today's FGR: Friday I'm in love
I love my little brother so much.. sure we fight, what brother and sister don't!?! but at the end of the day i would take on all his pain and trade him all my joy if it would mean that he would always be happy...
and a bit of a rave for you all tonight..
tonight i rave for organ donors… for their family’s who through all their pain and suffering are able to see that the death of their loved ones means life for others. It must be an incredible decision full of pain and heartache. My brother was the recipient of a heart valve 14ish years ago, a young man in Tennessee died in a motorcycle accident (from what I remember) and his family donated his organs, one of which my brother received. I am so thankful for them, this thanksgiving and everyday of my life, for helping my brother and being a part of something so large. My brother was one of the first few in the US to have this surgery done and it has been such a success…. so I rave to the man who (I hope) smiles down upon us knowing he gave the gift of life, for his family for making such a selfless decision in a time of despair, for the doctors in Oklahoma City who did such an incredible job, and for the 12 year old boy (dear God, how scary must that have been for him), my brother, who handled it like a champ and is still does while being the pain in the ass I love so much :)

As you rove about in space.
It doesn't take much effort
It's a simple thing to do,
And you'll find when you give kindness
That it comes right back to you!

...how often do we say " you & me " instead of " me & you "...."you" standing here not only for our loved ones but also for people other than "us"....
...how often do we show understanding for other people's problems instead of judging...
...how often are we compassionate towards other people's missfortunes...
...how often do we look inside ourselves and take care of our own imperfections, before pointing the finger to the ones of others...
...how often do we simply stay q u i e t just to l i s t e n....
...too much talking is a defense mechanism against taking responsibility for who we really are, accepting ourselves despite and with our imperfections and being brave enough to actually grow by taking action.
I found the view of these sheep, who moved by their curiosity posed selflessly for the photo, so cut.

Yad Vashem (Hebrew: יָד וַשֵׁם; literally, "a monument and a name") is Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is dedicated to preserving the memory of the dead; honoring Jews who fought against their Nazi German oppressors and Gentiles who selflessly aided Jews in need; and researching the phenomenon of the Holocaust in particular and genocide in general, with the aim of avoiding such events in the future.
Established in 1953, Yad Vashem is on the western slope of Mount Herzl, also known as the Mount of Remembrance, a height in western Jerusalem, 804 meters (2,638 ft) above sea level and adjacent to the Jerusalem Forest. The memorial consists of a 180-dunam (18.0 ha; 44.5-acre) complex containing two types of facilities: some dedicated to the scientific study of the Holocaust and genocide in general, and memorials and museums catering to the needs of the larger public. Among the former there are a research institute with archives, a library, a publishing house, and an educational center, and the International School/Institute for Holocaust Studies; among the latter, the Holocaust History Museum, memorial sites such as the Children's Memorial and the Hall of Remembrance, the Museum of Holocaust Art, sculptures, outdoor commemorative sites such as the Valley of the Communities, and a synagogue.
A core goal of Yad Vashem's founders was to recognize non-Jews who, at personal risk and without a financial or evangelistic motive, chose to save Jews from the ongoing genocide during the Holocaust. Those recognized by Israel as Righteous Among the Nations are honored in a section of Yad Vashem known as the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations.
Yad Vashem is the second-most-visited Israeli tourist site, after the Western Wall, with approximately one million visitors each year. It does not charge any fee for admission.
Into every life a little rain must fall. Good thing I'm a hardcore pluviophile. Rain brings life... rain cleanses... rain makes things grow. I love rain.
I met Hayden in the most unlikely of circumstances...while it was raining. But something new has bloomed...a sisterhood. This lady is one of the most beautiful souls I've been graced to have enter my life. She is strong, clever, artistic and selfless.
As women, the best thing we can do...is support other women. When women support each other, incredible things happen. When you see those women in the rain... dance with them in the puddles.
Profile
Name: Harper Gail Reddick
Hero's name: Armorclad
Age: 37
Bio: Harper's origins are unknown, but she claims have to be born Vermont and has a "conflicted past". Harper has worked as a parachute instructor for various individuals, the Air Force, and has taught people the art of parachuting in lessons. When her young cousin, Wesley, was stricken with bone marrow cancer, she tried her best to get medical supplies, but her own family went bankrupt to due to her relatives losing money after gambling for a lot of times.
Racing against time, she tried to look for a cure, and when she tried to get some dinner for her family, she saw a shipping at the docks which was going to be delivered to Beijing. Harper sneaked to the building and found a box which contained cures for bone marrow cancer. Unfortunately, she was caught stealing by some men. who were working under Hendrix's orders. Harper tried to run away, but caught a power armor and wore it on, activating the stealth mode. She evaded them and went home. Her family, close at Wesley's side, were worried until Harper injected the cure in his neck.
A few weeks later, Wesley was cured, but apparently Harper felt she had a responsibility to take care of her cousin, and along with the suit, she decided to abandon her duty as a parachute instructor, and went on to become a superhero, while looking for the person who was willing to donate his bone marrow for Wesley...
Powers and abilities: None. Probably the only human, powerless superhero in the series/universe. Expert parachute instructor, some martial arts prowess, stealth, knowledge of military equipment. The suit provides super strength, ability to leap towers, night vision, durability, 360 vision, stealth mode, maybe able to fire mini missiles from her shoulders and use weapons from her armor and gauntlets.
Weaknesses: Being overprotective, Wesley dying, her strained relationship with her relatives
Equipment: Black armor, power gauntlets, near-invulnerable helmet, custom built in full body suit and gadgets.
Personality: Strong, courageous, can be strict, selfless, sometimes cold, honest, dedicated.

Located near the entrance to the Flight 93 National Memorial stands the Tower of Voices. There is no other chime structures like the Tower of Voices in the world. The shape and orientation of the tower are designed to optimize air flow through the tower walls. The ninety-three foot tall musical instrument holds forty wind chimes each with a different tone, representing the forty passengers and crew members. Hearing them chime in the wind will hit you in your soul, it makes you feel like the crew and passengers are talking to you.
Flight 93 crashed in Somerset County, Pennsylvania on 9/11/2001. Passengers onboard the United Airlines flight heard about the attacks and 3 planes being crashed into the Pentagon and WTC 1 & 2. They knew their fate and they chose to be the first Americans to take the fight to the terrorist. The passengers and flight crew crashed through the door into the cockpit. During hand to hand fighting Flight 93 became inverted in a almost nose dive and crashed into the rural Pennsylvania field. The selfless act of the crew and passengers saved countless American lives. The first American Heroes of the long fight to come.
Of course, if the world is mine, Katie expects many, MANY more treats and toys. So she's not being entirely selfless here...
Christmas is a giving time. It is the season of selflessness, the joy of an undeserved but eternal gift. The month of miracles.
So why am I being so selfish? Why do I take it as I see around me- brown, dull, looming skies, and not for the feeling that once stirred so much inside me? Why do I look for a sign to see that this season is going my way? It’s as if I have this cookie cutter idea of what I expect the holiday to be, and the actual event is a fraction of an inch different than my expectations, I moan and marvel at how it just doesn’t seem like the way I knew before.
If I step back and assess my actions, it appears I am trying to make the season about me. It’s different for me this year, for various reasons. My schedule’s changed; it doesn’t allow time for gifts or greetings or even, dare I admit it, reflection on the origin of the celebration in the first place. I may have even reshaped my heart a bit, whether conscious of it or not. Somehow, in my twisted, self-absorbed brain, I’ve made it about what I can get from the hustle and bustle. How did I get my worship so warped?
I don’t have snow? It’s likely the first family of faith wasn’t greeted with flurries, either. But a storm stirred inside the manger that night, anyway. The storm of our salvation.
I don’t have time to take a breath? I doubt Mary did through all the months she carried our Savior, past the stares and jeers and endless travel on a donkey as she longed for a place of rest yet not to find it in a foreign land.
I have preconceived notions of the holiday? The first Christmas had no agenda or structure, other than a newborn to sleep quietly and build His soul’s strength before starting the quest to conquer death.
A star appeared. The angels sang. Wisemen journeyed across countries by camel. There’s the sign- God’s divine destiny. It all happened. As planned, according to the Father’s design, smoothly and without worry. And it was the best CHRISTmas ever.
Perhaps I have been too occupied with my to-do list rather than my to-Who list. After all, we wouldn’t even have a holiday to humble ourselves before had it not been for that silent night many years ago.
It’s time for me to slow down. Time for me to reflect and repent, and to fall at the tiny feet of Him who gave me the greatest, most freeing gift of all. The gift that granted me the right to celebrate life- His life, my life, our life- in the first place.
Over the weekend I witness the RNLI being deployed in New Brighton, I couldn't quite see who they were going to help but it was great to see the crowd waiting to catch a glimpse of these everyday heroes! After struggling for 10 minutes to open the lock of the gate I watched in anticipation as the guys came back onto dry land with the growing crowd. These guys really are selfless giving their time for free to put themselves in dangerous situations to help those in need at sea.

"I've seen too many brothers die. I vow to protect and preserve the lives of my brethren, over my own if necessary. At the academy, cadets used to joke that I was too selfless, drawing fire while my squad completed a mission. But, how can anyone be too selfless? We are - after all - clones. Soldiers. Cannon fodder. The pawns of the Republic and proud to be, if I'm going to die I might as well save as many lives as possible in the process.
That is the belief I have instilled in every man who has served with me and under me. Perhaps they were right; perhaps we were foolishly selfless. And perhaps I will get my brothers killed in vain.
Well until that day I vow to be the shield of the Republic. Bulwark squad will defend until it's dying breath."
"Her beauty is not just—or even primarily—physical. In her face, I see her wisdom, her compassion, her courage, her eternal glory. This other beauty, this spiritual beauty—which is the deepest truth of her—sustains me in times of fear and despair, as other truths might sustain a priest enduring martyrdom at the hands of a tyrant. I see nothing blasphemous in equating her grace with the mercy of God, for the one is a reflection of the other. The selfless love that we give to others to the point of being willing to sacrifice our lives for them, is all the proof I need that human beings are not mere animals of self-interest; we carry within us a divine spark, and if we chose to recognize it, our lives have dignity, meaning, hope. In her it is spark is bright, a light that heals rather than wounds me."

Isla and Ikerhu met by chance when Eldurwen and I overlapped our characters' universes five years ago... It began with Isla's secret plan to seduce Ikerhu and follow him back to his home country of Aluzoria where her pursuers wouldn't find her. The seductress whose past self would use men of power to fulfill her goals found herself genuinely falling in love with the gentle and selfless elemental. Ikerhu who became deeply enchanted by Isla's charms found himself falling for her too.

"For Your To-Morrow We Gave Our To-Day"
The statue – symbolizes a new beginning. On top of the base of the statue is engraved “For your to-morrow we gave our to-day”. Engraved on the sides of the base are the names of the 51 Law Society memebers who lost their lives during WWII.
Source: www.calculatedtraveller.com/blog/osgoode-hall-toronto-ont...
In 1939, with the outbreak of the Second World War, members of the legal profession rushed once more to serve their country by enlisting for active service. In total, almost one thousand Ontario lawyers and students-at-law saw active service before the conclusion of the war. Fifty of those selfless soldiers paid the ultimate price.
Although the number of deaths among members of the profession was significantly smaller than it had been during the First World War, the sense of loss felt by the legal community was no less acute.
In 1946, the Law Society established a War Memorial Committee to recommend ways in which to honour those members who had lost their lives during the Second World War. The committee, chaired by W.J. Beaton, asked Colonel Ferdinand Marani, a Toronto architect, to study the matter. Colonel Marani suggested that a memorial be placed in the lower Rotunda of Osgoode Hall and that Cleeve Horne, a leading portrait artist and sculptor, be asked to create it.
Fearing that the Society would want him to take a traditional approach personifying the sorrow and sadness of the war, Horne declined the commission. Earl Smith, the Society's Secretary at that time, won Horne over with his suggestion that he use the words of the poem "For Your To-Morrow We Gave Our To-Day" as his inspiration for the memorial. Inspired by the suggestion, Horne reversed his decision and accepted the commission.
His final concept was that of a woman looking upward to a baby held in her up-stretched arm. The sculpture, Horne felt, symbolized hope for the future through the sacrifice of those who fell.
When the preliminary model was ready for viewing, Secretary Smith became quite concerned that the statue of a naked woman might offend the Treasurer, Gershom Mason, who was a staid and stern man. Attempting to avert disaster, Smith took various small groups of Benchers to view the model. He purposely left Treasurer Mason's visit until the end by which time all the other Benchers had expressed their approval. To Smith's surprise and delight, however, the Treasurer was quite taken with the model and instructed that construction of the memorial should begin as soon as possible.
On October 16, 1951, Major John Foote, who had been decorated with the Victoria Cross and was at the time the provincial Minister of Reform Institutions, unveiled the war memorial.

Catherine Mompesson, wife of William Mompesson, she was aged 27 when she died, Catherine is remembered in Eyam for her selflessness during the 1665-1666 plague. Despite her frail health, she stayed to support the sick and assist her husband. After her death on August 25, 1666, she was buried in the churchyard, an honor reflecting her unique role. Her legacy is preserved through her tomb, annual memorial services like Plague Sunday, and commemorative plaques in the village, symbolizing her courage and sacrifice.
260 Eyam villagers died over the 14 months of the plague out of a total population of 800. 76 families were affected by the plague; many such as the Thorpe family were wiped out completely. However the impact on medical understanding was significant.

A random act of kindness is a purportedly selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual or in some cases even an animal. There will generally be no reason other than to make people smile, or be happier. Either spontaneous or planned in advance, random acts of kindness are encouraged by various communities. An oft-cited example of a random act of kindness is, when paying the toll at a toll booth on a highway, to pay the toll for the vehicle behind you as well.
The phrase "Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty" may have been coined by peace activist Anne Herbert. Herbert says she wrote it on a placemat at a Sausalito restaurant in 1982 or 1983.
A book, Random Acts of Kindness, was released by Conari Press in 1993.
Established in 1995 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation promotes spreading kindness.
The movie Pay It Forward (2000) is largely based on Random Acts of Kindness.
The French film Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001) (Amélie) follows a young woman who engages in various random – and often anonymous – acts of kindness.
NOTE: Please feel free to share a story of some random act of kindness someone did for you.... or vice versa

Lord, You had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of yourself that you had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, You set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, You stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. You didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, You lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.
Lord, I affirm you are strong and mighty, loving, loyal and tender. It took strength and love to be obedient on the cross. Forgive me yet sometimes I am fearful of riducule and get indignant when I am mistreated. Help me to grow to love You more everyday. May you give me the opportunity to spread Your love to all people from all tribes and nation.
In Your name I pray, Amen

Excerpt from Wikipedia:
The Lim Bo Seng Memorial is an octagonal pagoda-like war memorial at Esplanade Park, Singapore. It was erected in 1954 in honour of the late Lim Bo Seng for his heroic acts and selfless sacrifice during the World War II. The war memorial is the only structure in Singapore that commemorates an individual's efforts in World War II and was gazetted as a national monument in 28 December 2010.
The memorial was designed by Ng Keng Siang, the first overseas trained Singaporean architect, it was a 3.6 metres (12 ft) high Chinese National Style architecture of octagonal pagoda-like structure made of marble with a three-tier bronze roof, and the marble and concrete pedestal with four bronze lions stand guard around the memorial. The bronze roof and the bronze lions are imported from Hong Kong. Four bronze plaques imprinted with inscription account of Lim's life in English, Chinese, Tamil and Jawi, were installed around the memorial. The memorial occupied the site which was donated by the government measuring 100 feet (30 m) by 80 feet (24 m).
Major-General Lim Bo Seng was born on 27 April 1909 in Nan-an, Fukien, China. He came to Singapore at the age of 16. After studying at Raffles Institution and Hongkong University, he inherited his father's business in Malaya. Since 1937 he became prominent in anti-Japanese activities. When Singapore fell in 1942, he went to Chungking and on instructions from the Chinese government, he joined the underground resistance section of 136 Force under the Supreme Allied Command, South-East Asia, on 2 November 1943 as Commanding Officer of the Malayan Chinese section. He landed from a submarine at Bagan Bator in Perak to join the British and Chinese officers already working in Malaya, with anti-Japanese forces. Later he left the jungle to work in Ipoh, but he was discovered and arrested by the Japanese Military Police on 27 March 1944. He manfully endured repeated tortures to which he ultimately succumbed on 29 June 1944, at the age of 35. He died in the Batu Fajah prison, a martyr to the cause of a liberated Malaya and to his loyalty to his comrades. On 13 January 1946, he was buried with full military honours in Singapore.
From the underground steel cage fight matches at Silent Sam's, Max prepares for combat!
Magister Maxwell "Max" Tennyson, or Grandpa Max as his grandchildren call him, is the paternal grandfather of Ben and Gwen. He is a slightly overweight man in his late 50's to early 60's, with a keen sense for adventure and a strange taste in exotic food. During the original series, Max takes the kids on a summer road trip across the United States. Max travels in a motor home nicknamed the Rust Bucket, which he has modified with advanced technology.
Max was a semi-retired legendary Magister rank Plumber and is the mentor of Ben, Gwen, Kevin, and the Plumbers' Helpers. Max is widely considered the greatest Plumber in the Milky Way. As of Omniverse, Max quit retirement and joined the Plumbers again, and is currently Magister of Earth.
Personality
An easy-going, kind, and normally jovial man, Max Tennyson often comes across as pleasantly absent-minded at times, but is actually quite perceptive. For instance, he knew early on in Ben's adventures who was most likely pursuing him, as he was aware of Vilgax's history having fought the alien tyrant many times before.
Max is a very brave man, having dedicated his life to preserve peace on Earth between humans and extraterrestrial life. His bravery has resulted in him being injured, having his DNA spliced, nearly killed in several dozen ways, and more. His prioritization of others' safety above his own even when bereft of a weapon shows his selfless nature at its finest.
Ever the consummate strategist, Max is very intelligent, being able to select the correct weapon to battle Zs'Skayr based on minimal information given to him by Ben, choosing a light-based weapon to bring down the rogue Ectonurite.
Though well-meaning, Max is not without a stern side, having struggled to guide Ben during the first few months of his grandson's possession of the Omnitrix. When pushed, Max can be strict, harsh, but not unreasonably so, not being afraid to call people out on their selfishness and mistakes when necessary.
Max has a weird appetite, which comes from his travels both on the Earth and beyond.
Powers and Abilities
Although Max doesn't have any super powers, he is very skilled in combat and can take on anyone who does have them as he is quite athletic for someone of his age. As a retired Plumber, he has access to a variety of various Plumber tools and weaponry, which he uses skillfully. Aside from that, his experience from his Plumber days made him knowledgeable on various species of aliens. He is also able to strategize well and is skilled in inventing new machines. He is telepathically connected to his lover, Verdona.
Before joining the Plumbers, Max was a United States Air Force pilot, with dreams of joining NASA and going to the moon. He was an expert at flying an F-104 Starfighter and was able to shoot down an alien spacecraft.
Weaknesses
Despite being highly trained, Max is far from the prime athletic specimen he was during his days as a Plumber. He is a senior citizen, and has not managed to keep in shape, though he does still possess an incredible tactical mind to compensate for his less than stellar physical conditioning.
Regular Appearances
In the Original Series, Max wore a white shirt, covered by a red buttoned-up Hawaiian shirt with a floral design. He had grey hair and blue pants, as well as brown shoes.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Max's appearance did not change except for his blue pants being changed to brown, he had more wrinkles, a slightly darker shirt, and whiter hair. He wore black shoes.
In Omniverse, Max's appearance has not changed that much except for his brown pants, which are now white. He has whiter hair, more wrinkles, and his eyes have been changed to little black dashes. His white shirt that he wore under his red button up shirt has changed to black. Also, his shoes are now grey at the top and black at the bottom.
Occasional Appearances
In the original series, his pajamas were blue and had yellow lightning streaks.
While in the hospital in The Alliance, he wore a light blue hospital gown, with a cast around his left leg, bandages around his head and a band-aid on his left cheek.
In Dr. Animo and the Mutant Ray, he wore an orange life jacket.
As a Lepidopterran hybrid in the same episode, he had a maggot-like body with green skin and six legs. He had four eye stalks with orange eyes and grey hair.
In Back with a Vengeance, he wore a yellow raincoat while touring Niagara Falls on a ship.
In A Change of Face, he wore a pilgrim outfit.
In Merry Christmas, while cursed as Santa Claus, he wore a red and white robe, a red hat and green gloves.
In Game Over, while inside Sumo Slammers Smackdown, he wore grey armor which covered his left pectoral and lower body. He had brown hair on top and on the sides of his head, along with a brown beard.
In Monster Weather, he wore blue jeans, a brown headband, a brown vest and brown sandals along with his red Hawaiian shirt.
In Under Wraps, he briefly wore a blue bath robe.
In Under Wraps, The Return and Be Afraid of the Dark, he wore a hazmat suit.
As Ultra Grandpa in Perfect Day, he had a stereotypical superhero costume. He wore frameless blue goggles, a cyan shirt and white pants. He also donned a white cape like Ultra Ben.
In Divided We Stand, in addition to his red Hawaiian shirt, he wore brown shorts and brown strap sandals.
In Don't Drink the Water, Max briefly wore a pair of glasses.
After being turned into a 10-year-old in Don't Drink the Water, Max's hair was similar to a crew cut, and rather than fat, he looked skinny and athletic. He initially wore his own clothes, then switched to Ben's clothes.
In Big Fat Alien Wedding, during the wedding ceremony, he wore a black tuxedo.
In Ben 10 vs. the Negative 10: Part 2, he wore a grey exo-suit with blue markings on its visor.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, he sometimes wore a short-sleeved white T-shirt with light brown pants and a green pouch with a sling that hangs on his shoulder.
In a flashback in Ben 10 Returns: Part 2, Max wore his regular shirt as well as dark blue shorts, white socks and brown shoes.
In Max Out, he wore a light brown long coat and a brown hat with a horizontal black stripe, over his regular outfit.
While under the identity of the Wrench, he wore a black T-shirt and light brown pants under a brown robe.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, he occasionally wore a Plumber suit.
In Alien Swarm, Max wore a blue Hawaiian shirt instead of a red one. He wore a brown jacket over this outfit near the end of the movie. In a video recording, he wore a bluish grey vest over a long-sleeved white shirt, as well as blue pants.
As seen in a flashback in Moonstruck, Teen Max had short brown hair. He wore a brown jacket over a red shirt as well as light brown pants. He briefly wore his Air Force uniform.
In a flashback in Of Predators and Prey: Part 2, Max's fishing outfit consisted of a brownish grey hat with a horizontal grey line, as well as baggy brownish grey pants held up by black straps.
In a flashback in Blukic and Driba Go to Area 51, as a young adult, Max had black hair and was scrawny. He wore the same Hawaiian shirt he wears in the present.
In Something Zombozo This Way Comes, as a Zombie Clown, Max had white makeup, red lipstick, a red nose and different hair.

Antakara in Sanskrit means the sun . This painting a portrait of the son of the morning KARNA the duke into battle Kurusetra.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Karna was the son of Surya ( sun god in Hindi mythology ) and Kunti. He was born to Kunti before her marriage with Pandu. Karna was the closest friend of Duryodhana and fought on his behalf against the Pandavas (his brothers) in the famous Kurukshetra war. Karna fought against misfortune throughout his life and kept his word under all circumstances. It is believed that Karna founded the city of Karnal, in present Haryana. Karna is one of the most famous personalities in Hinduism based on the merits they earned by giving charity. He is often quoted for his sacrifice, courage, charity, valour, and selflessness (wikipedia)
He was a man with a phenomenal sense of integrity and generosity but all this was lost. He died in the battle in a bad way.
Existence is not making a judgment about who is good or bad. It is only social situations that try to judge people as good and bad. It is only individual human beings who try to judge you as good and bad. Existence never judges because it is not written anywhere that one thing is good and some other thing is bad. It is just that if you do the right things, the right results happen to you. If you don’t do the right things, the right things do not happen to you. I think that’s perfectly fair. All the Karna fans think it is unfair that he should have been put through so much. I think it’s perfectly fair. Society may not be fair, but the existence is perfectly fair – unless you do the right things, the right things will not happen to you. If existence was not like this, there would be no value for doing the right things or for human intelligence. Nothing that we value in our life would be valuable if you could do wrong things and still the right things happened to you. Life doesn’t work like that. (iSHA- Karna - Hero or Villain ? )

Karna, the heroic villain of Mahabharata
Containing hundreds of characters, lots of events, so many episodes and having a time span of thousands of years Mahabharata, an Indian epic, is the biggest epic in the world. In count of numbers of verses it is seven times bigger than Illiad and Odyssey. By the grace of Indra (Devraj, King of gods) and with his divinely powerful bow Gandib, the hero of Mahabharata is none other than Arjuna. As literature says, when there is a hero there must be a villain. Literally, villain means the main negative character in a play, story, novel etc. who is morally not sound and responsible for causing the trouble or harm for others, particularly the hero or heroine. In that sense there are more villains in Mahabharata viz. Duryodohana, Duswashan, Shakuni (maternal uncle of Duryodhana) etc. but surpassingly all of them represent Karna, the only person that though known as a villain, had heroic characters.
In a war Karna challenged Arjuna but Arjuna declined to fight him on the ground that fight occurs between kings but Karna was none of a royal dynasty. Instantly Duryodhana declared Karna as king of Anga (presently Bhagalpur and Munger district in the state of Bihar in India). Since then, as an outcome of Arjuna’s refusal to fight, Kama nourished a strong hatred for Pandav brothers i.e. five Pandavs.
In war of Kurukshethra, among other heroes in both Pandava and Kaurav side, Karna was unparallel and almost equal to Arjuna. He was a child of Kunti (mother of five Pandavs) by Surya (the sun) before her marriage. So, according to traditional belief Karna is an illegitimate child but in the other way round, he is the eldest of Pandava brothers though just after birth Kunti left him and he was adopted by another couple named Adhirath and Radha. Gradually he was known as a son of Adhiratha, a charioteer. He always made a relentless effort to know his parentage and from where he came. At one stage, before the war of Kurukshetra, when he came to know from Sri Krishna that he was a son of Surya and Kunti, he had a breakdown within himself but his hatred towards the Pandavs and as a mark of loyalty to Duryodhana he thought that his hatred was justified. He is one of the central characters of Mahabharata, a close friend of Duryodhana and a great warrior who was believed to have the power of defeating Arjuna in a war but though he was intelligent he was very unfortunate and unscrupulous.
Since birth Karna had an undecaying bangle and amulet which would protect him from any danger especially in a war. As a mother Kunti knew it very well. Though Karna was her eldest son, she had all the sympathy and affection for her other five sons. Knowing it fully well that so long the amulet and bangle were with him, Karna would be invincible and her sons, i.e. the Pandavas would be defeated in the war. Moreover, she came to know from Sri Krisha that Karna alone was sufficient to destroy the Pandavs. With such an apprehension in mind and with a view to ensure victory of the Pandavas in the imminent war, she went to Karna who was then offering prayers to the evening sun on the bank of holy river, the Ganges (Jahnabi, the other name). We can remember that famous poem Karna Kunti Sangbad by Rabindranath Tagore. Karna could not recognise her mother because he was abandoned by Kunti just after birth. Introducing herself, Kunti requested Karna to leave the Kaurava side and join the Pandavas. Kunti’s purpose of coming became clear to Karna but frustrating her and out of deep sense of gratitude to Duryodhana, Karna declined to be a renegade. Being afraid and thinking of the inevitable result of the war, Kunti prayed for the undecaying amulet and bangle to Karna. Karna could clearly understand the consequences of leaving that amulet and bangle but as it was his nature not to refuse anyone, at that solemn moment of evening prayer, he did not refuse and risking his own life he gave away that amulet and bangle to Kunti. Such was the generosity of Karna. What a great sacrifice at the cost of his life! With this greatness of mind and broadness of heart Karna is very much like a hero but even after reaching such an altitude of greatness, Karna had villain like activities in his life.
When Draupadi was disrobed in the open court in front of hundreds of members of royal family, Karna remained a passive onlooker and enjoyed the humiliation without any protest which, however, tainted his greatness.
Abhimanyu (son of Arjuna) was a boy of only 18 but he was an expert warrior. Karna considered him as moving death. Even Dronacharya (arms teacher of Pandav and Kaurav brothers) thought him as the incarnation of Rudra, the god of war. Karna apprehended that unless killed, Abhimanyu would destroy all of them. He consulted with Dronacharya and others. One day during the war of Kurukshetra, seven very senior warriors of the Kaurav side, under the leadership of Karna, killed Abhimanyu which was against all acknowledged laws and rules of the war. Killing Abhimanyu illegally in war was the most remarkable act of Karna as a villain. He committed mistakes one after another only out of his extreme sense of loyalty to Duryodhana and turned himself into a villain though he had all the qualities of a hero.
Earlier in life, hiding his identity as Kshatriya, Karna learnt the techniques of using arms and the art of warfare from his arms teacher (astraguru) but when his real identity became clear his teacher commented — “during war you will forget all the big and powerful arms which I have taught you” and it happened in the war of Kurukshetra. Once, out of anger, Karna bate a calf of a Brahmin to death simply for the reason that the calf had eaten up flowers of his garden. That Brahmin cursed—“wheels of your chariot would be grabbed in the soil during the time of war”. That also happened most pathetically.
We see that the most sentimental scene of the war of Kuruskhetra (and also of Mahabharata) where Kkarna downfaced, without amulet and bangle, face to face with Arjuna, in futile efforts to pull out the wheels of his chariot from the eternal grab of soil and requesting, “Arjuna, you are a pious man. Please allow me time to pull out the wheels of my chariot”. In reply, Arjuna is saying, “Where was your sense of religion when you killed boy Abhimanyu in an unlawful battle?” And those were the last words of Karna, the great but mean, mighty but miserable and the most complex and unfortunate character in Mahabharata.

To all my Flickr friends, please stay safe and sane during these troubling times... I am fortunate enough to be able to socially distance myself and take a few weeks from work in order to limit risk of exposure. There are health care professionals and many other people working around the clock to keep all of us safe and to try and find a solution to this current pandemic. Please keep those selfless individuals in your thoughts and prayers...
A new found, found object for my Kindness of strangers set
There is something gently wonderful about the selfless act of placing dropped and lost items out of harm's way, in the hope that the owner will return and find them.
In the rich glow of an October sun, one particular plant in my street attracts great comings and goings of fuzzy fairies with their little golden cargo pants stuffed near bursting. From peaches to almonds, from lavender to sunflowers, you’re the trusted messenger of love in Earth's beautiful plant paradise.
Your character is flawless and your work ethic legendary. In the hive, labor is divided; however, I was surprised to learn that each of your sisters progresses through all the various jobs as she matures, beginning with cleaning her own birth cell and ending with the crowning achievement of her career, becoming a foraging field bee until the day she dies. The hive is wise and it almost seems like there is a shared consciousness in control. Selfless valiant guard bees stand ready to defend the hive with a sting that costs them their life.
As winter approaches, hard choices have to be made. Resources are allocated for survival and thus the non-working drones are expelled or killed as the season for their one and only function has passed. Cherished are the true workers who maintain day-to-day living. We humans get confused and sometimes expel our faithful workers into the cold while keeping wasteful drones warm inside. My dear bee, your golden honey is an elixir beyond compare and you make all our lives richer and sweeter. On top of everything, you also sing and dance. I can only begin to recognize how incredibly fantastic you really are!
Be cherished by all!

Lifeboat coxswain William Johnson and his crew lost their lives attempting a brave rescue of fellow mariners in peril off the Fylde coast in 1886.
Their heroic and selfless act is commemorated by this impressive memorial on the seafront at St. Annes.
NOTES :
I deliberately photographed the memorial from a highly dramatic angle to try to draw out more of its power. The sudden arrival of the young gull transformed the composition from frozen monument to living moment.

This is the "Oblation". A symbolic icon found at the entrance to the University of The Philippines symbolizing man's selflessness in offering one's self to country, and created by Filipino artist Gulliermo E. Tolentino. I took a shot of it at sundown which now shows man showing gratitude to the sun for giving life to his surroundings.
Part of the Mount Isa Rodeo since inception and a charter member of Mount Isa South Rotary Club in 1967, Ray Donaldson's passion and selfless service saw him serve as Rodeo Chairman from 1977 until his death in 1984. His stewardship of the Isa Rodeo resulted in major upgrades to facilities at Kalkadoon Park and Carrandotta and he personally sought new sponsors and greatly nurtured existing relationships in order to constantly grow the event. Heavily supported by wife Elaine, Ray's massive commitment meant the Donaldson children thought it perfectly normal to spend every weekend either at Carrandotta Station or playing at Kalkadoon Park where their parents became 'worker bees'. Ray's most lasting legacy was in establishing Bell & Moir Toyota's relationship with the iconic event. More than 50 years later, Ray's company remains a major supporter of the Isa Rodeo and Bell & Moir Toyota's donation of vehicles for the annual art union has raised millions for the local community. Ray's service saw him named a Paul Harris Fellow as was Bell & Moir Toyota, several times over.
