H2S, H2Se, and AsH3 contaminants adsorbing on a metal oxide surface, Zn2TiO4(010). Sulfur atoms are yellow, selenium orange, arsenic purple, hydrogen white, oxygen red, titanium silver, and zinc atoms are blue.

First roll of film through my Olympus Pen EES camera. The Olympus Pen EES was a half frame camera built between 1962-1966. The EES was the Pen EE with a focusing lens. It had a 30mm f2.8-22 focusing lens with three focus-indents for near, far, and intermediate distances. Shutter of 1/40 or 1/200 with f-stop selected by the selenium meter at 1/200. F-stop can be set manually with the shutter speed at 1/40. No flash shoe only a PC connector. As with the earlier models, the slow shutter speed setting occurs when the film speed/aperture dial is set to an aperture setting. When the same dial is set to a film speed setting, the shutter is set to 1/200 and the f-stop is set by the meter. So, the camera can be used in low-light situations by setting the dial to the aperture settings - with or without a flash. Film speeds from 10-200ASA. Close focusing to 3 feet. The camera could use 22.5mm filters over the lens or 43.5mm filters over the lens and meter.
I was reading an article about the importance of selenium and knew NZ soils have a low concentration of this vital trace element. Then, coincidentally, saw that kidneys contain selenium and this is what I'm having for dinner tonight. Devilled kidneys

My first attempt at toning with selenium
It just goes to show what you lose when you scan a print. Three identical prints from the same neg with (L-R), no toning, selenium 1+9 for 1.5 mins, selenium 1+9 for 2.5 mins. There's a definite deepening of the darker tones across the three, but a lot of the subtlety is lost.
All on Ilford multigrade warmtone RC paper using Ilford warmtone dev.
Added selenium tone in Lightroom; I think I'm starting to like this one more than the original; post up if you have an opinion :)
A nice ragged old set of shutters i spotted whilst i was in Venice. I took this with
Edward Weston's Potato Cellar Shot in mind as well as my AS Level Photography Project, looking at texture in architecture. Made B&W in Lightroom, Dodged, Burned and added a Cooling Filter (LBB) to get a Selenium tone feel in Photoshop CS4
When the production designers of the Harry Potter movies went looking, in the C-3 ("MatchMatic" sub-model with two-tone finish and EV reading selenium meter attaching to the shoe) they found the melding of the medieval with the electro-mechanical. I like mine in basic black.
Ilford Warmtone in Berg Selenium from Ilford Delta 100 in Canon 100mm f/2.8, downtown Guelph.
I wish the digital camera could properly capture the selenium tones but you have to see this one in person. It is 11x14" so too big for my flatbed scanner though perhaps I'll try scanning a portion to see if it can pick up the subtle color.
