Pretty in Pink - Tulips
Pink tulips symbolise a feeling of happiness, self-confidence and positivity.
Spring, 2023
Tulips are a genus of spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes. The flowers are usually large, showy and brightly coloured, generally red, pink, yellow, or white. They often have a different coloured blotch at the base of the tepals, internally. Because of a degree of variability within the populations, and a long history of cultivation, classification has been complex and controversial. The tulip is a member of the lily family, Liliaceae, along with 14 other genera, where it is most closely related to Amana, Erythronium and Gagea in the tribe Lilieae.

25) Nas – I Can
Trying something a little new, making an abstract for a song for "Working Towards a Better World". I decided to look up the colour "orange" and this is what I found:
Orange
Orange has different tones and shades, each with different color meanings and effects. For example, light pastel peach tones are seen as sweet, conversational, and affable, whereas more intense, vibrant oranges are seen as representative of vitality, energy, and encouragement.
So I have made this work with the idea of it being full of energy and encouragement to our youth, using sound and visual effects. I am very impressed with Nas's song for his daughter and children of her age and I have chosen a complicated abstract work to accompany it, full of vibrant and intense oranges and energy bursting into positive energy creating an upbeat attitude to life, having the ability to believe in oneself, finding inspiration and conquering the battles our children face day to day, I hope that I have succeeded?
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

HAPPY SLIDERS SUNDAY !!
Sliding - I slid heavily to bring out the texture in thIs stucco wall.
PLUS I turned it from boring white to a shiny light blue to
attract your attention.
If you are reading, I succeeded.😋
MY "IMessAGE":
I think weed seeds have more hubris (self confidence) than almost any other living thing.
They will give life a go in what appear to be extremely unpromising places.
For example, as here - "up against the wall" -- our stock phrase to express desperation.
LIfe's fundamental goal is to reproduce itself.
This weed seed (or maybe it's TWO !!) has rapidly grown improbably tall and put forth flowers.
Seeds will follow.
If we see the fundamental goal as a priority, we would all seek to live lives--in our own
time scales--that are as quickly successful as these one or two weeds. Note that they are
also setting an example for a tiny adjacent late-bloomer! 😋
Location: A quiet side street, Dorfkern (village center) Riehen BS Switzerland.

I have always had issues with self esteem - hating this about this and that about that. I am working on that. However, I want to make sure my daughter never has this problem.
I hope to teach my daughter to love herself. To love her little birthmark on her hand, her little dimple in her chin & especially love her wavy hair!! That is my job to help her love herself & I am trying my hardest to succeed!

Training in the art of Krav Maga, self-defense is taught along with discipline. It helps teach self-confidence and camaraderie via this self-defense martial art class. Both of our grand-daughters are in this training program and apparently greatly enjoy it. They get a lot of aerobic exercise during their sessions.

Netherlands, Amsterdam. On Queen's Day ("koninginnedag") everybody can earn a buck. Young and old, human and animal. The Amsterdam people have a "garage sale" along the canals. Children show off their talents behind a hat for the profits.
An example of the latter is this boy playing guitar. He played Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water and some other famous rock riffs. Despite his limited repertoire, he played them convincingly and flawless.
What struck me most though, was his consistent uninterested and disgruntled look. He seemed totally ready for rock star fame and fortune.
From 2 snapshots made at Isla Okkido created by Liara Okkido (closed now).
Everytime i do a snapshot of a stunning spot, specially now that i have a better computer that can render shadows and materials, i feel that i can't post it because its not mine. The credit goes to the creator of the place, not to me. Of course i have chose the angle, the windlight setting but this isnt enough to satisfy me. Before, when i was with my laptop, i still had to draw every shadows and create lightings and relief effects by myself; but now my computer does this by itself and i somewhat find it a bit frustrating.
Thus i need to go forward, i need to make the pic my own, i need to put pieces of me inside them more than a photography could let me do.
Isla Okkido was so breathtaking and perfect that it is hard for me to find something to add to my photos from there.
I will probably keep most of them on my hardrive and use them inside other pictures. It may seem weird for some of you, but if i post them like that, i feel i am stealing a credit who belong to Liara herself, the creator of the sim.
I am happy i could nevertheless add my touch to this picture. I merged the main photo view with another of another part of the same place thru a stainglass.
I added several effects to increase the focus on the arch and to finish i added the same setting preset i created for the pics i made of the second FFL fashion show with the tilt shift effect.
And now i can fully feel this photo as my creation :))
And i should add, that weirdly i almost never feel like this for pics made by other ppl... that even doesnt comes to my mind.. but for my pics that's an obsession. go figure.... maybe a lack of selfconfidence. i dont know.
I was invited to take photos at a fundraising event in San Francisco. Many burners showed up at Monarch Gardens for the fundraiser of Treble Makers, a Burning Man camp.

I hereby officially conclude my first round of photographs of 100 Strangers!
Meet Katherine, my 100/100 strangers. We met in Albuquerque on a Saturday morning outside the Centennial Engineering Center on the campus of University of New Mexico (UNM). Katherine was facilitating event logistics for participants in the MATHCOUNTS® NM State Chapter tournament for middle schoolers who compete individually and as part of a team.
I dropped off my mathlete with his teammates and then had time to fill. The UNM campus was devoid of people because it was spring break. It was easy to spot Katherine standing outside a nearby building; it turned out to be the location of the MATHCOUNTS Countdown Round for later that morning. I observed her using her mobile phone. After ending the call, she did not leave her waiting place.
Opportunistically, I approached her. Katherine was indeed meeting a custodian to unlock the building door. She had several minutes to spare and was an easy enlistment.
We were in an area with open shade. I made several fruitless attempts to direct light on her using a light reflector, and even had her hold the light modifier. Eventually, I set it aside and we continued on while she sat patiently for the photographs.
During this project I encountered numerous subjects wearing eyeglasses. Many individuals removed them at my gentle suggestion. Katherine was disinclined to take them off, which gave an extra challenge of avoiding undesirable reflections and haze on her lenses. I moved myself around her to find a better position with diminished lens glare. In Photoshop post-processing, I created a “lenses only” layer, and tweaked the light levels to remove the majority of the unavoidable reflections. Our strangers present and we have to sort it out.
We spoke for a few minutes. Katherine was born in Dallas, TX, surrounded by her mother’s family. Her father, born and raised in New Mexico, decided to raise his children in his home state; they moved west.
“Long ago, I was interested in Mechanical Engineering. I didn’t do well enough in math. I was much better at writing and communications and found my way to science writing. That’s how I got to be part of science. Now, I work at the School of Engineering at UNM. I coordinate community outreach to middle and high school-aged students to get them interested in STEM learning. We want to show them possibilities and excite them about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Events like today’s MATHCOUNTS serve as a portal for these young people. At least that's the hope.”
I asked if there was anything she wanted viewers of her portrait to think about when looking at her. Katherine paused thoughtfully. After a few moments she said the following, which I captured verbatim:
"Dream. I remember a painful time of my own life, from way back as a child. Some adult told me, 'Your problem is that you dream too big.' Don't let anybody tell you that. I was only a child, but I knew there was something wrong with that. This applies to any aspect of life. Just follow those big dreams and don't let anyone tear them down."
In this shot of Katherine, her head is tilted slightly upwards at my camera. The subtlety of her posture conveys her message of encouragement and self-confidence.
I thanked her for the important job she was doing: influencing and encouraging young minds to pursue STEM education. It was a pleasant, meaningful encounter. A few days later, I emailed to her a high resolution file that she could print as an 8x10 or share with her friends and family.
My now complete catalogue of 100 Strangers is here.
Project participants share their 100 strangers in the group pool here.
This is my 28th submission to the Human Family Group, an ongoing Flickr project for photographers who enjoy meeting and photographing strangers, any time, any place, with explicit permission, and a Joie de vivre.
--
Thank you to all the generous human beings who participated as my subjects for this personal project. Thank you to everyone who followed or dropped in to experience my journey. A special thank you to all who offered me critique and constructive feedback, submission commentaries, private and public words of encouragement and even some favorites along the way.
I joined 100 Strangers to challenge myself to build photographic confidence, act with expeditiousness with my equipment and apply learned technique in my efforts. The end result of having photographed 100 Strangers means that I actually experienced the humor and humility of many more interactions with strangers than the aggregate in my catalogue.
In addition to my photographic growth, the project succeeded at humanizing the world and allowed me to recognize and value individuals. Photographing strangers brings people into close contact that otherwise may have no other impetus for doing so. I endeavored to reveal and acknowledge the strangers and render them with insights into what lies beneath their surface.
100 Strangers may be daunting for some, but I enjoyed and welcomed the unexpected. I proved to myself that I can maneuver my equipment quickly and effectively so I do not miss a perfect moment. This project has influenced how I see, what I look for, when I decide to make my shot, and how to manage and edit images after I click the shutter. This has been a very fulfilling experience. It feels good to cross this finish line.
