A group from Lutheran Church of the Cross and Pillager Boy Scout Troop planted 1,200 seedlings in the campground area at Gull Lake, near Brainerd, Minn. Volunteers are essential to the St. Paul District’s mission. My selfless quest continues! Granada is one of the last bastions of free tapas and, apparently, has over 500 bars - possibly urban legend, but I'll accept that figure for now! Herewith continues my attempt to visit and photograph every single bar & cafe.
Castañeda has to be one of the most popular destinations in Granada for ambiance and tapas. I caught it here on an unusually quiet day. Expect a jolly, noisy mixed crowd of locals and tourists. But terrific free tapas, too.

Matt (on left) and I were both laid off from the same technology company last year. Strobist info: We took this photo in Matt's basement against a plain beige wall, so I wanted to create a gradient on the backdrop from left to right, then from right to left on the subject. Also to add some color with a gel to help the beige wall. It was a lot more difficult than I thought.
For the background:
An SB-600 is on the floor, mounted on a gorillapod SLR, with a flag somewhere around the area of Matt's head, to block the light from spilling to the right. The SB-600 has a light pink gel that I thought would work with his skin tone. I lost track of the flash power on the rear wall because I had to keep adjusting it due to the flag, the gel, moving it closer and farther away ... I have a lot to learn about doing this kind of setup right without so much futzing.
Matt is lit with an umbrella to the right at 45 degrees just off camera using a LumoPro flash at around 1/8th power. My exposure looks a little different just because of where Matt stood when taking my picture
Exposure was f2, 1/180th, 50mm lens.
Cactus triggers were used to control the flashes.

The Mahavatar Babaji celebration started with evening prayers, which was then followed by abhishekam and Guruji's satsang.
Mahavatar Babaji day commemorates the selfless service this mystical yogi gives to all mankind, and his promise to continue this service on the planet until all are awakened. He gives continually to all of humanity, however, Guruji reminded us all during His satsang that we should do our part and strive to awaken from the deep sleep state we have carried with us for countless lives. (The saints are never in a state of sleeping, regardless of how they might look on the outside.)
Guruji continued by saying that when the satguru comes into one's life, he breaks the conditioning of the mind where we think the outside relationships are real. The outside is just a formality. What matters is the true, sincere, burning of the heart for God, just like Mirabai had, for example.
The role of the satguru is to unlock the way of love. He reveals himself through that Prem and infuses one with that grace and gives himself to the bhakta. It is only through Prem, that ultimate love, that one can enter the domain of Sri Hari. Guruji reminded us to live our lives as if God is present every day with us (because He is)!

Army Music Hawaii, 25th Infantry Division band, preformed a historical note titled Legacy of Honor, which honors Soldiers of the past, present, and future for their selfless service and sacrifices to the nation, during a concert at Fort DeRussy, June 9. The concert featured band members and volunteers in Army period costumes, a patriotic musical selection and dancers from the Ha'a Hui dance group. The concert is part of a weeklong celebration, Pacific Theater Army Week, which commemorates the Army’s 240th birthday.
