Karl started Karate just before his sixth birthday. In a little over five years he's progressed through 10th Kyu (Blue Belt), 9th Kyu (Orange Belt), 8th Kyu (Red Belt), 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt), 6th Kyu (Green Belt), 5th Kyu (Purple Belt), 4th Kyu (Purple & White Belt), 3rd Kyu (Brown Belt) and has has just successfully achieved 2nd Kyu (Brown & White Belt). I will have to make this my mantra, as I am struggling, truly struggling, to have self control in this situation. Finding out some absolutely mind-blowing news today involving my family, a wrong done against my own flesh and blood, has left me in rare form today. Contemplating things I never have, dreaming of hurting-- something that is very out of my character, but yet, this situation has drawn it up out of the depths of me, the dark parts of me, not the goodness in my depths. But I am still reminded, that it is not up to me to seek revenge, though in my head I still do... So I do hope, that the wrath of God finds them...

The Chariot

When appearing upright, this card stands for = Success, self control, security, focused activity, confidence, knowledge, self direction.

When appearing reversed = Materialism, overconfidence, prejudice, superstition, instability, lack of direction, lacking knowledge.

On Sunday, March 19, 2017 Tigers Shotokan Karate entered a team in the "Karate-Do Federation 4th Open Championship" in Barking, London. This was a significant event; arranged by the English Karate Federation, and was much bigger than many of us had envisaged.

My son, Karl, was a member of the team that travelled to the event from Hertfordshire. I'm guessing, but there must have been at least 400 karateka competing in the championship and the standard was exceptionally high. I am very proud to report that Karl won a Bronze Medal in the category "Kata - Boys: 3rd-2nd Kyu / Age 9 to 12 Years". His elected kata was "Bassai Dai" and he did a sterling job against strong competition.

Unfortunately Karl did not win a medal in the "Kumite" (or freestyle fighting) category, but his tenacity and "Courage, Courtesy and Compassion" in combat made me very proud. He is a credit to St. Columba's College.

Karl was the only participant from St. Albans to come home with a medal, and this is a notable achievement.
