It's that time when we remember those who have fallen, giving their lives so selflessly.

I can't believe that a few years back I wondered if the practice of remembering in this way would die out because active conflicts seemed so much in the past.

Sadly we have not forgotten how to become embroiled in violent conflict and war. Today the 221st British soldier lost his life in Afghanistan.

We remember through our tears and pray for peace.

It reminds us of all our other experiences of loss - and sometimes we can only see the beauty through a veil of tears...

I am leaving so many folks out who came to our aid, but want to recognize those who came and helped in the middle of the night, and those who moved the critters out, housed them, and helped move them back. I was overwhelmed beyond words at the outpouring of selfless effort and compassion during this time.

Taken in 2013 at the home in Kahala where the owner filled the front of his property (the part facing the street) with Roman-esque statues. His neighbors got really upset, and eventually he removed the statues, which I thought was too bad. He also sold the property to someone who kept it safely boring, which I thought was good riddance to his prudish neighbors.

I finally find the words for something that I had wanted to express in an older article about altruism. It dawned on me when I saw a post of some kind of coach who had given blood for kids. He was proud.

Knight of Jewels is IC Catholic Prep’s (ICCP) premier fundraising event. This event provides over $250,000 in funding for our students and their education each year. Knight of Jewels began nearly 50 years ago when parents and school supporters joined together to ensure that IC remained a pillar of spiritual and educational enlightenment in and around the Elmhurst community. Join us in this tradition of philanthropy.

ICCP is a dynamic college preparatory, Catholic, learning community that develops the whole person and inspires critical thinking. We celebrate the Catholic tradition of community and service while preparing our students to lead confidently and selflessly throughout life.

There were many selfless individuals at Ochsner and our partners MedAssets

who worked tirelessly during our relief efforts and continue to do so even today. Mr. John Bardis and the entire MedAssets family provided us with the use of the company plane to make multiple trips that allowed us to bring much needed medicines and supplies to the victims when getting into the country was a challenge.

The Story of the SELFLESS ROCKS(iPhone); Once upon a time, a tiny stone buried under the chaotic rubble of larger rocks on the beach dreamt of seeing/experiencing the LIGHT. The little rock was grateful to hear the crashing waves and the occasional squawks of the seagulls. It hoped perhaps one day, a beach walking human will pick it up from deep within, so that it can see the LIGHT. The five wise and selfless big rocks around the vicinity heard the little stone's ply, and delicately balanced themselves, so that the little rock could bravely climb on and SEE the LIGHT. Oh it was so glorious, the tiny rock gasped at the sight of the brilliant effulgence. In that moment, for some reason this little rock let go of all inner-resistance and it's past trauma. It became ONE with the LIGHT. All the surrounding rocks gasped at the strange phenomenon, as this had never happened or even heard of. The light shone brightly from the little rock to all, and the five wise rocks also experienced ONENESS. There were no longer separate, but they stood like a strong tower radiating LIGHT to all.

Can we be the like the rocks? Helping one another to achieve excellence and find the LIGHT within? The quality of SELFLESS LOVE will automatically lead us to LOVE & LIGHT. Then we become beacons of LOVE and LIGHT. The rocks told me this story on the beach...

superstitious or selfless love or selfish love.. Damn confusing..

Man may travel far and wide or establishes a second home beyond the borders of his native land; Yet at the twilight years of life, he will travel back on the long road to the old Home where he spent the first 7 years of his childhood from the time he was born. - wilfredosrb

Everyman in his second childhood forgets all material things. His wife, children and grandchildren are mere friends and playmates. He remembers only the years as a child below 7 yrs of age and going home to the place where he was born.

Robert Frost, an American poet, wrote "Where Are The Old Men?", re-living in poetic lines the men who left England on the MayFlower. The men with their family who worked in American plantations until their old age. No one saw them leave, died and buried in American soil . . . -wilfredosrb
