Michael Singer
RIP Mike. When you covered me with your own body while putting me on the med-evac chopper it was the most selfless act of bravery I've ever experienced. Semper Fi, Marine
Lt Rick
Silver Star Citation: The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Michael Ernest Singer (MCSN: 2367488), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as an Artillery Forward Observer with Company D, First Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 5 July 1968, Private First Class Singer was manning an observation post at the Company D defensive position on Hill 689 in the vicinity of Khe Sanh when a patrol moved forward of the perimeter. Advancing approximately 100 meters, the patrol suddenly came under intense automatic weapons fire from a large North Vietnamese Army force and sustained numerous casualties. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Private First Class Singer unhesitatingly left his covered position and ran across the fire-swept area where he began assisting the wounded to the relative safety of the perimeter. Undaunted by the accurate hostile fire impacting around him, he repeatedly moved forward and assisted in evacuating his wounded comrades to covered positions. Although wounded twice, he refused to be medically evacuated in order to remain with his besieged company. On the night of 7 July, the enemy launched an intensive barrage of automatic weapons and mortar fire on his company's position. Concerned only for the welfare of his comrades, Private First Class Singer fearlessly exposed himself to enemy fire as he carried wounded Marines to positions of relative safety. While assisting a casualty to a more covered area, Private First Class Singer was mortally wounded by the enemy fire. His heroic actions and sincere concern for the safety of his comrades inspired all who observed him and undoubtedly saved the lives of several Marines. By his courage, bold initiative and selfless devotion to duty, Private First Class Singer upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country

Arthur Boke Jr. was the first African-American resident of Franklinton, Ohio. His story tells far more than the color of his skin. It is a story of love, selflessness, compassion, and understanding expressed by Sarah Sullivant. Her example reaches out to humanity with a mother's pure love that accepts all human beings as equal, who share each other's burdens, listen to each other's stories, and learn what it is to live in harmony.
It was Sarah Sullivant, who with her husband Lucas -- founder of Columbus, made the story of Arthur Boke Jr.
In 1803, Sarah had just given birth to a son, when several days later she found at her doorstep an abandoned baby of a slave. It is what happened next that lifts the story into the rare.
Sarah, filled with the love for her own new-born son, could not bear to leave the abandoned baby without help. Urged on by a humanity very seldom seen in those days, she took the baby, and along with her own new son, nursed both to a strong and healthy childhood.
Named Arthur Boke Jr. by the Sullivants, the baby was adopted by the family and lived as son and brother until his passing in 1841. The Sullivant children, especially Joseph, whom Arthur helped raise as a loved brother, made sure Arthur was buried in the family plot. It was a testament to Arthur's inclusion in the Sullivant family. It was an example for future generations that love bridges even the deepest of divides.
Presented here as a modern tribute to the Sullivant's expression of love is "Celebration of Life," a sculpture celebrating the family's deed, and enshrined in bronze, a symbol of how all humankind can make this a better world, one child at a time.

Color Me Colorless
Color Me colorless,
I see no color,
Color Me colorless
There's no true color.
I'm as pure as crystal,
The sparkling stars,
The falling rain,
And glittering dew drops
My true color's crystal
clear.
Color's for the simple
Minds.
Color Me colorless,
I see no color,
Feel no color,
I'm crystal clear
for everyone to see.

My grandmother was goodness personified. Never have I met a more patient, honest, giving and selfless human. She never sat still, and all of her efforts were for others - yet, I never heard her complain or say a negative comment about anyone. The only time she spoke of others was, "Oh, isn't she darling?" or "Wasn't he wonderful?"
As a teenager, her father died while on duty for the San Francisco Fire Department. As the eldest sister of seven children, she began working to support her mother and her siblings after her father's death. Her younger brothers and sisters would later speak about how she took them to the theater, restaurants and showed them around their city, San Francisco. She later she worked as an assistant to one of San Francisco's mayors.
Yet, everytime I asked grandma to tell me about the "olden days," she would tell me stories about my mom as a little girl or how my uncle got stuck on the boulder on 19th Avenue as a little kid. The stories were never about her.
Whenever our family gathered around her delicious food on my grandparents' diningroom table, grandma was always interrupted by someone else more boisterous. Her voice would fade off in the distance.
Even as an adult, when I would visit her apartment, after grandpa died, our conversations always revolved around me, my daughter, my sister, my mother...what was on sale at the market or on TV the night before.
So I could only sob at her funeral, while listening to her life unfold through a eulogy, sounding like an unread biography - her teen years growing up in San Francisco's Cow Hollow; her working years and how my suave Irish grandpa swept her off her feet with tales of his little yellow airplane...which never really existed. Yet, he charmed her still.
But those were stories I'd never hear from her. I regret that.

Aku Memahami Kebohongan Pemerintah PKT yang Sebenarnya dan Kasih Tuhan Menarikku Kembali Kepada-Nya (Bagian 1)
Saudara Kemu, Korea Selatan

My dad – truly one of the good guys, and probably the kindest and most selfless person I’ll ever know. I’m lucky to have him as a father.
Here he is on the Oregon Coast near Coos Bay, where his father was raised, on a trip we took for Father’s Day in 2023 to visit cousins who he hadn’t seen in over 50 years, and who I’d never met. The trip was really special and we had a great time traveling together. Some photos from our Oregon adventure are in this album: www.flickr.com/photos/161761575@N03/albums/72177720310130...
