness in

'Cause it's coming

Coming on, calling home

Oh, let the happiness in

'Cause it's coming, coming home

Oh, let the happiness in

Sometimes a simple photo expedition can teach you so many things - about yourself, and others, and about what really matters in life. Suffice it to say that somehow I miraculously ended up with someone who is incredibly kind and selfless and patient, and though I may not be worthy of that, I'll gladly spend the rest of my days trying to be.

I did not take these photos. They were on a Facebook post I saw today along with the following narrative. I was so moved by it that I decided to share it here, too.

"I saw these images on @timkennedymma feed. Please, look at each one. Pause, give them your consideration. America’s exceptional armed forces have altered the course of the world for the better. From the Union Army defeating slave owning confederates, to the Greatest Generation and her Allies vanquishing the Nazis or our special operators hunting down the perpetrators of 9/11. We count the names of each fallen solider lest they be countless. They are the good guys. They run to the sound of gunfire. They know pain and suffering we never will. They have given us the most free and decent society planet earth has ever seen. We run the risk of losing that decency when we fail to instill gratitude in the minds of our youth or the perspective of what it actually means to be free- should they never learn of the selfless sacrifice of our armed service members in the face of oppressive evil. So join me in showing support for our fallen. Take a quiet moment to really consider the sacrifice. And if you use the comments section on posts like this to bitch and moan about America please understand there are countries in the world where criticizing your government will get you killed or imprisoned. Criticism is a right and necessity in amending the flawed systems of man. So by all means, let your voice be heard. But never forget your right to free expression is paid for in blood. May God give their souls rest, and may they live in our memories this weekend and always."

Mavis Henslow was a woman of exceptional lineage, descended from a long line of noteworthy individuals. Her 25th great-great grandfather was none other than the renowned English theatre proprietor and manager of the Elizabethan Age, Philip Henslowe. Such a heritage bestowed upon Mavis a connection to the arts and the power of expression.

Despite her impressive lineage, Mavis faced societal limitations as a woman in her time. Born into an era when gender roles were rigidly defined, she encountered numerous obstacles that restricted her aspirations. However, Mavis possessed an unwavering spirit that refused to be stifled by these constraints.

Mavis received her education from a dedicated governess who recognised her thirst for knowledge and the innate intelligence that resided within her. Through the governess's guidance, Mavis embarked on a journey of learning and self-discovery, delving into various subjects that ignited her curiosity.

As Mavis grew older, she discovered her gift for healing and became fascinated by spiritualism. Her studies and experiences led her to develop profound abilities in these realms, transcending the boundaries of traditional understanding. Mavis could perceive energies, offer solace to those in pain, and provide comfort to the spiritually seeking.

With her remarkable abilities, Mavis had the potential to become a world-renowned figure in the field of healing and spiritualism. Yet, she chose a different path, one that was characterised by privacy and humility. Mavis shunned the allure of fame and the accompanying public adulation, preferring instead to focus on her purpose, helping others without seeking personal acclaim.

Throughout her life, Mavis dedicated herself to aiding those in need, utilising her healing talents and spiritual insights to bring solace and enlightenment to countless individuals. Her gentle demeanour, compassionate nature, and profound wisdom made her a cherished figure within her community.

While Mavis's contributions to the world may not have garnered global recognition, the lives she touched, the souls she healed, and the minds she inspired were immeasurable. She left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mavis's extraordinary journey serves as a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and selflessness. Despite the limitations placed upon her by society, she overcame obstacles and harnessed her unique gifts for the betterment of others. Mavis, an extraordinary woman, showed the world that true greatness lies not in fame or accolades but in the profound impact one has on the lives of those around them.

Tale: The difference between Love and Obsession

The distinction between love and obsession lies in how you handle your affection and how you treat the thing you care about.

When you truly love a flower, you nurture and tend to it to promote its optimal growth, rather than cutting it down and possessing it.

This contrast between finding Happiness in watching it flourish and Happiness from claiming it as your own indicates your selfless or selfish inclinations towards love.

ღ.-:**★**:-.ღ.-:**★**:-.ღ.-:**★**:-.ღ

" Possessing things obsessively and labeling them as yours doesn't define your self-worth or make you stronger. Instead, it can reveal your dependence, lack of confidence, and insecurity.

Release the urge to possess, and explore your inner strength and genuine self-worth by seeking happiness beyond ownership. Don't rely on shallow labels for validation. "

PADDY, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: "Hullo Scout! Hullo Emmett!"

SCOUT: "Oh! Hullo Paddy, Jago and Daisy-Maud!"

EMMETT: "Hullo Daisy-Maud, Jago and Paddy! Daisy-Maud, may I have a cuddle?"

DAISY-MAUD: "Of course you may, Emmett!" *Cuddles Emmett.*

EMMETT: "Thank you Daisy-Maud! You give the best hugs."

PADDY: "What are you doing, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Oh Emmett and I are writing our Christmas lists for Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear."

PADDY: "That is very oranised, Scout."

SCOUT: "Well, you cannot be too prepared for Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear, Paddy!" *Nods seriously.* "Especially when it comes to wishes!"

JAGO: "Scout's list looks quite long Daisy-Maud." *Peers at Scout's Christmas list.*

DAISY-MAUD: *Whispers.* "Yes, but Emmett's page is blank." *Peers at Emmett's page with concern.*

PADDY: "Let's see what is on your list, Scout." *Looks at Scout's list.* "Tutus, a Red Riding Hood teapot like Mama Kim's." *Looks at Scout in alarm.*

SCOUT: "What?!?!"

PADDY: "Daddy gave that teapot especially to Mama Kim, Scout!"

SCOUT: "Well, he should have given it to me instead, Paddy!"

*Nods emphatically.*

PADDY: "I'm not sure that is how it works, Scout."

SCOUT: "Well, it should do, Paddy." *Nods more.*

PADDY: "Well, let's keep going through your list. Tutus." *Pauses.* "Oh I think you might have made a mistake, Scout."

SCOUT: "Me!" *Horrified.* "A mistake?" *Indignant.* "Never!"

PADDY: "Well, you have listed tutus twice, Scout."

SCOUT: "No I haven't, Paddy!" *Shakes head.*

PADDY: "Yes you have, Scout, at number one and number three on your list." *Points to entries on the list with paw.*

SCOUT: "No I haven't, Paddy!" *Shakes head more.*

PADDY: "Yes you have, Scout!" *Points again.* "Look there!"

SCOUT: "I don't need to look at my list to know that I haven't listed tutus twce, Paddy!" *Shakes head.* "I have listed tutus four times! They are also at number five and number seven on my list."

PADDY: "But why, Scout? Surely once is enough."

SCOUT: "No it isn't Paddy! Father Christmas is quite ancient, like you, and the Christmas Bear is very busy helping make up for Father Christmas' ancientness! If they skim read my list they may miss that I want tutus if I only list it once."

PADDY: "Oh!" *Surprised.*

DAISY-MAUD: "Umm... Scout," *Tentatively.* "Chocolate isn't spelt like that."

SCOUT: "What?"

DAISY-MAUD: "On your list, Scout: you have spelt chocolate incorrectly."

SCOUT: "Oh pooh!" *Disappointed.* "Well, I'm sure the Christmas Bear can work out that I am asking for chocolate. He's a very smart bear, you know, Daisy-Maud."

DAISY-MAUD: "Oh I know, Scout."

JAGO: "But Emmett, your list is empty."

PADDY: "Empty, Emmett?" *Alarmed.*

EMMETT: "I know, Jago and Paddy." *Smiles happily.*

PADDY: "But why, Emmett?"

DAISY-MAUD: "Don't you want anything nice from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear, Emmett?"

EMMETT: *Shakes head.*

JAGO: "Isn't there something you are wishing for, Emmett?"

EMMETT: "What could I possibly wish for, Jago, that I don't already have? I have everything I need, or ever wished for right here."

JAGO: "You have, Emmett?"

EMMETT: "Yes, Jago!" *Smiles broadly. "When I was in the orphanage for bears in Shropshire, I had many bear friends, and there was plenty of food to fill my grumbly tummy, so I was quite happy. However, all I wished for, juts like everybear there, was to have a Mummy or Daddy of my very own to love me and give me kisses and cuddles."

PADDY: "And now you have that with Daddy!"

EMMETT: "Yes, Paddy! I do! I'm so happy now! And if that weren't enough, I have a family with all of you, and I have a best friend in Funky at Mummy Marian's house! I have everything I have ever dreamed of, and ever so much more!"

DAISY-MAUD: "Oh Emmett!" *Tears well in eyes.* "That is so lovely! I am so touched. I shall give you another cuddle just for that!"

EMMETT: "Oh I'd like that Daisy-Maud!"

DAISY-MAUD: *Cuddles Emmett.*

SCOUT: "There must be something you want, Emmett! I can't have a full list, and you have nothing on yours!"

EMMETT: "But I just said, Scout, I don't need anything."

JAGO: "Well, perhaps you would like some sweets like Scout has on his list."

DAISY-MAUD: "Or chocolates."

PADDY: "Or tutus."

SCOUT: "Paddy no!" *Alarmed. * "Emmett can't ask for tutus, too!" *Shakes head vehmently.* "Rosie and I are asking for tutus, and I'm sure there are only so many tutus to go around!" *Concerned.* "I don't want to miss out!"

PADDY: "Alright Scout. Not tutus, Emmett."

DAISY-MAUD: "There must be something that you want, deep in your heart of hearts, Emmett."

EMMETT: *Sighs deeply.* "Well, there is one thing I'd love."

PADDY, DAISY-MAUD, JAGO and SCOUT: "What Emmett?"

EMMETT: *Sighs again.* "Well, I had a friend at the orphanage for bears in Shropshire called Edgar. I sometimes wish that Edgar was here too. I wish I could share all that I have with him. He is a very lovely, softly spoken bear who wears a pretty floral bow tie. He is very kind and gentle, and I know he would love all of you, and you would love him. I also know he would love my best friend Funky, and Funky would love Edgar too!"

PADDY: "Well, why don't you put that on your list, Emmett?"

JAGO: "Yes, a capital idea, Emmett!"

DAISY-MAUD: "I agree, Emmett."

EMMETT: "Oh, I couldn't ask Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear to bring Edgar all the way here, Paddy, JAGO and Daisy-Maud! They will be far too busy filling Scout's wishes, and Rosie's and all of yours!"

DAISY-MAUD: "Well, there is no harm in asking, Emmett."

SCOUT: "I think you should write it down, Emmett. I think it would be a good idea. It's almost as good an idea as me asking for tutus and a Little Red Riding Hood teapot like Mama Kim's!"

JAGO: "I think you should write it on your list."

EMMETT: "Edgar and I had a friend called Benjamin. Do you think I would be greedy if I asked Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear to bring him to Daddy's house too?"

DAISY-MAUD: "No, I don't think so, Emmett. In fact, I think that Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear would be pleased that you have been so selfless in your wish, Emmett."

SCOUT: "Are you suggesting that I am being selfish, asking Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear for tutus and a Little Red Riding Hood teapot like Mama Kim's, Daisy-Maud?" *Indigant.*

DAISY-MAUD: "Oh no, Scout!" *Shakes head.* "All I am suggesting is that your list is more... err... what Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear would expect from little bears around the world, whereas Emmett's wish is a little bit different to the usual."

SCOUT: "Gosh! I hope that lots of bears around the world don't ask for tutus, or there will be a tutu shortage!" *Puts paw to mouth in concern.*

DAISY-MAUD: "I'm sure you won't miss out, sweet Scout."

JAGO: "Emmett, write down on the top of your list that you wish for Edgar and... and... what is the other bear's name again?"

EMMETT: "Benjamin, Jago!"

JAGO: "Thank you! Write down on your list that you would like Edgar and Benjamin to come and stay here with you, at Daddy's house."

DAISY-MAUD: "Yes do, Emmett!"

SCOUT: "Just don't write down tutus on your list, Emmett."

EMMETT: "Not even if I write down that I wish for you to have them, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Best not risk it, Emmett." *Shakes head.*

EMMETT: *Writes that he would like Edgar and Benjamin to come and live with him at Daddy's house.*

JAGO: "Well done, Emmett."

DAISY-MAUD: "Indeed, very well done, sweet Emmett."

EMMETT: "But Paddy, what if Daddy doesn't like Edgar and Benjamin coming to stay with us?"

PADDY: "That won't happen if Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear fulfil your wish, Emmett." *Shakes head.*

EMMETT: "But how do you know, Paddy?"

PADDY: "Because Daddy has a saying, Emmett."

EMMETT: "What is it, Paddy?"

PADDY, SCOUT, DAISY-MAUD and JAGO: "There is always room for one more bear!"

EMMETT: "But Edgar and Benjamin and two bears!"

PADDY: "There is always room for two more bears!" *Nods emphatically.*

Scout's Christmas present from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear in 2022 was a beautiful 1930s Little Red Riding Hood tea set for six. It was made by an unknown maker in Stoke-on-Trent. Not all the set is being used today. It features beautiful, brightly coloured transfers of different parts of the faerie tale.

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.

Daisy Maud is Jago's little sister and was made by the same friend in England who made him. She is made of German mohair with floral fabric cotton paw pads that match her pretty sunhat, and glass eyes. A sweet and loving little girl bear, she is happy to be reunited with her big brother, Jago, and enjoys being spoiled by her new Daddy.

Made by Merrythought in England, Emmett is a charming little bear, sweet and smiling, crafted from multi-tonal marl grey mohair and featuring golden velvet paws. He is accessorised with a classic tartan woollen scarf. He is number 23 or a limited worldwide edition of 200.

"The people of Latvia are thankful to the medics in Latvia and all over the world for their selfless service during the COVID-19 pandemic and have put up a monument by a famous Latvian artist to health care personnel, supported by donations of almost 20 local companies," said a release from the organizers of the initiative.

The six-meter-high sculpture "Medics to the World" shows a female medic who has just come out of the treatment room and is getting ready for her next shift.

I am not prepared to bury my head in the sand and pretend that everything is alright when it is in fact the opposite.

I am not prepared to turn and walk away when I know that I should stand and face it all.

I am not prepared to close my eyes to unpleasant things and to stand by without taking action when needed to save a life.

Eustache de Saint-Pierre was the oldest of the six burghers and the first to volunteer to sacrifice to save his native city. The Calais city council originally suggested this figure as the focus of Rodin's monument, but the artist chose to give all five burghers equal stature.

The historical narrative states that the surrendering burghers wore shirts and breeches, but Rodin decided to clad his figures in nonspecific drapery.Their timeless appearance contributes to the monument's function as a broader symbol of selfless patriotic heroism-Brooklyn Museum
